Tried that in our Mel Kiper Mock......Nobody wanted to trade up. Cowboys are in a tough spot. But if push comes to shove and Gurley and Gordon are gone....can't trade.....I don't have a problem w/ them taking the J-train in round 1.

It would be one of those picks that the masses would hate at first but by the end of the season think " Wow, that was a pretty good pick by the FO."

I'm not sure. He has been all over the place in rankings and mocks. Running backs have been so devalued recently that I could see him falling to the third. Kiper has him all the way down into the fourth or fifth, which I certainly do not see happening. I see him anywhere from the mid to late second or all the way into the third.

I think he might have moved up after combine especially if Boys really like him.

Rotoworld
Jay Ajayi - RB - Broncos
Boise State RB Jay Ajayi posted 4.57 and 4.62 forty-yard times at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Believe it or not, the 6-foot, 221-pound Ajayi was amongst the forty leaders in the running back group. The tough runner added 19 reps on the bench. A home run threat as a runner and receiver who plays with an edge, Ajayi told the media he patterns his game after Demarco Murray. Interestingly, he has met with the Cowboys and could potentially be Murray's replacement. It will probably take a second-round pick to secure Ajayi's services.

An NFL scout said Boise State RB Jay Ajayi is a "big back with very good speed."

The 6-foot, 221-pound Ajayi posted 4.57 and 4.62 forty-yard times at the NFL Scouting Combine, marks that were actually above average for the running back position this year. "Really came on at the end of the year," the scout told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "He's just a guy that runs hard. Very physical." Ajayi patterns his game after Demarco Murray.

Yeah. I could see him going anywhere in the first three rounds. I would love to see the Cowboys pick him up in any of those rounds. If they do pick him up early, I hope they address the defense with a couple of solid free agency pickups. That would free them to grab Ajayi without having to worry too much about the defense early in the draft.

He'd be the RB equivalent of picking Frederick imo.

If he's truly gone, then thanks DM for the ride....good luck and no ill feelings for wanting to take care of your family.
Having dispensed with that..........Let's move on!

I don't think Murray has any offer that he accepted, what I think happened is his agent and Jones just couldn't come to an agreement on a contract and now he's going to be heading into FA and accepting the highest offer.

And no, you don't delete every picture of you being with your team just because you became an FA. He's gone, fellas.

I hope JJ doesnt rely on just the draft........

Maybe they really do think "anybody" can replace him, or a platoon of backs will be okay. The Pats did it....? I hate to see DM go. But money is money and I wish him luck.

Im in the Spiller crowd for just that reason. You get an elite performer, but not one you can grind, you still want to get a guy round 2-5 who can log a good 150 carries. If we draft, say Ajayi in the 2nd, money wise your still paying less then you would for Murray, and thats top end. In this class, you can probably find a highly effective compliment to Spiller in the 4th or 5th

I think Murray to Jacksonville would be a good situation for both. Murray will get the closest to the top end of his value, and his presence will go a long way to taking some pressure off of some of the young talent at the skill positions they have. He will make life alot easier for Bortles, Robinson, Hurns and Lee. Ive heard they are gonna make a run at Bulaga as well.

I dont think he will play on a legit contender while in Jacksonville, but I think that team can be in playoff contention in 2016

Sorry to see him go. I think it's a big mistake. Now we have to go out and find a workhorse RB. That is unless we want to go back to our 8-8 seasons. Thanks for the memories DeMarco. I appreciate everything you did here in Dallas.

Reposting:
Rotoworld had a good analysis of DM:
8. Running back DeMarco Murray -- Murray amassed 436 rushing attempts in Dallas last year, and 497 touches overall. His slowdown over the course of the season was evident both in the box score on tape, as Murray's burst was lacking down the stretch and he managed a 3.93 YPC over the final five games after averaging 5.07 in the initial 11.

Another reason not to overpay imo. There is a reason for his lack of offers and I think most teams give a lot of credit to the OL.

If Murray is indeed gone, and I don't assume he is just because of pictures on his Twitter account, I definitely don't think we need to panic. Murray was a third round RB for a reason. We do not and most likely won't use our #1 pick on the position. We don't need the best RB in the draft; there is great depth at the position. We still need defense big time.

If we go RB in free agency, I think it will be to release Randal. We signed Williams to a nice contract from the practice squad, so clearly we liked what we saw and planned to have him on the roster this year all along. For those who ask why he wasn't on the roster at some point last year, no matter how great he looked in practice, there was no reason to make any roster changes when Murray was having a career year.

What will be curious is to see if we go for another power back to chew up yards or a speedier, shifter guy who can break off more scores....do we value the clock management more, or do we think we can improve the defences enough to value the points more?

Personally, I think we will go for a speedier, HR back. I wouldn't mind seeing CJ Spiller or a draft choice paired with Williams to compete for the starting position, but use a pounder and a big play guy.....but all of this falls under the "IF" Murray is actually gone.

You do if your agent says its a good ploy to jolt the Cowboys.

If he's gone, he's gone. Bye.
He had 1 great season for us. He'll have zero for the Jags. Picking Money over contending for a title. Hope it's worth it to him. We'll keep moving forward without him.

If we were afraid Murray would go elsewhere, we would have got a deal done by now. They're not falling for any tricks, this is Murray and his agent getting ready for FA because no terms were met with the Cowboys.

Good luck to Murray.
