MySa Blog: NFL fines Ball

No, it's someone who actually watched the game. He led with the shoulder. It was pretty obvious.

Oh sorry, not Wade. Garrett?

Apologists!

It was a justified penatly, and the fine is appropriate. Ball took a hard shot and led with his helmet for added impact. The replay shos it was premeditated based on his body movement. IT WAS STUPID because we had the third-down stop, but his STUPIDITY gave KC the ball back (not to mention, threatened possible, nedless injury to the opponent).

And the Cowboys' response to the infraction was IDIOTIC also, because they chose to complain about it and suggest it was a tic-tacky call. That's what's wrong with this staff; the right move would have been to call-out the player for this MENTALLY STUPID error. NO NEED TO LEAD WITH THE HELMET AND DRAW A NEEDLESS PENALTY! But no, not this staff; if someone does something STUPID, let's defend it at all costs.
are you kidding? THat was not helmet to helmet!

I watched that replay at least 7 times, and it sure seemed like it was shoulder to shoulder IMO.

As did I.

I'm confused by it, I guess I'm just seeing it wrong because I was watching the game with my friend and he was like, good call. But all i was seeing from the replay was shoulder to shoulder. Oh well.

Why would the Roy hit get a fine?

are they not handing out fines for laying out a reciver just because? I think hard hits are part of football but I guess there is to much money in it now :bang2:

It wasn't just because. Roy went up for the ball and got hit.

I never saw anything that showed conclusively their helmets even touched. Ball hit the WR shoulder to shoulder. He did not lead with his helmet. If their helmets touched at all, it was simply the result of the WR's neck snapping back because he was hit so hard. I thought it was a bad call that was only made because of how violent the hit appeared in real time and I still don't think their helmets even touched.

According to AMERICA'S_FAN you are wrong, and he intentionally led with his helmt :laugh1:

I watched it over and over too. It looked to me that the edge of his shoulder pad just caught the front of the facemask. I would say that 97% of the hit was not to the head or helmet. He did lead with the shoulder and caught the guy in the chest with the shoulder. I thought that it was a great hit.

I also agree that this is taking away from one of the great things about the game.

Amen to that. They will be playing while wearing flags in another 20 years........

But even in the broadcast, i think both Joe Buck and Aikman said it was a good call.

Though i disagreed.

Did he get a FedEx from the league, as well?

I did a google search and couldn't find anything. I'm not sure.

I just watched it on TiVo and his shoulder hit the bottom of the ball carriers facemask. That's why his head jerked back.

see that is where I get confused on the rule as many games this week the flag was thrown for hitting a WR after he touched but did not catch the ball. All I want is the rules to be called the same, just like the helmet to helmet, the flag was thrown on Ball but no flag on KC for hiting Romo's helmet. That is my circular thinking anways call everyone or call no one. Football is turning into football (soocer) where Refs. call what they want against who they want, not really because of the rules

Joe Buck wouldn't know a good hit if it was put on him. Aikman said that by the stricktest letter of the law, it was the correct call but that he didn't like the rule. Thought it was a bad rule.

Aikman said it was a good call, but he didn't like the rule. That's how I feel. The shoulder made contact with the facemask, but not much at all.

Kind of like when a defensive player tries to bat a ball down, and as his hands come down it grazes the quarterback's facemask. When he gets a 15 yarder on him, it's technically the right call, but the rule sucks. It doesn't follow the spirit of the rule.

It would have to be Bilbo Baggins.

It was a BS call. Ball led with his shoulder. He hit the player in the chest with his shoulder causing the players head to snap forward. It made it look like he hit with his helmet but he didn't.

They miss calls. Looking for consistency out of the officials is a lost cause.

Week in and week out the officials are terrible.

With that said, I don't think it makes much sense to look for flags or penalties on plays that do not deserve them just because some other official made a bad call and flagged a play that didn't deserve one.

The defender didn't go high and hit the receiver in the air. Clean play IMO.
