Murray the Fumbler; What would Jimmy do?

All I do now on running plays is look for the ball on the ground. I really hate it, but I can't help it.

I think he has done better lately, I don't see him holding the ball out anymore, his effort backfired last night on one play. Fumbles suck and it will be unacceptable in the playoffs but without him, we're not even in that game last night and probably would have a losing record right now.

If anything, it helps us contract wise because it lowers his value a tad thus we won't have to sign him to a mega contract.

In the vein of what would Jesus/Jimmy do -

There is no question that Murray can run the ball but his fumbles are going to kill us in a playoff game someday - if we get that far. Would Jimmy have tolerated these fumbles from Emmitt ? What would Jimmy have done ?

One thing he would be doing is walking around with a football all the time in meetings ect and players and coaches trying to dislodge the ball all the time.

Jimmy would have kept feeding Murray the ball, fumbles or no fumbles, to slow down that Skins blitz. Never mind that Murray and the rushing game averaged more yards per touch than the passing game lat night. Good things happen when your team dominates TOP and being the abuser instead of the abusee. Everyone knows that, especially Jimmy.

Besides, Murray would not fumble under Jimmy. Jimmy is much more intimidating than the current coaching staff combined.

Yards are great, breaking records is great, but when your fumbles start costing your team games, something has to be said to send a message.

I would use "group discipline" in this situation to "motivate" Murray to start holding onto the ball. Every time he fumbles, the entire team runs wind sprints in practice all week. I bring a nice, big, lazy boy chair out for Murray to sit in and watch while his teammates are disciplined for his mistakes.

This is used extensively in the military.

can't read this entire thread, but I personally don't care what jimmy would do....he is on a boat somewhere...1993 is a LONG time ago....not busting the OPs chops at all, just saying that I get tired of the "Jimmy wouldn't put up with it" crap....if he was so fantastic, he would have had a MUCH longer resume of coaching in the NFL...

...that being said, Murray MUST clean up his act, and soon...

Jimmy would have given him the ball on 2nd and 2 allowing us to be 7-1.

Seriously, it would only take a couple Jimmy arse chewings on the sideline, Murray wouldn't be fumbling.

A 2000 yard rusher who fumbles 10 times is worth no more than a 1000 yard rusher IMHO.

He has to clean that up.

I do wonder what the rushing yardage equivalent to a fumble is but you might not be that far off. That Murray fumble negated a bunch of his rushing yards on Monday night.

I actually thought there was a fumble when one of the running backs (think it was Murray?) did a little spin move in middle of the field. I thought the ball came out.

Being fantastic had nothing to do with his longevity. Quite the opposite, in Jimmy's case. People consider Jimmy fantastic because he resurrected a franchise that was the laughing stock of the NFL, did so with no experience in the NFL, orchestrated a blockbuster trade to acquire a Hall of Fame talent, among other players, manipulated the draft in such a way that even today teams are using his draft-value chart and built a dynasty within four short years playing in a division and a league that featured some of the most powerful teams (Giants with LT, Commanders with the Hogs, Eagles with the Gang Green Defense, Packers with Reggie White and Brett Favre and the 49ers with Joe Montana, Steve Young and Jerry Rice) in league history.

That's why Jimmy Johnson is fantastic. I can understand not caring about what Jimmy Johnson thinks, and I sort of agree. This is a new time, a new day.
But let's not devalue the fantastic genius of Jimmy Johnson. And, no, his years in Miami doesn't detract from his legacy.
