This time last year the rants were similar.

How oh how could we use a 2nd on another TE... how oh how could we draft 2 RBs when we already had Marion Barber... how oh how could we pass Mendenhall who is the worlds best player like ever for Felix Jones who sucks and is not good enough to start in college ... why did we take another Cb in Scandrick after Jenkins.. so we'd have a special teamer of course ....

Bottom line here is the Dallas Cowboys drafted guys they felt they had a plan for and they felt they got good value on their board which is the only one that matters.

4 of these guys were routinely in mocks to us in Brandon Williams, McGee, Jason Williams and John Phillips.

There's little chance Dallas hit son all these guys but I am willing to bet they hit on over half of them and that they will form a good nucleus of young players along with the top heavy draft last year.

I think your a little off base on my rant last year.

5-11? we could of skipped this draft altogether and still get better than 5-11, but when I saw it was you that posted this thread - I knew what I got myself into when I opened it......

That's the type of thinking that's wrong with the board. We have a couple of players who have spot locked down everyone else can be replaced. To many people are comfortable and we really didn't do anything to improve our team outside of the CB pick and WIlliams.

keeping ****ty players on our roster is the reason why we will go 5-11. Not get rid of the crap on our roster is why we will go 5-11.

hence why we got rid of TO and that CB from Tennessee. I see cleaner days already.....

I don't recall much rumbling about drafting two running backs. It was a foregone conclusion that Julius Jones was gone so we were going to need a replacement and a possible running back for depth.

Also, I don't recall much rumbling about Scandrick. I remember a few posters saying he would be great value. Now, I may be wrong, but I just don't recall the backlash compared to this year's draft.

Otherwise, I agree with you on the other points. I, personally, think it's a bit silly to call a draft a bust after it's over. Many of the "name" players don't turn out that great. And many of the lower drafted players turn out to be studs.

Time will tell. I'll wait.

well, that is why it is a good thing that us "professionals" do not run the show.

I don't care about losing pacman even though he was starting for us and what not. But losing TO is huge. I really don't think that the problems with the team will be solved by cutting TO.

JT's referring to DaBoys4Life's anti-Felix Jones rants from last year. Use the forum's archives. They were very entertaining.

I do, this team does not suffer from lack of talent as it appears you think it does. This team suffers from individualism and lack of coachability.

TO sucked all the coaches and Romo's attention much to the point of altering entire gameplans.

Too many players like TO, who himself finds it "ok" to show up late for every practice and finding no backlash from the coaching staff for doing so, feel the game plan is theirs and to hell with what is best for the team. What do you think such examples created for the team atmosphere?

If removing TO, Pacman, and anyone else who is a distraction does not fix this team's problem, then it is because the coaching staff is not man enough to be coaches not due to lack of talent. I mean how does a 13-3 team with so much talent play so lowly? Any other coaching staff would be sitting those players much earlier and fixing the problem asap which is what I am hoping the Cowboys are doing now. If not, hello Shanahan.

Jason Williams --- Day 1 nickel backer and WILB behind Brookings. Has 2 years to develop into a full time player. Fastest LB on the team. Yes, evgen faster than Ware. A threat on blitzes.

Robert Brewster --- The OL seemed to leap off boards and this guy was rated by Goose around where we got him. I don't know if he can play or not because OL are anathema to me and of course to the Dallas Cowboys.

Stephen McGee --- Exactly the QB I wanted us to grab. Highest ceiling after round 1. This kid was an all world high school passer who got caught up in Coach Fran's Vince Young offense. He is a strong kid, with a cannon for an arm and displayed plenty of toughness running the ball.

Victor Butler --- This is a pass rusher. He was their defensive team MVP. He blocks kicks and has serious quickness. Is very undersized for the position though. Probably not an every down player but the former Wr has quickness an dhands at the position to actually drop in coverage as well attack passers.

Brandon Williams --- Williams to me is a bit like Greg Ellis. He is a solid motor guy and a great team player(like Ellis he obeys his positional assignments and plays fundamentally sound).

DeAngelo Smith --- One of the guys teams were looking to move to safety. Has lots of CB experience so we know he can cover.

Micheal Hamlin --- Stiff but fast and big. Plays cover 2 defense well as shown by his 14 career picks.

David Buehler --- How much common sense did it take to recognize we needed longer kick-offs? This guy parked half his kicks for touchbacks in college football where guys will run balls out of the end zone regularly. He addresses a serious need there and if that buys us 30 yards per game that is worth the roster psot and the draft selection.

Stephen Hodge --- He is a tweener to be sure but he is also the best special teams coverage guy in the draft. He takes over for Keith Davis on the rookie minimum.

John Phillips --- Phillips was always a good fit for us. He is a solid all-around TE from a system that appreciates them. We keep 3 TEs and this guy has every chance to beat out Rodney Hannah.

Mike Mickens --- One of the very few really quick CBs in this draft. He can definitely man cover but he is small. Looks like a good 4th CB here day 1 who provides plenty of speed on special teams and in the nickel or dime defenses.

Manuel Johnson --- Obligatory Wr selection competes for a back end spot but likely ends up on the practice squad. I do like that he was a productive collegiate player. However this is also a WILDCAT prospect. This kid threw 48 TDs in high school as a QB. He was the Dave Campbell's Texas Football player of the year coming out of high school and rivals ranked him 16th in the state.

I didn't say it was YOUR rant.

I said "the rants"....

How do you know we didn't improve the team? I believe we actually did. I think the Kicker improves the team. I am extremely confident the OLBs improve the team.

Are these guys gonna be rookie of the year? No, they won't but scandrick wasn't either and he really helped us.

We needed Dbs and we needed OLB and we got some guys there who the scouts and coaches feel will help us.

good analysis jterrell

NFLDS compares Victor Butler to OLB Bryan Smith, who the Eagles took in the 3rd round last year, who initially was rated by NFLDS to be a 7th round/UDFA type, incidentally the same ranking they give Butler this year, and he goes a round lower, hmmm

I won't throw the front office under the bus, but we really did look like chumps compared to NE. Some of this is luck and how the players fall--and early on we had some bad luck. Overall, we played our hand okay, I guess. Very average is all.
As always, time will tell on these picks. Right now I think we reached way too often and ended up with no player that really screams "impact". We'll see....hopefully we pulled some gems out of the rough.

nfldraft scout had him going in the 5th and said he was rate 15th at his position and 154 overall.

Gossilin has been well proven on his draft analysis. I will go with him over NFL scout. Which I'm not all that familiar with. So won't comment on who writes it, and their draft knowlede.

Not saying they are bad, but they can have misses like everyone else.

Yeah 5-11. The problems with the team won't be gone. Also adding players for ST is also asinine. No back up center? Really? no full back really? Anderson blows and so does proctor.

You're absolutely right. No back-up center and no FB that we will hardly ever use anyway is going to cost us about 7-8 games this year. Spot on analysis.

Some of the Brewster reactions remind me of when we took Hatcher. At first everyone wondered who the hell this mammoth reach was, then we learned that several teams liked him and that we took him in about the right spot.

Yep.

And Hatcher has done what, exactly?
