My thoughts on the Cooks trade

With every deal it looks more and more like the 1st round pick will be a TE or DL. If I had to guess, it will be a DE. But I could easily be persuaded it will be a TE.
Why would they possibly draft a TE at all? Didnt they draft Ferguson with the full intent of him taking over at TE if he showed he was ready? Didnt he and Pendershot show they were ready? They already gave up draft capital on a TE last year, now let the guy take over.

Wiped out cb and wr out of high picks. Imo

Te, ol, dt, rb are options now for high picks.

Wouldn’t rule out a wr like boutte in 4th.
with the success they have had at OL, I could see them going Oline in the 1st and Dt in the 2nd.... BUT, I will freely admit I pay zero attention to college football, so that thought goes out the windo if they dont think the right guy at those positions is worth that high of a pick. I just dont see a TE coming in the draft,,,,........ at all, as in not drafting one.

-Very weird we got him for a 5th and 2024 6th, when the in season ask was supposedly a 1st

- Short term fix. Probably here for two years.

-WR wasnt likely at 26, but it should absolutely be on the table later if there is a guy they like. See above

- I wanted Hopkins above other WR's. Cooks does however fit #2 WR to a T

- He has been a very consistent player throughout his career. Fully healthy seasons have seen lows of 65 and highs of 90 in receptions. 75-1100 seems typical production.

-TD production is margin. Had a career high of 9 in 2015, but 5 or 6 seems the norm
Hopkins, OBJ and Cooks all 2 Maybe 3 years here so no change there. Dude puts up numbers with Every QB he plays with and he's reliable fast and consistent

All true, but I am deducing it from teh fact that they have done nothing at the position even though they are losing Schultz. They haven't even made a serious offer to Schultz. It just smells like they have their eye on a TE.

He’s a good rental player. Not expecting much, preferred Hopkins, but Cooks cost nothing.

Free agency is about letting the draft come to you on the first two days. If WR or CB is BPA, that’s whom we will select. Free agency is often about 1-2-3 years. The draft is about 4-8 years, hopefully.

Cooks, cooper and Hopkins all have 61k seasons.. yes Hop is the better oif the 3 but truly its not big gap more lie !a 1B 1C type situation. Coper and cooks careers almost mirror each other.

Well could it be because they already have 2 TEs on the roster that they are extremely happy with? You damn sure arent signing any TE as a FA to be your third guy... they will wait and get a CHEAP vet or do the UDFA just like they did Pendershot last year, but they are not spending anymore on a TE or wasting anything above a 5th rd pick on a TE.

MAYBE and this is a small maybe, Schultz simply doesnt get any real offers and comes back on a 1 year deal, but I doubt that also.

Really? OLine seems most likely to be BPA from my perspective of the draft at this point.
Smith Smith Biadiasz Martin Steele

Rule of thumb for nfl is to only draft LTs in the first round unless there is a run on more valuable positions and get your inside guys in the middle rounds. Martin being the exception.

I like it.

They gave up very little and got Houston to pay part of his salary and we get an absolute quality player.
Haven’t read details
So what’s our cap cost gonna be
I assumed the 25 over 2 years

There is also a chance to add a really good TE prospect at 26 or a decent prospect later to go with Ferguson and hendershot
We are pretty close to being in a position of not having to draft a position but just the best guy that fits an area of need. Guard is the only really must have and it n Mm at not be by the draft

I seen that but thought someone said they were paying part of his salary
Fairly reasonable either way considering we only gave a comp pick for him lol

A lot of times during a season you’re able to squeeze a lot more out of the team that’s in a playoff run. Not so much during the offseason. There’s free agents out there and you have the draft coming up. His play will determine how long he’s here. He’s 29 and still has some good years left.

It was 18.5, the texans basically paid 6 of it for that 6th round pick next year.

If Kincaid were there, they’d consider him as a big play TE in the passing game. A trade down for Washington out of Georgia would be just what Big Mike would love for the run game. Many think the big TE could transition to OT he‘s so good.
