I'm a Spurs fan and I'm excited to see how Carlisle deploys Doncic.
I haven't paid enough attention: does he play rooks?

In the past he's tended to sit them for the most part when they were drafting in the later part of rounds but Dennis Smith Jr. got a lot of playing time last year. He has no choice at this point with this crappy Mavs team. :(

He generally starts them slowly, but he had Dennis Smith Jr logging strong minutes fairly early last year.
Doncic and Smith Jr should be a fun, energetic backcourt
I'm excited to see it. I just love basketball. I hate what's going on with my Spurs, but it doesn't dull my excitement for the game. I was totally into the Summer League game today with the Spurs versus the Wizards. Lol.

NFL, Rugby and NBA are my faves.
Cowboys from '77 (no choice)
Spurs from '87 (They were local!)
All Blacks from 2005 (It was the Haka that got me)

Doncic absolutely has to play. No two ways about that.

He gave Dennis Smith 30 minutes a game last and played on ball alot. Donicic should see that time or more.

However I haven't watched enough Mavs ball to guess who will have ball in their hands. I dont know much Smiths off the ball game. I have heard people talk about him at SG though

Guard
Doncic, Smith Jr, (Mathews rotating)

Forward
Harrison Barnes
Nowitzki

Center
Deandre Jordan

Not terrible
Depending on Donicic's impact and Smiths growth, I think you are in contention for a lower seed. Doncic being known for a high basketball IQ makes it a much smoother transistion.

At minimum I think you guys are at the very low end of the lottery in 2019. Id be shocked if surrendered higher then the 13th overall in the trade up

50 million
But would depend on if Jordan works out, could be half that

I have to be honest. I'm still ticked off at Jordan from when he bailed out of his agreement in 2015 with the Mavs. I hope he changes my opinion of him.

I'm somewhat of a casual basketball fan, but I like what my Mavs have done this offseason. If Jordan pans out he's a stud center and Doncic seems like a great prospect.
DSJ played better than expected last year and
Harrison Barnes is a good player.
My boy Dirk is close to the end of his amazing career. Can they squeeze out one more playoff run + maybe a series win?

Id say a series win would ve doubtful right now because they would likely run into GS. However just getting there and getting Smith and Doncic playoff experience so young would be huge to the development of the team. Let your young pillars see first hand what they need to do to be playoff performers.

Carlisle runs a multiple ball handler offense.
Both guys will initiate stuff and both guys will run PnR.
DSJ will have to improve his outside shot by leaps to fully become off the ball successful.

The envisioned offense is a lot of pick and roll with DAJ and Doncic/DSJ. Dirk and others outside to provide spacing.

Very basic NBA offense but still one of hardest to defend.

Yea Mavs issue will be lack of 2 way players.
They have some intriguing fits for Carlisle to play with but not enough 2 way players.

They will rebound far better (from worst in NBA lol) and defend better but still be will reliant upon offense to win games.

They aren't touching GSW or HOU in a series.
