Murray the Fumbler; What would Jimmy do?

To me " the fumble" was more of a strip by several Commanders players attacking the ball. They knew they had him stopped.

If Murray could have that play over again he probably would have dropped to the ground instead of fighting, or run out of bounds earlier.

If any former Cowboys players could give Murray some RB advice it should be Tony Dorsett, or Emmitt to advise him " enough is enough" especially when its a long gainer.

Of all the fumbles, I don't blame him for that one. He WANTED the endzone. He knew we needed it last night.

He gets a pass on that one. Now, fix it.

Really? Out of all his fumbles this year, this is the one I blame him for the most. It's his second time coughing it up in the red zone fighting for an unattainable yard. He goes down there, we almost certainly get 6.

Murray doesn't have a fumbling problem. He said so himself.

I don't give him a pass because his effort allowed the fumble to happen. Understanding when to give up on a play has to be a part of every carry for Murray. We've seen it before and now we see it again. Multiple defensive players are tackling him but he refuses to give up thinking one more extra yard is going to make a difference. It won't and leads to fumbles. There was no way Murray was going to score and it's on him to realize and understand that means he needs to go down and live for another play.

This is what Emmitt posted after the fumble..

Yeah, he thought he was spinning to dive towards end zone.

I hear you. I wanted it too. He is not why we lost.

With game hanging in the balance till the very end. Poor coaches play calling and Romo lost it.

Lot of this game goes to coaches bad play calls. Skins were taking away pass and then you gash them with run.

I give him Kudos for fighting for the extra yards and I don't think you can un-train a guy's effort. Do like Coughlin and change his ball handling mechanics.

Ask Curvin Richards. Let go the week before Super Bowl because he fumbled.

This isn't accurate.

First off Richards was the back up. No one cares what Jimmy did to the back up of Emmitt Smith.

Secondly it wasn't the week before the Superbowl it was after the final regular season game because he fumbled twice in mop up duty against the Bears and allowed the score to wind up 27-14 in a game that Dallas was killing Chicago 27-0.

But make no mistake that isn't even close to the same situation. Jimmy cut a back up running back, heading into the playoffs, that wasn't going to see any meaningful touches anyway unless Smith got hurt, and if Smith got hurt Dallas wasn't going to do much anyway.

A 2000 yard rusher who fumbles 10 times is worth no more than a 1000 yard rusher IMHO.

He has to clean that up.
I would MUCH rather him be steady. Maybe get 1400 yards...and protect the football. I am going from thread to thread warning everyone that the egoes in Dallas are starting come out. And we still have half a season to go. There is a race for people to receive the most credit for the Cowboys resurgance. And that kind of culture starts at the TOP. Jerry donning headsets during the middle of a ACTUAL LIVE NFL GAME! Romo inserting himself back into a game. Murray handing out gifts with 10 games left in a season. Murray fighting for an extra INCH..and losing the ball! The OL eating the cheese. And Tyron Smith has not been as dominant as some would be led to believe. He is no doubt great...and will get better. But he is not the Great Wall of China. And this OL has been top 5...but it has had some bad moments. Garrett needs to settle this team down(not sure what he can do about the owner). Make sure they understand that their is half a season to go. With a brutal stretch of road games in December. THEN...THEN...if we make the playoffs. There will be ANOTHER season. So put the annointing oil away...and stay focused on the task at hand. We have won NOTHING to this point. I am not interested in DeMarco Murray breaking Eric Dickersons record. Especially if it means 5 - 6 more fumbles this year...and him having legs of Jello by week 17. This team needs to pump the brakes. I live in DC. That was NOT a good team we lost to last night. Especially going against a 3rd string QB!

the legend of jimmy is a bit of peoples imagination. jimmy never cut a star player and he did'nt bench a star player
lets put these fumbles into perspective. murray has fumbled once every 46 touches. i hate fumbles but that pace if not all that bad when you look at the production thats went with it. the main thing is he needs to learn when to give up and keep concentrating on the ball

No one likes fumbles.

The guy is on a record pace.

The guy is why we are 6-2. If we let him run last night we are 7-1.

Jimmy would fix it before we sit him or not resign.

Get real people.

Agree with you for the most part but he doesn't get a pass on it.

You have to know when you're simply not going to get anymore.

He didn't need to force the issue. It was going to be first down deep in the Commanders territory.

Go down and live to fight another play.

Yeah, they have been trying that already...

Makes me wonder for how long, how consistent they've been with it, etc.

If he just can't get it, he's killing his won stock. Coming off what appears as if it will be a 400+ touch season, with what may end up being double digit fumbles lost, there's no way this guy 6 years for $96M, or anything remotely close to it. Even 5 for $40M will sound like too much.

Nothing personal... but count me as one who doesn't care what Jimmy would do. I only care about what Jason will do and evidently that is nothing, because you don't bench the league leading RB.

Did Coughlin bench Tiki Barber when he was fumbling all the time? Nope. Re-trained his handling. That's all you can do when you have a beast running for you.

Sorry can't agree with you WG
That fumble was a very important factor in us losing last night. Murray clearly does not understand how important it is and JG has not been able to deliver this message

Exactly, cutting crappy kickers and bottom roster guys for falling asleep in meetings isn't all that 'edgy' Leon Lett single handedly lost that Thanksgiving game and wasn't cut even though a lot of people thought he was the next day.

As far as benching Murray, I probably would have sat him the rest of the first half on that second fumble. I know not that big of a deal, maybe would have at least sent a message.

It was an important factor, If memory serves me correct we were near the red zone. At the very least we should've scored a field goal.

This is why they're not going to do anything with Murray...

Agreed. Anybody that thinks Jimmy would have benched him by now does not know what they are talking about.

The fumble against the Commanders was a tremendous effort by Murray, he just had to know that he's not going to get any extra yards against that many tacklers and could only fumble it. Murray is the least of this team's problems.
