For next year's draft. Lot's of players being showcased in pre-season. I just can't see Lance being very successful in anything but a RPO-centric offense. His accuracy/touch is very sub-par for a pro QB.
I agree but the tough part he isn’t under contract for next year.

True. Maybe there will arise a need during this year. If this scenario is indeed the case, then indeed JJ is taking quite a gamble. That type of QB is more vulnerable to injury, and there are a few teams that play with it. At the end of the day - we're all clueless why JJ traded for him. Then again, I'm still upset at JJ/JJohnson for drafting Steve Walsh on the hills of the Aikman pick. lol

This hypothetical is more complicated than meets the eye. We currently have no QBs under contract to play next season. So, if Dak goes down for the season early enough where you're not going with Rush solely bc he has more experience....

Who do you want to play knowing that your simultaneously showcasing them to the league and you have no advantage signing him?

Keep in mind that on the QB salary list it jumps from rookie deals to 25mil for Geno, 33mil for Baker and 37.5mil for Carr.

Neither Dak or Rush is a legit #1. Trey at least has potential.
Yeah, the guy who is consistently ranked in the top 10 at his position by analysts and players and was second in the MVP race last year isn't a legit #1. But the guy in his fourth year who is fighting for the backup spot with a career backup who was traded for a fourth-round pick for a team who just gave up THREE FIRST ROUND PICKS two seasons prior to draft him "has potential". At this point you guys are either trolling or are so..... challenged.... that you shouldn't be allowed to operate a motor vehicle for the safety of yourselves and others.

You are completely lost if you don’t think Dak is a legit #1 QB. You’re just being ridiculous! You’re starting to remind me of leeblair.
Don't bother. Some folks are willfully ignorant/dumb.

He beat the Jets and Carolina who were ranked in the top 5 in total defense in 2023. He beat New England who was ranked 7th in total defense in 2023. If your goal is to not be taken seriously, you’ve accomplished it.
Relax. I know this is going to be a difficult time for you, but you'll pull through okay.

So was Dak early
I remember Dak embarrassing himself in a tv throwing contest
Then he started the hip swivel ....he danced toward better stats.

Didn’t help glazed over eyes in playoffs though

"In summary, Dak is like rereading a book with a bad ending for the 5th time. Sometimes you just want a new book, even if it has worse reviews, maybe it’ll have a surprise ending"

Man what does this say about your theory this FO will put talent around a QB if he got payed less... you read Dak's book but not this FO's 30 year book?.. This theory to me is more ridiculous than any theory out there...."I know this FO cant win with Daks play but if they get worse QB play THEN they would build a team around it."...WHAT???... Dak and Romo had years they were cap hit cheap...remind me of the teams this FO built around it please...
You’re not gonna change the casino man, but you can switch to another slot machine when yours isn’t paying out.

what potential? everyone keeps talking about this potential, but no one has yet seen anything. most want to give him playing time for the next 5 years to find out.

A board like this exposes those fans. It’s amazing how many are so out of touch with reality. One fan here honestly believes the Super Bowl was rigged in favor of KC because of Taylor Swift.

Why would he get cut when his contract is guaranteed?
There are couple of members here who believes he will likely be cut if Dak is resigned.
I didn't understand why Dak's contract situation would dictate whether Lance stays or goes.
.
Full-disclosure: I'm not very privy to any contract situation except Dak's........mainly because I don't care that much. :)

We’ll be paying 50 million for QB next season one way or another. But if Lance can develop enough to start within the year, it would pay off massively in 2026. Instead of paying 60-70 million to Dak, we’d probably have a cap hit under 30 million at QB.
How is going to develop enough in preseason game 3?

Then he is off to the bench until next season.

Does that really sound like development? At that point it will be 6 years removed from his last significant playing time - 1 year in college.

but if Dak should get hurt Lance should be the #2. It would help to see how he manages a game. I can't (or won't) imagine a scenario where you give up on a 4th round pick after 2 years, which Lance essentially is.
This would have to come directly from the top. Why would the coach care that he's a 4th round pick, he's going to play the QB he feels gives them the best chance to win.

MM playing on a 1 year contract is going to play who he believes will win games period.

If GM Jethro wants to extend him mid season, then start Trance, I could see that happening.

If the future is Trance, why would GM Jethro want to start all over again with a new OC. Trance needs as much consistency as possible.

I watched both pre-season games and left both scratching my head about Lance's inaccuracy at his level. NFL defenses are going to chew him up. I just can not imagine his accuracy or touch is going to improve much. I don't buy the "it's a lack of game time or practice" excuse, come'on man, the guy has been playing football for how many years and the throwing skill should be polished by now. Other than being another RPO-driven product, not sure what the scouts see. If Dallas was interested in that type of offense, maybe he could succeed. I still believe he was acquired as future trade bait. JJ might feel he can pull off a 4th for a 1st for a 2nd round pick deal at the end of this.
How do you get 150 yards and zero interceptions with incredible inaccuracy?
