I was never really crazy about diamonds but it was what she had her heart set on, so that's what I got her.
I kept telling her let me get you other gemstones or Apple stock, at least they may maintain their value over time.
She's obviously tremendously upset and I'm trying to maintain my composure.
Guess I'm just looking for perspective

Got any?

Tell her she should've of taken the Apple stock. But women want what they've been programmed to want. And a big fat engagement ring that puts you even more in debt is what they want. And you're not even married yet. More of the same to come. My advice is to get a prostitute.

Lol...yeah, Apple stock won't exactly make her friends jealous

Maybe this sounds harsh but losing a precious gem that symbolizes your love for her is a foreshadowing of how she will treat your marriage. It takes conscience intent and consideration to keep something so precious, safe and out of harms way. You should heed this experience as fair warning. She's not the one for you.

Haha, I just don't see the point.

there isn't one really, but sometimes you just do things, like why do I fly executive class to Europe instead of sitting crunched in economy, because I can. I stayed at the Grand Californian at Disneyland for CDN $800 per night ($600 US), when I could have stayed at the Sheraton for $250 CDN per night, why, because I could.

He bought the ring because he could. It is typical for people on the internet to be all knowing and tell others what they should do, when in reality, they would do the same in the same situation. You will end up buying a nice diamond ring when some chick says she will marry you, because you can. You aren't going to get Cubic Zirconia at Target and you know it.

Crap happens but not all crap just happens. Sometimes crap happens because you let it happen. When it comes to important matters, taking action to prevent crap from happening is what people that really care, do. She didn't do that. Her carelessness is very telling.

Haha, I didn't tell anyone how to do anything.

I bolded the hilarious hypocrisy of your post.

And no, no I won't. If she doesn't like it, she's not the one for me.

Years ago my mom legit lost her ring. Dad bought her a new one. Within a week she checked some obscure place and found her original ring.

Wore both afterwards lol

I didn't tell you to do it, I told you that you would

if you think you can find a woman who will be happy with cubic zirconia and that you will be cool telling your friends the ring you bought cost 150 a Wal Mart, more power to you, but nah, you will succumb to societal pressure, we all do
