My Idea to Solve the Redzone

Whats really worse is that his penalty really had no material effect on the play except for nullifying it.

Exactly. If a defensive back is beaten and knows the WR will score and then commits PI to stop that, you kind of understand. You don't love it, but it did prevent a score and give you a chance. But Free's facemask, as you said, served only to wipe out a great play and help the other team.

Is the redzone really an issue? I am always happy to see improvement, but we are currently 3rd in points per redzone attempt, and 4th in TD percentage in the redzone. Unless there is an obvious matchup that can be exploited I see no reason to change our approach in the redzone.

i have a couple recommendations for Linehan; first he should run more bunched or trip sets, secondly I would run a diamond backfield with Morris, McFadden and Zeke; that way any one can be getting the ball. Lastly I would have Dez return punts, he's the best punt returner and should take a couple to the house. Thoughts
Whew! For a minute there I thought you were going to say bring Romo in when we're in the redzone. lol

Penalties can destroy drives. They can be overcome but you're lowering the probability for success especially against quality defenses. There are excuses and REASONS.

So you're basically saying if we commit one penalty in the red zone our drive is over. Then we have bigger issues

I would echo those whose answer is, "just keep doing what you're doing, but dang it, eliminate the flags!"

Another suggestion? Don't take out Zeke. Keep him in there when in the redzone.

If we attempt a pass go with play action with Dak rolling out. I don't know why we take out Zeke when were in the redzone? Its just an easy giveaway that were not running the ball.

I disagree, penalties happen all the time. Did you not see Pitt complete a 2nd and 16 against cincy for 6. Good teams overcome them, it's a weak excuse
Actually good teams overcome them as a weak excuse

Also the hate for Dez on this board is laughable; he went from first team all pro to a scrub in one year. he's the only player we have that commands a double team

I hope David Irving is about to change this...

I've been saying Dez needs to return punts for 2 years now. It's ridiculous we're so scared to put him back there.

Teams really focus in on Zeke in the red zone, that's what I like the diamond.

We're 12-2 so we've dealt with adversity pretty well to this point. I'll repeat. Penalties can destroy drives. They CAN be overcome but you're great reducing the probability for success especially against quality defenses. We literally took a TD off the board. Jameis' bonehead penalty greatly reduced their chance to score. They ended up at goal from like the 30. That's tough. This isn't rocket science. Penalties hurt us Sunday night. That's all I'm saying.

All penalties are not created equal; you are using a dead ball 15 yard penalty as your example. That is totally different than a holding call

Not sure if serious.

Bunched sets work best against defenses with young players that are not prepared for it; otherwise, it has drawbacks. There is a reason you don't see teams run that formation repeatedly.

The 3 RBs in the backfield is silly. That just takes away blockers and replaces them with RBs. There is a reason they don't run a triple option in the NFL.

Dez has lost a step and has struggled with injuries in recent years.

Dez and Dak need to get on the same page with fade route. For whatever reason, Dak has no idea how to throw them.

You add in that weapon, and we're a lot more dangerous.
Dak can make any throw in the NFL. Dez got too deep on that back shoulder in the EZ, & didn't come back to the ball.
