NBA 2015 Season Talk

Bout to watch my bulls beat the Knicks. lol

what are yalls thoughts on Rondo trade to Dallas...

Will be interesting to see how Rondo and Ellis co-exist. Both are ball dominating guards. On paper they've definitely turned into a powerhouse, though.

I really liked Brandon Wright losing him hurts the depth big time. But a legit pg was a huge need Nelson with the exception of a couple of games has been really bad

Greg Smith and Aminu has to step up... yeh, they could use another big.

Nelson is terrible, and so is Felton. I wanted to puke seeing those two players on the Mavs roster. Rondo/Harris is miles better. Aminu will have to step up.

Lillard is a killer, his ability to create space off the dribble, and from a triple threat position is AI like...

Say what you want about Josh Smith, but when playing the 4, and surrounded by talent, he's a problem athletically.
Him and Corey Brewer brings a huge defensive upgrade to the rocks.....
should be an interesting year...

My Spurs are struggling......since starting 17-7, they are now 1-6 in their last 7 games.

Although they are struggling, I am not really worried. I am still very positive and upbeat about it all. They have 13 losses. In all but 1 of them, the Rockets game, they have been in it with a chance to win down the stretch. They absolutely gave away the Memphis triple overtime game away on 4 different occasions (regulation, 1st OT, 2nd OT, and 3rd OT). Splitter, Parker, and Leonard have missed a bunch of games with various injuries. Then, there are the games where Pop rests players. Even through all of this, they remain competitive down to the end. The rest of the roster is getting valuable playing time now, so when the post season starts and they are called upon to perform, they won't poop the bed. Our rookie, Anderson, is definitely benefitting from having to play several of Leonard's minutes.

So while I am not happy to be 18-13, I am happy that we are competing night in and night out. I am happy with the play of Duncan and Green, who are both playing lights out. Joseph is also playing very well.

I believe once we get Parker and Leonard back and into the rotation again, we are going to go on a nice run of wins and move up in the standings. Then, once we get Patty back, we will get even better. I see us ending the season as a top 3 seed in the West. We just have to weather this very tough stretch against some very good teams right now.

I'm not worried about the Spurs as a team, because IF they get healthy, they have the ability to be in the mix. The problem is, the West is an absolute buzzsaw. You can't give an inch in this conference, or you'll find yourself on the outside looking in. Top 3 is a reach, short of going on like a .750 streak from here on out. I'll take top 6, because I feel like the seeds won't really matter much once the playoffs start.

you may be right, but I want to be super optimistic.....until they cant get top 3, I say they will get top 3.

various:
Spurs are in real trouble. Were really before the year began. Aging team coming off championships usually are.

Rondo looks great as a Mav. His defense last night on Westbrook was stellar.
After losing Marion Dallas had to have a guy who can guard athletic wings.
Rondo's quick hands and long arms give them something they seriously lacked.

Houston is interesting. Josh Smith is a poor scorer in efficiency and he doesn't always play hard but he is a great athlete and you can dial a guy like that in for a year or so. Rockets are better than they were last year.

GSW are coming back to earth a bit. Not too shocking as no one is the West will keep those insane 80% winning clips all year IMHO.
As defense becomes a bigger deal GSW will struggle some.

Memphis is so friggin tough. Just wonder if they can ever get an explosive scorer how they'd look then.
Hard to see those guys winning series after series without getting cold from the field once at home and losing road games where they can;t mug people.

Lilliard looks as amazing as he did early last year. Wonder if he hits a wall again. If not, look out. That team is really well built.

The East just really is bad all the way around. Not sure how people watch that all year. It is really bad basketball.
Still expect the Cavs to win the East mostly because no one is any good. At least the Cavs have some talent and motivation to go for it all.

The Knicks... wow man just feel sorry for their fans. At least the Lakers had all those glory years recently. The Knicks brought in a wunderkind GM and STILL overpaid for Carlmelo to play with scrubs.

You could combine the Lakers and Knicks roster and not make the playoffs in the West.

I'm not worried about the Spurs IF they get healthy. We all knew that Mills, Splitter and Manu were banged up to start the season, which was going to hurt depth, but they had the starting talent to compete. But, Kawhi and Parker missing a lot of time has killed them. They lost arguably their two best guys for significant chunks. Also, from what I've read, Kawhi won't be actually healed without surgery and until the offseason. So, it's a much serious issue than originally thought. The biggest issue with this team is that all the injuries have guys playing 35+ minutes a game. They're not built for that. They were so good last year because they came at you in waves and nobody played 30+. If they can't get that under control, they'll burn out by the second round - but they WILL make the playoffs.

None of this is new or unseen.
Spurs fans acted like I was kicking their dog for pointing out this is likely how it would go.

The Spurs were very fortunate last year with health but traditionally they've struggled after long playoff runs.
It is really hard for guys at that age to stay healthy all year after a long playoff run where you've got to play 110 miles per hour.
The Spurs did it 2 years in a row and a 3rd would have been a miracle.

Tony Parkers last 5 season games totals are 56, 78, 60, 66, 68.
He was ALWAYS probably going to play 60-65 games this year

Losing Patty Mills was huge. Because he is a young ascending guy that knows the system. And there was no replacement option.

Kawhi.. Not sure what to say there except it is gonna be tough to keep him in SA. They don't wanna pay him yet there are 10x as many teams as there are legit stars.
Someone will be glad to pay him big money. He's gonna get 15+ mil per year. Not sure how he sees things to be honest or how much he is willing to sacrifice to win this year.
Young guys who've never made big money are not exactly Tim Duncan or Dirk.

As to the minutes, you are correct. The problem is anyone could see those minutes were gonna be an issue.
They lost Mills before the year started and needed good luck on health to keep those minutes down.
Pop can do a lot of great and crazy things over short runs but long term, talent is talent.
SAS is about the 5th most talented team in the West.
With injuries they are not in the top 8.
They are very unlikely to go on some insane run because there's a lot of other very good teams in the West trying to do the same thing.
Winning 65% of their games the rest of the year would be a major accomplishment.
But that would probably land them as a 7 seed.

The good news for Spurs fans is they may well be able to bounce back big time in 2015/16.
Get a quality signing to go with adding Patty back.
Get Anderson in the weight room all summer.
Eventually some talent has to shift East, right?
