This would be a great opportunity for Dak to prove he's a leader, and take the low priced contract that would help the team surround him with the talent he needs around him.

LOL how about No. Dak Prescott is about the 65th highest paid QB. The Cowboys ALREADY got their discount for the first 3 seasons. If there was one QB that should NOT take a lower contract it is Dak. Dak, Cam Newton, and Russell Wilson are the LAST QBs that should be taking discounts.

The Panthers, Seahawks, and Cowboys have gotten way better production given the amount (relative to other NFL teams) they pay for Newton, Wilson, and Dak.

Right now he’s about 10-15 per. Two playoff wins or more and it might go up considerably.. If u take into consideration how many times he’s been sacked and is still above .500 then that is what his agent will cling to, any other qb would be injured by now...

I hope Jerry gives him a huge long term contract just to sit back and watch some of you step off the ledge! That would be priceless. Lol!

I like Dak, don't love him, but I see a lot of good attributes that any coach worth their salt would love. Fans are gonna sit up in the stands and yell, or at their laptops and pound the keyboard. They don't know or see what coaches know and see at practice and in the film room . Watching all 22 and the NFL replays doesnt qualify people to do anything but blow off steam. Even Garrett knows more that the so called experts around here, myself included.

Your players should be paid based on worth, not how much they made the past three years.

And....he cannot be the reason you loose games
He might not be the reason the team wins ( t.bay game good example), but he has to avoid mistakes that loose games (1st skins game fumble)

This is silly. Most QBs get blamed when teams lose games, because many times it's their fault.

Telling QBs that they must avoid mistakes is fine, but that means Dak will make 1 read and then just dump it off to Zeke or a TE for a 1-yard gain (or he could just take off after that 1st read). Then punt. This would certainly avoid him making a mistake, and avoid him holding the ball too long. But we would all complain about his rush to get rid of the ball, and the offense not staying on the field.

QBs will often be the cause of team's losing games, and winning games. Can't get around that. Basically, half the teams in the NFL lose every week, right? And for those 16 teams, guaranteed that 90% of the fans blame their loss on the "poor QB play" that week (some critical bad throw, or sack, or turnover, or missed read, whatever). It's what we do. ;)

So, I'm all for blaming Dak when the Cowboys lose, when he plays poorly....but when this team wins, and he avoids critical mistakes, especially late in the game, and makes plays, keeping drives alive, I have to give him a lot of the credit. Since this team can win 10 games, and already has the NFC East locked up before the end of the season (just like in his rookie season), you damn skippy I'm giving the Cowboys QB a lot of credit. Just like I did when Aikman simply handed the ball off 35 times and threw the ball 15 times, and won the game.

Now let's see if Dak can find a way to win a playoff game...that's the next challenge. Glad he's trying for his 2nd time in 3 seasons into his young career. To me, those are signs that this new Cowboys team led by Dak are on the right track. I think a coaching change at the coordinator level, and a few more dependable pieces, and this team can continue to have real success, that will end in deep playoff runs.

Any team that extends a QB who’s not elite is in this same boat. Teams overpay for middling guys to avoid having bad ones. The position is too important. We don’t need know-nothings telling us about the math. Yes, 2nd QB contracts are expensive.

Dak’s going to get paid and he’s going to get a reasonable commitment from the team. It’s happening. The question is how to assemble the right talent around him now.

That is fine. Pay him based on worth...whatever that is...

But to suggest that Dak Prescott, under ANY circumstances, should take less than what he is worth (whatever that is) is ludicrous.

Andrew Luck should take less than what he is worth, so should Matt Stafford, Derek Carr, Kirk Cousins, and Matt Ryan.

Given that there are 3rd string QBs making more than Dak NOW and even if you foolishly think Dak Prescott is the worst QB in the NFL...he still is making WAY below the going rate for the 32nd NFL QB.

They should be, but they're not. Owners cut players with millions left on the deals. Players need to get what they can, when they can. As a former coach, my job was on the line every Friday. I knew that any year my salary could be cut in half. That's the business.

Who said he should take less than he's worth? I said it would be a good opportunity to prove his leadership, by taking a deal that would allow the team to surround him with everything he needs to succeed. If he can't succeed with less, he's not worth it.
