Nate's measuring stick is obviously Stepnoski.

If we're comparing anyone to Fredbeard, nobody on that line, excluding Tyler Smith, is even close to being ready.

I think in 3 years, he could be a very solid tackle, possibly all-pro. But he would be an all-pro guard off the bat.

Or until he gets his blocking down in areas where he doesn't have to use his hands as much. We'll see. He seems to be a fast learner. How fast is the question.

I think he has the brains to temper his bad tendencies.

But talk about a crash course at the position.

There'll be some growing pains, for sure.

3 years to be very solid? Thats too long.

He certainly was it was very refreshing in a time where everyone is so concerned about everybody's feelings and who's going to get butt hurt that the truth never really comes out.

Nate told it like it was and no one can question him because he walked the walk and talk the talk and has pro bowls and super bowls to show for it.

It's great when every once in a while The story doesn't get sugar-coated and just gets told the way it is

Agree 100 percent. I live in DC and the team basically sucks and has sucked for years. They parade the old guys out and 99 percent of them say this team is the best thing since sliced bread and that the playoff hunt is real "THIS YEAR". There is one guy (Brian Mitchell) who was a special teams guy and punt returner and quite good in his day. He has no problem with saying what the team isn't and is. He will call out the management in a second. Little harsh sometimes and the die hard fans love him and hate him at the same time.

Yes. The line is not a strength. But having Zach Martin is a great thing for this offensive line and team…

Nate is speaking with a lot of emotion…it is what it is at this point. If Mike McCarthy is the coach he thinks he is he adjust like other teams.

Smith should start at LT. That is why we burned a t 1st rounder on him.
Ball should be on the bench and we need to add some depth (or by some miracle a starter) in FA

Tyler Smith was drafted to play LG.

We need to stop contorting the facts.

Stephen is deliberately spreading disinformation now.

No, he was for sure drafted to eventually take Tyron's spot, but in the short term play LG

Just like they drafted Zack Martin to play OT too amirite?

Zack Martin was a 16th overall pick, significantly higher draft investment than Tyler Smith.

No, they drafted Martin to play OG with the flexibility to play OT. We had a young superstar at LT but holes at OG.

Tyler Smith was the other way around. They had an aging LT and a RT that they were going let walk. But the hope was he would transition to OT later vs immediately.

Irvin is becoming a Jerry microphone ,. jerry has softened him so much into jerry's rose eyeglasses. jerry at this stage wants supportive people around him by all means and is not tolerant of any negative talk.
Even stephen A was so soft during the show at the Star. the lovefest show and endless optimism continues as jerry has ordered.

Tyron was a generational talent. Tyler is not yet at the same level as Tyron was when he was drafted. The Cowboys drafted him for his potential.
this^^ again is right^ The kid needs at least 1 year. Let him be the swing tackle and start him at LG. We are in trouble if McGovern is our starting LG. CM is a decent guard but nuthin more.

Age with Michael has softened him. Nate however, has nailed it. He aint afraid 2 call them out. Jerry has culled the media again. They are sycophants. I will give Mike Fisher credit at least for banging the drum that we need a Lt and what Jerry is doing is borderline foolish. I gained a bit of respect for Fish .

Fish speaks sometimes but in order to stay in the good graces of Charlotte and Jerry he pretty much avoids criticizing jerry . Jerry's media machine is humming along and everyone is optimistic as usual about the next season. we have seen and heard this for 27 fruitless years. Jerry will use 3 reliable excuses for the failure to reach the CCG or the Super bowl.
1- We had the talent and he is not happy about being eliminated , and next year will be crucial for the coach.
2- We were so close and next year the team will be better as we have some veterans back
3- injuries ( usualy to a coveted star) prevented us from going further and next year we will have them back.

blah blah blah

Not sure if YouTube will eventually block it but I uploaded the entire Nate Newton segment for any members who have not seen it:

I thought maybe I was taking tyron's injury a little too hard maybe making too much of it until I saw Nate Newton on national television.

He was being prodded by his friend Michael Irvin to try and say something positive about our offensive line.
Nate was flat out so disgusted that he said there was nothing good about the offensive line that Josh Ball was no good.

Michael kept trying his best to put a spin on it but Nate was having none of it he was flat out disgusted and made his feelings known on national television this was really telling to me as to the true state of our offensive line

I like him a lot. He always says what he thinks and he only says his opinion where he has experience.
I also heard what he said about Ball and i was wondering why there werent more comments here on this board about it.
It was well on the point imo. Good stuff from him.

He for sure is a DC from the bottom of his heart.

This team simply cannot start Ball at left tackle.. He is essentially a rookie and Smith IS a rookie. That's a horribly weak left side. You gotta go with Smith at LT.. let him take his lumps and develop. McGovern will hopefully at least be serviceable at LG. No matter how you slice it the line WILL be a problem area this season. But to honest the way Philbin has been coaching, I was kinda expecting it to be anyway.

No Jerry needs to take his lumps and get us a veteran left tackle by hook or by crook he needs to get it done and fast

Letting Collins go and not really replacing him is really a problem now.

Yeah in a league starving for offensive line talent, it was a terrible act of hubris to pretend we could just walk away from a good one. Even if he had slipped to just average, Collins was worth keeping on the roster even if he is a bit of a knucklehead.
