New Cowboy Broderick Jones Is A Lot Better Than People Think | Film Review

My hope is he can show enough promise this year to finally rid ourselves of Steele, but I dont have high hopes.

But it doesn't suck It leaves it open this guy is never gonna be good enough to command market money He might command a nice salary you know for a new deal but you don't want to have to be on the hook for his contract It's better that he's here on a one year prove it deal You can either cut ties or sign them to a reasonable contract..

This isn't George Pickens we're talking about This is a full tier or more below he is not commanding big money and there's no reason for him to leave once he's here if he's playing well they offer him a fair deal...
Yup.

Jones is UFA in March.

Someone will over pay. $$$

Gone.

Yeah I was looking at the play and that one he was talking about with number 55 on the pass rush and how the quarterback sidestepped it went to the right and had a big play That is exactly the same play that we saw in practice or camp or whatever it was in the scrimmage when Von Miller did that to Steel everyone said that would have been a sack no it wouldn't prescott saw it stepped up stepped to the side and hit a 25 yarder on the sideline so yes it does happen if you have a quarterback has pocket presents he can make up for some of them tackle issues..

But yes a lot of that video it shows that Jones needs some work but not as bad as being advertised so we will see what Adams can do with him and Riley can help him out...

But as a swing tackle I'm comfortable with him 'cause he's a veteran to come in and help..
I want some of those pocket presents please lol j/k

Years ago we adopted a bait dog that had shut down and just sat in his kennel shaking whenever a visitor walked by him. He was going to be killed. Soon as I seen those sad eyes on my FB feed I KNEW he was a nice doggy. We went to go see him and even though he had an infection in both ears, over 100 bite marks everywhere on his body, a large slash from a sharp object on his neck, plus what looked to be cigar burns on him, he quickly ran to us wanting us to adopt him. A lot of people said I was crazy that I thought I could rehabilitate him because I had no skills in that department. He was put in the right environment, and he turned out to be one of the best doggies I've ever had. He loved everyone. Dogs and cats too. A change definitely did him wonders. I'm so glad we took a chance on him. So yes, a change can do a lot of good for Jones.

Did I just compare a doggy to a human? Yes. How many times have we seen a sports player play better with another team? Heck look at George Pickens. A change of scenery did him good and it can do good with Jones too.

GO COWBOYS! :star:

p.s. Please don't be afraid to take a chance on a doggy at your local animal shelter. All our doggies turned out to be great additions to our family. They know and will remember where they came from.

He's not a swing. Smith moves to LT if there is an injury

We gave them our 3rd and 6th. They gave us their 4th. Draft slots haven’t been determined yet, so trying to minimize the cost to support the trade is weak sauce.
No one is trying to minimize the cost of the trade. It's just taking a realistic view of it. Cowboys will have a late 3rd. The Stealers will have a early/mid 4th. The difference will be maybe 20 spots.

Like I said, the Cowboys moved up half a round and gave up a 6th. Pretty reasonable deal for a player the Cowboys think can be a swing OT at the worst and potential starter who is still on his rookie deal.

When we sit on our hands for the entire third round and watch good players get scooped up, I doubt you will feel great about this trade

2027 is set to be the deepest draft in years, and our cupboard is looking pretty bare.

If Jones pans out, I will give you your props. A starting OT is more valuable than a 3rd round pick.

But if he turns out to be what he has shown himself to be since coming into the league, we just shorted ourselves in a big way in a deep draft and still have issues at OT
Apparently Dallas is a better franchise than Pittsburgh. Imagine saying that with a straight face.

and the “film review” is him playing against uber drivers in the final preseason game

More objective film review of his play in actual NFL games, before spinal fusion, show a more balanced view, and it’s not great.

Teams don’t give up on top 15 draft pick OTs who are still on their rookie contract if they are even average performers.
Hence why I've stated before on why they didn't just wait till cutdown day before giving up this kind of draft capital. No way he was going to make the 53. It's the continued arrogance to believe that JJ/SJ are smarter than everyone else in picking medically compromised players to gain an advantage in a deal hoping the player returns to their previous level of performance - and in your analysis, that thought is flawed since he wasn't that great before the injury. JJ/SJ also think they can duplicate the Pickens deal when Pitt was thinking the opposite to reoup for the bad deal they did with Pickens lol. Time will tell though... hoping he proves me wrong.

By that standard should we have ignore college tape and if so how do we evaluate college players?

Seems nfl preseason would be a pretty good way to gauge play?

I was down on trade because of his injury and conditioning. It just doesn’t look like a win now move. Honestly, his past performance calls into question if he’ll ever be a quality tackle.

Also, people are getting the trade cost wrong due to a reliance on hope, rather than history (and math).

Here’s how Sturm broke down the trade value.

Using 2026 prices, Dallas sent away picks 76 and 193 for Pittsburgh for 121. That means Dallas sent away 210 pts and 14.2 for a total of 224.2 points in exchange for 52 points. The net loss of 172 points or roughly pick No. 84 which is a mid-round 3rd.

Of course, for those predicting a Cowboy Super Bowl run and the Steelers drafting Arch Manning, the math will be different
I wonder how many 6th rounders make the team? I have no idea, but it seems that more free agent rookies make the team?

First of all don't be critical of my spelling grammar or my sentence structure because I use talk to text and I don't go back and fix it you knew what it meant but you want to start some trouble up here my middle name is trouble Pocket Presents See I even said it the proper way and somehow it spells it wrong pocket presents Nope it won't do it

See what I'm saying i'm literally using talk to text and it keeps spelling it that way

that way—pocket presence.

There you go I had to redo it But again you know what I was talking about the only thing good that you do in your pockets you need to keep to yourself we all know you got that problem keep your hands out of your pocket..

Thinking this kid sticks around for awhile. not because i think we can magically fix him and make him look like the monster at RT he was supposed to be coming out of Georgia. Hes gonna be cheap to extend and could really push Steele for his starting RT spot throughout the year. Just needs to be good enough to move on from Steele.

..relax fellas, trust the process.

Sometimes players just need change of scenery, state of mind benefiting from coaching and players around them.

Brod has size and speed, might need tech work with feet and hands.

I think he is He played both positions and you don't give up that kind of money We're talking about not just subbing in one game we're talking about if it's something more long term he may not like to go over to the other side but I think he likes the left side better I don't know I didn't read every comment but there was a comment he didn't like switching back and forth

Absolutely not man you guys gotta stop this keep up first of all Tyler Smith's already said he does not want to be a left tackle That is not the plan or it would have been instituted already he has a knee condition severe tendonitis in one of his knees,

He is not as mobile and he doesn't stay as healthy and 100 percent he has not been himself he does not need to be an open space with a hard kick and trying to get out on some of these guys he is not moving...

You can argue with me all the time but I keep up with the Cowboys 24/7 i've heard all the responses from the coaches the players he will not be the long term solution at left tackle That is why they have the depth chart with some of the other guys on this team being the depth at tackle but they just brought over another guy to the practice squad that at any time is gonna be brought up and this guy Jones they are both tackles they are both the solutions and again II can't say this enough Tyler Smith is not gonna be the left tackle unless it's a super emergency there's a difference between an emergency and a game day swing it means he stays at left guard in the swing tackle plays either position.

Those are facts and I'm not gonna argue with you..

You haven't noticed he has a real knee condition Tyler Smith is already on one of those veteran day off management if you haven't noticed that's his been his problem lately he's getting more penalties he's not himself.

But the reason they don't talk about it a lot because they don't want to keep alerting other teams that he has that problem that can flare up at any time..

It’s not that simple.

If we are picking late in rounds as you suggest, we will pick in the latter part of round 2 and not pick again until the mid to later part of round 4

That’s a lot of good players going by for the sake of taking a flyer on a guy that has produced more negatives than positives his career thus far

I think Khan would have gritted his teeth and kept him. Jones was Kahn’s very first pick as Steelers GM and he traded a fourth round pick to move up from #17 to #13

GMs tend to be hesitant to blatantly declare bust on first round picks. Look what we had to do to dump Mazi? Had to lump him into the Parsons deal.

Jones was graded a 1st round talent. Thomas, Steele, et cetera weren't.

Jones himself said he felt mismanaged With the Stealers. That won't happen here. The explanation he gave was a very reasonable one too.

Coaching matters and the Cowboys have great OL coaching too. A change of scenery and better coaching will make a difference. Yes he needs some work but like I said, I'll take his upside and let the Cowboys develop him.

You’re relying on draft pedigree that was clearly wrong. It happens every year; it’s not an exact science.

He’s been horrible his entire career in Pittsburgh.

You’re also taking liberty making a claim and hoping people believe you at face value insinuating the Steelers suck at developing o-line and positing that our current coaching staff has a history of successful reclamation projects.

And before anyone says Marc Colombo…that was 21 years ago and none of those offensive line coaches are here now.

Picking one preseason game, especially the third game, when you’re not even facing backup NFL players is the worst possible film to study.

Obviously coaches can, do, and should review college tape.

It could be argued that fans should not. At least they shouldn’t if they are going to use it as a basis for an opinion on a player they know nothing avout

I saw a content creator do film study on Jones and he went to PFF and pulled the top three rated games Jones played last season, that’s giving the guy the very best chance to “look good”. The results were still fair to middling. He didn’t even review the film of the games when Jones was terrible

They don’t think he’s a swing tackle. They’re sticking him at RT.

Beyond that, isn’t that what you’re claiming the Steelers did wrong in having him play both sides?
