Murray will be too expensive to keep

Tell that to Arian Foster. MB3 got paid, and Felix Jones never had the production that Murray had.

I'm with you somewhat.

..the thing is I'm not sure we couldn't draft another RB if needed if Murray were to leave.

Murray could be a better receiver out of the backfield IMO..

so until he becomes a dominant RB in all phases..

I just say be cautious in committing to Murray before you pay him tons of denero just to see him resume his injury history and not reach everybodies expectations.

Not against the player..just the financial patterns we have had as a team towards the position.

I never said we should pay him.

Id say offer him 3 mil a year and if it doesnt take it oh well. I like murray but with the injury history cant offer more.

Top 11
Chris Johnson - 11th in yards, 33rd in yards per attempt, 17th in rushes over 20 yards, 19th in touchdowns, 15th in yards per game, 10th in first downs....

Top 10 running back? Negative Ghost Rider.

The fact that Chris Johnson got 4 million in the market only strengthens my argument.

Adrian Peterson - 13 million
Jamaal Charles - 9 million
LeSean McCoy - 9 million
Arian Foster - 8.7 million
DeAngelo Williams - 8.6 million
Matt Forte - 7.6 million
Marshawn Lynch - 7.5 million (holding out for more money)
Jonathan Stewart - 7.3 million
Ray Rice - 7 million
Frank Gore - 6.4 million
CJ Spiller - 5 million
Trent Richardson - 5 million
Ryan Mathews - 4.7 million
Fred Jackson - 4.35 million
Reggie Bush - 4 million
Steven Jackson - 4 million

A lot of backs are stealing money. I'd put Murray in the 4 yr. 20 million range. Other than a healthy Peterson, McCoy, Charles, or Lynch, I'd take Murray over any other back on this list.

When a team has a great offensive line it allows them some cushion in re the RB position. Any team wants a solid running game. Teams with inferior passing games - even more so. Dallas can sling the rock - and because of recent investment in their O-line they can probably succeed with a RB by committee approach. Don't over-commit to a RB, however spectacular in spots, with a track record of injury. RB position outta college seems to be one of the most 'plug-n-play' positions in the NFL. and, considering salary vs. production/injury history - I would take McCoy over Adrian Peterson 'all day'. ;)

Who cares about next season? Draft one next April and move on.

classic album sig!

I say trade him to a team desperate for a running back. In exchange for a Pro Bowl defensive linemen.

In yards. NFL rankings go by yards primarily...

He's better than that anyway. The man played with an injury that required surgery for the last 13 games.
Tough lil sob.
1 missed game in 6 years is unheard of these days.

I see maybe 4 names in that list that make a considerable difference to the offense of their teams (Peterson, McCoy, Lynch, Rice). If BAL had any WR/TEs this could change and the same goes towards PHI. SEA/MIN are held back by the QBs and weapons on the outside. Spiller is a talent but wouldn't budge on what he is currently making. Puts alot of it into perspective, thanks for the info. Murray is on his last year...and that is okay. I read the the league is emphasizing def. PI this year as well...like they don't already? This position is almost going the way of the FB (not really but ya know)

When you're the 11th running back in yards and 20-30th in every other significant category, you're not the 11th best running back. Running the ball more than another player doesn't make you better than them.

I'll tell you at least 7 of those players make a key difference on their teams, but that is irrelevant to the point of this subject. I never suggested we should re-sign Murray.

Given Murray's production I would be willing to pay him upwards of $5m if the deals were year to year. What about like a 2 year $8m contract?

But if someone wants to pay him $20m then they can be my guest. It hasn't been particularly difficult to get a top RB in the last couple of drafts.
