CowboysZone ULTIMATE Fan
DTs (five)
1 Osa
2 Gallimore
3 Hill
4 Watkins
5 Winner: Ridgeway vs Bohanna ?

CBs (six)
1 Diggs
2 Brown
3 Lewis
4 Joseph
5 Wright
6 Goodwin or Bland ?

Five DEs (DLaw, Williams, Armstrong, Golston, Fowler)
Four safeties (Kearse, Hooker, Wilson, Bell)

Pretty good. I think this is what or about what I have. I need to go look, though it was always in a state of change. Since TC started I have not went back to look or make any adjustments yet.

If a 2nd and a 3rd round draft pick can't get themselves into a starting position I'd move on.

No, but your idea is cut him, cut him, cut him. Screaming CUT HIM is not discussing. Why not let someone beat him out first?

I never liked the Hill pick, and hope we have enough talent so we can cut him.
He's been horrible. We should have already cut him. If we cut Watkins instead of him it will be a horrible move and if we cut one of the younger guys (who while unknown at least have the potential to impress) it will be even worse. There have been many players we could have brought in, but the blind hope that he may earn his draft position has been part of why we haven't done much to find a 3 tech

The Cowboys are going to end up cutting genuine NFL talent unless they make some opportunistic trades for genuine talent.

Trade a safety for an offensive lineman or a defensive tackle for a receiver, etc.

These are the kind of guys you have to be patient with if you want to develop roster depth.
They are cheap and still young.
Hill was drafted as a baby. He's younger than just about anyone else on that DL still.

Both these guys could get decent pay days eventually and hand us comp pick return.
Hill especially as DTs are always overpaid in free agency.

Your absolutely right . People in this forum throwing out the word “ jag “ I’ve heard it said about Carlos Watkins as an example . You have to build a roster have depth not the entire squad is all pro . In this game today no one plays all the snaps guys are situational rotate in and out .

This. You don't cut Mukuamu or Wilson unless you're a dumb team. Since they seem hell bent on handing the job to Bell.

According to a piece in todays SB Nation Aidan Davis both Wright and Hill are having good camps . I don’t think Wright was in any danger not making the roaster but it’s nice to know a fairly high pick is having a good camp. Could steal some time from K Joseph maybe challenge Brown.

Hill I would believe is in his last roundup if he doesn’t impress. Cowboys have invested in this position last several drafts plus FA so Hill needs to have a good camp to see the Bucs up close and personal . He has to stay healthy which has been an issue . Two names I was surprised to read about .
He’s not gonna challenge brown
Brown is a much better CB than folks here think he is

Hill has elite physical ability.

Going back to his 1st preseason:
vs Run
Good vs power runs that come right at him.

No clue how to defend on the move zone run blocking.

vs Pass
Uber quick penetrator.
About as quick as any 308 pound player in the league.
His best college seasons were as a 3-4 NT.

Might make a wow play off the snap but...
Might fall down from a lunging type penetration move.

His 1st preseason they played the 49ers and their unique zone blocking scheme.
He looked silly vs that scheme.

In the 2021 season playoff game vs the 49ers he was decent.
However, like all Cowboys defenders that scheme gave them problems.
That scheme screws up the timing, angles & run fits for defenders.

Odighi struggled vs that scheme also.

Playing vs zone run blocking might be the #1 key issue for the Cowboys defense in 2022.

The Pats in the Brady era were not a zone heavy offense.
Not certain about Tampa in their Brady era.

49ers, Rams, Packers, Vikings have been top zone teams in recent years.

Cowboys in 2014 were the top zone team in the league but they played both man and zone.
Jerry should offer Bill Callahan HC type money to return as OL coach.
He might be the only guy that can equal the 49ers and Rams zone schemes.

Great breakdown . What’s your take on Wright . I think this is a hit for DQ. Flew out to Oregon he got involved in that pick . Could challenge for serious CB time and if he’s a ball hawk opposite Diggs would be sweet .

I mean it’s not foreign to the rest of league. Every team will cut some NFL talent. Going to be some good players cut.

Didn't we hear about Wright having a great camp last year as well? Don't get me wrong, I'm rooting for everybody on the team, but I'm definitely cautious about some of the camp hype.

I like Brown quite a bit. I catch lots of flack. I don’t think Joseph unseats Brown either .
I hope both young CB’s are worthy of starting because then you don’t have to pay second contracts to a CB but it’s not gonna be this year for sure
But developing the next guy at any position is so important
I hope McKeon can really do something this year as well as Ferguson since Schultz is likely gone next year

He hasn't been horrible. He's been really good at times. Injuries appear to be his biggest issue.

TBH, I am over Hill, ...just hoping he is good enough to fetch a pick in a trade later in PS. Wright still may be of value on ST and backup DB.

Totally agree with you regarding bringing Callahan back. We aren't cutting it with Philbin and I think he is the main reason this oline has regressed considerably.

We should have never let Callahan go.
