Not sure if 3/9 is the going rate for AP in free agency. We'll see though. I just think the Cowboys aren't in a rush obviously to offer Murray big money, and I don't think anything will change that.

The only way AP is a free agent is if he is acquitted of the charges against him. In that case, he isn't signing for 3m a year. People are just being ridiculous. He'd probably command that if convicted of the charges, did a short jail term and didn't receive add'l suspension from the league.

Thats a good starting point for a negotiations. You start low and work your way high. Hence the word STARTING. Because Murray can always come back with a counteroffer on what he believe his worth.

What I know is that the Cowboys do feel they want to sign him asap. Why do you think they're doing this now rather than waiting till the season is over?

He needs to take it and be happy before getting injured.

He'll get his chance to ease off the gas again after getting paid.

Take it or walk...

I like the one on our PS a little too. I wonder what kind of results he could be having with his speed and this OL.

He won't last on the PS all year. Eventually someone else will sign him (unless we have a RB injury)

I think its a good offer

If it's true, then it's actually an insulting offer. I think even his biggest detractors would've jumped at the idea of signing him to a 4 year $16 million dollar. Given that he's the leading rusher through 5 weeks, and he's clearly worth more now, than he was at the beginning of the season, it's an insulting offer.

Based on what other backs have gotten the last couple years that's not a ridiculous offer.

They are thinking of a significant hometown discount plus potentially the desire to win a Super Bowl.

AP may have been a free agent even before this all came out. He costs the Vikings entirely too much money at this point. I think there is a number in between that is more likely.

I don't think AP is looking at jail time either. At worst he is looking at probation and counseling.

Basically the only way I see him being cheap...and that only happens if he gets convicted. Personally I don't want him on the team period, because there is no doubt in my mind that what he did is child abuse.

Murray is not worth a huge contract. If he does not like it, he can walk.

Dez is more important. We can get just about any RB to come in here and run behind this OL.

I'm in the area he's charged. He's likely to get probation, might even make a deal for it because of the pics. Rusty Hardin is his lawyer. The other accusations in other states is another matter if he gets charged again.

4 years/$4.5M is what I was looking at as realistic when the season started. He's outplayed that number now, and would be crazy to not at the very least test the market before making a decision if we're not willing to get up into the $6M neighborhood now. And we won't (and shouldn't) do that.

That said, people really are fooling themselves if they think 'just about any back' can do what Murray does. The fact is, most of them can't, and we'd be hard-pressed to find a guy who's 75% as good on passing downs as Demarco for next year. Most of the options we're going to entertain will be top-3 round rookies, and pass pro is the primary thing they're going to have to learn coming into the league. We're going to take a step back at RB if Demarco walks.

And *that* said, at more than $4.5/4 with some incentives added on, I let him walk and make-do managing it by committee for a season or two. We do have RB depth, and we do have a great system for a runner to flourish in. We should use it, because we need the money to address a defense that still has significant personnel limitations.

wouldn't offer him anymore than a four years 16-18mil, running backs are a dime a dozen, Norm on the ticket had a great breakdown on running backs that carry a huge load in one year and what happens to their production in the next couple of years after, huge drop off........as was seen with Barber....I'd rather the cowboys franchise him for a year and then let him walk..
