Shanahan has taught us that the offensive line is more important than the running back. RBC, we could probably simulate Murray's production pretty easily.

It would probably take like three ok backs to replace Murray's production a good line is awesome to have on it's own but coupling a top five back with a top five line cannot be easily replicated.

It's incredible how far running backs have fallen. To give you some perspective, Dallas gave Dan Bailey a 7 year 22 million dollar deal, for a kicker. I know he is amazing but it's mind boggling to think his contract earns him under a million dollars per year less on average to the one offered to Murray, now considered a top 5 rb in the NFL.

The market is the market though. Why do you think MINN and BAL were so quick to suspend and cut Peterson and Rice? They represented the old scale and are overpriced. The NFL is paying QBs, WRs, LTs and some CBs. Nobody really wanted to pay Revis big bucks and DEs are getting less. RB is one position that has completely bottomed out. FAs are getting 3-4m a year and the first RB drafted isn't until the 2nd or 3rd round.

Murray is a true 3 down back and can be a work horse, but teams are not paying for RBs period. Especially one with injury and fumbling questions. If Dallas offers 4-5m a year, he should jump on it, especially with this OL.

The backlash from off the field issues forced the hand of the Vikings remember they were about to let AP play. Same could be argued for Rice although he is coming off a lackluster season so maybe he just wasn't worth the PR headache. I'm not suggesting paying him what AP got, I don't even think that'll be necessary to keep him. What I know is the window is small for this core group of guys and I figure given that Murray hasn't seen all the much milage (when you compare him to some of the top backs in the league that are fading now or are retired at the same age) we can get a good four years out of Murray and get top 5 production with him behind this O-line for the next four seasons. Up to this season Murray had only 542 carries to his credit that's nothing when you compare him to backs like Frank Gore, AP or Steven Jackson. This guy has way too much left in the tank to even think about letting go. Cowboys need to take this guys into a second contract and after that I wouldn't have any problem with trying to find another back. At this point this team can't afford to regress at that RB and going back to RB by committee is doing just that.

Because they know they're not going to sign him, and so preserving him for the future isn't a top priority?

Wow, that is a bit low offer to Murray, and if it is a firm offer.......then it may be that JJ has another option, i.e. Peterson may be on his way to Big D next year. Would not be shocked if the Vikings washed their hands of AP after this year, either trade or just cut. Hope we can keep Murray somehow, but if he prices himself out, then so be it.

Even if they have no plans of signing him, it would be incredibly short sighted to wear down a player who is big part of the team winning this season.

If the coaching staff thought that there wasn't a significant drop off from Randal/Dunbar to Murray, they would be getting more snaps than what they have been getting so far this season.

If it's true, then it's actually an insulting offer. I think even his biggest detractors would've jumped at the idea of signing him to a 4 year $16 million dollar. Given that he's the leading rusher through 5 weeks, and he's clearly worth more now, than he was at the beginning of the season, it's an insulting offer.

I love me some Murray and I think he should be paid more. However, I don't find it insulting. If Murray is insulted by this than thats his choice. I honestly would feel honored that a team that has an amazing oline with a pretty good QB has given me an offer this early in the season. That means that they like me and find me valuable to the team. Of course, Im not Murray, but I would feel that way.

Murray may be carrying the bacon, but he isn't going to do this behind most other OLs. I think the offer will go up, but I don't have an issue with it. He won't have this success elsewhere and should want to stay here above all. $4 million per year is nothing to sneeze at. It's 16 times more than Roger Staubach ever made here for a season and look what he turned his salary into.

Unless Murray goes to Seattle if they dont decide to keep Lynch. Yep. General principle: never resent a man for offering you an opportunity. Even if you decline it. If that opportunity comes with a $16M payout, and you resent it, well, there's a special word for that kind of guy, and it's not 'teammate.'

Even if Murray signs for 4 years at $20 mil, that's still not close to what Barber got.

I've said it before, let the year play out and let FA set his value and then decide if you want to match it

RBs with these many carries fall off a cliff in terms of production and he has an injury history

I'm afraid the Cowboys offer, as fair as it may be, won't be quite enough to fully satisfy DeMarco and his agent, otherwise, they would very likely have accepted their offer by now. Some other team will likely better that proposal and it remains to be seen if the Cowboys FO might be amenable to topping it. This thing seems likely to linger for awhile before anything is agreed upon, either by us or some other team. It's not like we didn't see it coming.

FB is one of those positions where you don't realize he's not doing his job well until he misses his assignment and one of your best players gets knocked into next week.

Regardless on if he's doing his job, not doing his job, the Cowboys aren't going to devote 5 spots on a 53 man roster to 4 RB's and 1 FB.

It's about 4 to 5-mil cheap. Maybe Jerry is factoring in subtracting a million for each fumble?

The Cowboys have options. They do not have to rely solely upon Murray. We already know the Vikings are going to let Peterson go, and we also already know he wants to come here. If the Cowboys can get him for the same price range they are offering Murray they might let him go test Free Agency and the bigger contract.

I like Murray, especially given how he is playing now. Makes me giggle when I think of the people who were against us when we drafted him. I just feel RB is the easiest position to find a replacement for. Sometimes not as good, sometimes, better. I would prefer it be him, and I wouldn't be at all shocked if we franchised him so he can't leave. I've already heard rumors of a college RB that we like a lot.

The Cowboys do not need to break the bank. I don't blame Murray for rejecting the offer and wanting more, but if he wants too much, I'd either use the Franchise Tag or let him go, gain a compensatory pick for him, sign Peterson to a short term deal, and draft the kid we supposedly like.
