His agent wants them to be public. The only leverage they really have is to get the fans upset and in turn to put pressure on the team.

Every person that you see on this site that is upset that the Cowboys are "screwing" Dez, are actually pawns in his agent's scheme. The more that fans "help" agents, the more difficult it is for the Cowboys to field a competitive team under the salary cap.

If fans that cheer loudly at home games have a small part in helping the Cowboys win. Then fans that take sides with at player over the team have a small part in help the team lose.

I don't think these fans that complain know enough about the numbers to complain about the Cowboys handling. We jusy don't have enough information to make a fair assessment. They could be making a reasonable offer for all we know. I think the FO is at a point where they aren't influenced by that now. They seem to be acting like the parents who won't let their kids eat ice cream and cookies for breakfast whether the children(the fans) understand why or not.

I still don't care for public negotiations. Thats the stuff that actually leads me to support the other side in any negotiations. Complaining to the media makes a person look immature imo. It should have been kept quiet up until he doesn't get a deal, and then he could voice his frustration for a short time and move on. His Agent is making Dez look bad in these negotiations, not the other way around.

Jerry walked with Murray. and it looks like he is going to walk with Dez. looks like no Super Bowl for Romo and Witten. and maybe no playoffs for a few years.

Murray is a tired, beaten mule, and Dez only knows one way to play.

This is what New England, Pittsburgh, Green Bay and Baltimore do. Works pretty well for them.

I hope a deal gets down by wed but some are acting like Players should write their own contract and the team just bend over to any demands made. I expect the team to give some and I expect Dez to give some. It takes 2 sides to get a contract done not just what the player wants or else he is going to sit out and pout.

Come on JJ pay the man stop low balling your star player. You didn't do this with Romo so why with Dez? The man did everything you ask for him and he has played up to his potential. Retaining him will not be cheap but I doubt we can replace him.

Yes, the way business works is that you take the best offer available. He has to decide if the Franchise Tag or the contract they have offered is the best offer for him. The decision is up to him because they are not going to offer him a Megatron contract which appears to be what he wants.

Wrong again. it's not about getting Calvin Johnson money. it's all about the guaranteed money. at some point you are going to get it. in business, you don't just say to the guy offeringthat you will take anything he offers. thatis not the way business works.

Ridiculous.

Romo is a QB. Dez is just a receiver. Who was the great wide receiver for the Super Bowl champions last year?

I believe that Stephen Jones is doing the right thing by not caving to Dez's "demands." Like many people have said on this board, the old Cowboys would've given him a record setting deal that most people would laugh at how ridiculous it was. The new Cowboys are all about doing team friendly deals while still trying to pay the players their respective due salaries. I firmly believe that if they can;t reach a deal this year, they will try again next year and if not then, they will draft his replacement and say "bye Felicia." The FO is starting to implement a new standard for being "team first" and every incoming player will have to understand that going forward which will only help this team in the long run.

I would love the Cowboys to emulate the Spurs way of doing things: you come in and be apart of our system and compete every year for slightly less money or you can go be rich and lose. IF, and it's a big if, that's what the Cowboys are trying to do then it will take some time, and there will be growing pains (losing big players like Dez for example). I hope that is what they are trying to do, because it will mean long term sustainability and competitiveness. Just my 2 cents.

Who was the last star WR to win a Super Bowl? I can't think of one recently.

And some are acting like the player should just take whatever the team wants. it takes both sides to do business.

Exactly right. Some of these fans woulda had them pay anything and everything for both Murray and Dez and in turn no Hardy or flexibility. Newsflash everyone, this team DIDN"T win anything last year with both of them. The successful organizations are the ones who don't panic. As frustrating it may get to us fans, we need PATIENCE.

We have 2 playoff wins in going on 20 years. now you want to set the team back, and wait even more years.that's not fair to guys like Romo or Witten. or to the fans.

You are right it takes 2 not just Stephen giving Dez whatever or Dez just accepting any deal thrown his way. I think it is hard to argue either side right now without knowing all the facts on what is being offered and what is being demanded. As I said I expect both the Cowboys and Dez to compromise so that a deal that is good for both can be achieved.

It all sound great. but wait until the losing starts again. won't be so good. be careful what you wish for.

There is no way in my opinion that Dez walks away from 700 grand a game. He's made alot of money in the grand scheme of things so far in his career, but something tells me that he needs that money.

If he does sit out, we'll just roll with what we've got and I'll pull for them just the same.

Witten will be playing for at least another 3-4 years, same for Romo if his health holds. We can implement that kind of system in that time frame.

Stephen Jones denies that Dez Bryant threatened to miss time

All along, we’ve said that until Dez Bryant himself threatened to miss games, the threat would seem hollow.

So as soon as it was reported this morning that he did just that, the Cowboys are putting out word he did not.

According to Ed Werder of ESPN, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones denied via text that Bryant had threatened to miss training camp or regular season games. Considering the original report said it happened in a conversation with Jones, now we have to wonder whether it was said and misunderstood, or not said at all.

Maybe Bryant did and maybe he didn’t, but at this stage, it’s clear the Cowboys don’t consider it a serious threat.

They have until Wednesday to sign Bryant to a long-term deal, and it’s hard to tell at this point where the posturing from either side is getting them.
