Murray will be too expensive to keep

Given Murray's production I would be willing to pay him upwards of $5m if the deals were year to year. What about like a 2 year $8m contract?

But if someone wants to pay him $20m then they can be my guest. It hasn't been particularly difficult to get a top RB in the last couple of drafts.

I've noticed in any deal it seems as though people only see it from one point of view. Why on earth would DeMarco Murray, Age 26 sign a 2 year contract? And one at 4 million a year...

With the investment you've made in this offensive line... you would be foolish to invest in a halfback to that extent. That's 5/40. Yikes. I'll take a 2nd round draft pick. We can find these guys all day 2nd-5th... easy.

I am basing my outlook on the expectation that the days of RB getting lucrative 4 or more year deals is over.

the market is what it is.

When you're the 11th running back in yards and 20-30th in every other significant category, you're not the 11th best running back. Running the ball more than another player doesn't make you better than them.

LMAO!!! So Romo's Stats are bunk? ok lol

I'll tell you at least 7 of those players make a key difference on their teams, but that is irrelevant to the point of this subject. I never suggested we should re-sign Murray.

Yeah I just realized I included 5:D Naw, I was thanking you for the list bc I assumed there were more out there making higher value. I didn't mean to insinuate you were saying resign Murray, I was saying with those backs on the list, 4/yr seems about right if he were brought back. I wouldn't do more than a 2-3 year deal but that is about where Murray fits. He won't sign for that, but that is about his value.

If you look at what Murray will get on the open market, you can bet that he gets around 8 million per year from some team out there. That's entirely too expensive for a pass happy team in the Dallas Cowboys.

It'll be important at some point for us to try to maximize his value. Best option would be if we don't franchise Dez next year (meaning we've re-signed or traded him) is to find a trade market for Murray after franchising him.

I fully expect with the offensive line we have this year, that he is going to put up massive numbers. We could get a pretty considerate compensation in trading him. Probably not Trent Richardson value, but I wouldn't be surprised if we couldn't get a 2nd or 3rd for him, maybe even more than that if he has the productive year he is capable of.

I think we have a lot of running backs behind him that will be able to step up in his place now. Even Joseph Randle who were were all pretty down on is coming on stronger given the competition I suppose. Not sure whether I would trade Murray this year, but given the right price, that would be a possibility too.

But the fact is, this guy is gone next year, we shouldn't come up empty handed this time.

I disagree that he will be too expensive. Even IF he has a good year this year he is often injured and teams are not paying big money for running backs anymore. Not to mention, with the line we've assembled he would be an absolute fool to leave.

I always wonder why people keep saying things that have been proven untrue...

Players with injury history who produce large in one year, let alone two are still getting paid well in this league.
Teams are paying big money for running backs. No top 10 running back in the league is making less than 6.4 million dollars per year.
Whether he would be a fool to leave is irrelevant and irrespective of the issue at hand.

So you don't think playing in a system he knows he can succeed in with arguably the best offensive line in football will not factor into his decision to leave or stay? He may get over 6 million a year, but I don't think anyone will give him more then a 3 year deal. If we work something out with Dez I can see Jerry using the franchise tag on him

I'm still thinking $5 mill a year tops and I'm not saying I'd do it, but someone will.

You keep moving the goalposts. Are you talking yards, YPC, TDs or just salary???? Because Morris, Mathews, Lacy and Murray all make less than 5m. Chris Johnson, Moreno, Bush, Stacy, Bell, Spiller and Jackson are the next 8 and they make less.

Most of the Top 10 salaries are already overpays and the League is moving in the other direction. Moreno got 3m a year, Tate got 3m, Johnson got 4, Gerhart got 3.5m, Bush got 4m, MJD got 2.5m and McFadden got 1.6m.

Murray barely cracked the Top 10 in yards for the first time in 3 years last year. He is not exactly a work horse. Dallas should re-sign him, but they shouldn't overpay in years or guarantees. It's not that complicated.

I based on it salary... the top 10 paid players... all make over 6.4 million dollars... there is a list on the first page... but yeah... I just moved the goal post...

A lot of the players you just mentioned are on rookie contracts.... You realize that? The second half of your list is the over the hill gang.... who noticeably are no longer top 10 running backs...

Look at DeMarco Murray's numbers across the board.... everything is in the top 10.... almost everything is in the top 5 or 6.

And again, reading is fundamental.... NEVER suggested once that dallas should overpay him. In fact what is the very title of the the thread Murray will be TOO expensive to keep... Are you awake? THAT'S NOT COMPLICATED.

Someone will pay him, and his market value is clearly there.

I think the pay of the top 10 actual performers is more telling than what the top 10 salaries are.
Many of those top salaries are clearly mistakes.

Having said that, there are 32 teams, so we can be almost sure someone is going to pay a high performing back (even if they shouldn't or if the performance was only for one year) when given the chance.

In the end, barring another injury, he is going to get paid a lot by someone.

Let us see how the new and improved O line heps the running game.
I cannot wait to see. Not only will Tony get more protection but I expect Murray to get a 1,000 yard season.
Git er done, Murray!

He had over a 1000 last year. Assuming he stays healthy, he should easily get over 1000 again. It's not that big of an achievement. But that isn't going to be a factor in him staying. The better he does, the harder it will be to keep him.
