Neat info on Wade Phillips

What would it take for you to feel he was qualified for the job?

Some of you kill me with the Wade hate. You'd bring a guy in here like Shanahan or Cowher who you would have to allow 10-15 yrs to win a superbowl but you want to oust the current coash only 3yrs into his tenure? It doesn't add up.

Why would it take 10-15 years?

Oh, thats right. You're gonna use their history against them and then not do the same for Wade.

What's up with the hatred of Wade as coach?

Checking facts:
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/

- Wade is #35 all-time in win % (.589)
- Only Belichick and Andy Reid have a higher win % among active coaches
- Tim Landry? .607 (#28)
- Shanahan? .598 (#31)
- Parcells? .570 (#42)
- Jimmy Johnson? .556 (#52)
- Jeff Fisher? .542 (#60)
- Gruden? .540 (#64)

I'd at least wait for a losing season before calling for Wade's head.

What about playoff percentage?

All 8 of those coaches you listed has led his team to the SB.

Wade is 0-4 in the playoffs and there's the big difference.

I remember our old high school b-ball coach got in trouble for having this paddle that one of the students made for him in wood shop.

He used to come on the court during practice and tap it on the floor if the boys were getting out of hand.

And yes, he used it when necessary.

My high school's d coordinator/ health teacher had a paddle that he dubbed, "the board of education" and yes I was educated on a few occasions, lol.

Yes.

Hitting children with a weapon just screams appropriate "discipline".

Wade Phillips

In high school he was the starting quarterback and middlelinebacker

He has played football and coached football his whole life

He holds the record for most assisted tackles at the university of houston 228

When he was a high school coach he carried a padle to to whip kinds for punishment which was legal then

Was part of integration of schools in orange texas

Has served under buddy ryan, dan reeves, marty schotenheimer, bum phillips

assistants who are head coaches Jim Fassel and Tom cable

has a 66.8 percent win average with the cowboys and a 59.8 overall record

I just thought this was some neat info you can find must on the internet,
He should hit himself on the head with a paddle (that is legal, even today) for all the stupid penalties and other failures that his curent club is exhibiting. Win or lose, at least get the team playing like a team. The team should be drilled to be crisp, decisive and together. None of those is there now.

In junior high, one of our coaches had a guy in shop class make him one, too... And he had him put a hole right in the middle of it.

Why? "To make it more aerodynamic... And maybe even to take out a little piece of meat." :laugh2:

I'm guessing this doesn't go on anymore.:

And the world is definitely worse as a result.

Kids lack so much discipline now that it is sickening, I teach a couple of classes and I am amazed at the sorry caliber of students that are being produced. The only good  thing is that if I want to, I could probably work until I am 70, because there won't be any viable replacement for me. So sad for my company because I will be out of here at 55 but I will gladly make some cameo appearances via a nice consultant fee. :D

He's not a bad coach by any stetch of the imagination. I'd venture to guess his football knowledge would put most, if not all, posters here to shame. The guy knows football.

And yes, he has no had post season success in his career as a head coach. Hopefully that changes this year.

Hitting children with what amounts to a weapon is not "discipline".

I agree many of today's youths lack any sort of discipline, but if you can't raise a child, and discipline them without using what amounts to assault (i.e. if you did it to anyone BUT your own child you would be arrested for it) then maybe you don't deserve to have children.

Nice, it has been stated many times we all respect WP as a man and even as a DC-but not as the HC.

He should bust out the paddle again for penalties.

I don't think they make enough wood in the world to make enough paddles for the Cowboys' penalties. :)

Wow, man. A paddle is a "weapon"? Paddling a kid on the butt is "assault"?

I'm guessing you've never been paddled.

Au contraire. I've had the **** beat out of me plenty. We didn't evolve the ability to express ourselves vocally and think rationally just so that when our children get out of line we can hit them with a piece of wood.

By definition a paddle is a weapon, and yes - hitting a child with a piece of wood is assault. If a person doesn't possess the capability to readjust their child without physical harm, then that person should probably get a dog instead - only we would actually lock them up for hitting their dog - or at least take their dog away from them.

I think that's the issue.

There's a difference between being disciplined and having the crap beat out of you.

I'm sorry that you had the crap beat out of you.

What's the difference in the amount of beating you give a kid? If you hit a kid (at all) there are all sorts of bad lessons he could be learning (might makes right, violence is ok if other people aren't listening to you, etc) and only one lesson that could do any good - If I do this, I get hit. If your recourse as a parent is to generate a Pavlovian response in your child to keep it from getting out of line, then you're not a good parent.

I can see giving a small child a little swat with your hand to let them know you're serious - before they possess the mental capacity to reason on things. But once they develop that ability, hitting them is just lazy parenting.
