Newman - how many have faith?

Newman is far from the best 2 or 3 in the league. He's a top 10, maybe at 9.

As far as Scandrick is concerned, he made play after play last year as a rookie.

Newman, for a top 10 pick should be scooping up INT after INT, or at least shutting his side of the field down at his age.

Exactly.

For the amount of pressure we put on the QB, you'd expect our top-flight corner to be making play after play.

There is always some excuse though with him, even when he was 'healthy' last year I didn't see the same guy I saw shut down Steve Smith twice. Especially against DeSean Jackson.

I like him for being a tough guy and playing through injuries, but very often I think he and we use that as an excuse entirely too much. You're our top shut down corner, we paid like you're one of the 5 best in the league - make a couple of plays please.

He missed 6 games last yr, but still had 11 passes defensed and 4 picks. Honestly he shouldnt have played in weeks 2-4 either, as it was apparent he wasnt right and then of course needed surgery. All his PD's and ints came when he returned from surgery, that was a total of 7 games.

Newman averages 15 PD's a yr, he has at least 4 picks in 4 of his 6 seasons. And he does this despite rarely being tested.

Know who got a total of one pick last yr and had only 9 passes defensed for an ENTIRE season? Or that the same player had no picks his first 3 yrs in the league and 2 other seasons with just 1? In 3 of his 6 seasons he has single digit passes defensed, Newman's never had such a low total. Wonder if you and some of these other boneheads would trash him out the way you guys do Newman?

.

Again, how many "plays" do you expect a CB to make when he's rarely thrown at?

Only as I have said MORONS fixate on picks. Newman prevents receptions and that is the #1 duty of a CB and pretty much no one does it any better. He stops big plays from happening.

Ya'll are acting like he's Prime or something.

Didn't see Philly get scared to throw his way with a rookie WR. Or Pittsburgh, when he gave several key passes, particularly one on 3rd down against Holmes that was a momentum turner.

But again, I'm just a moron, I only care about interceptions.

Somebody used to have a really cool sig showing all the top WR's T-new has shut down. It asked the question if he was a shut down corner. Anybody know who that was? It might have been on CF.com

I recall him shutting Steve Smith down twice.

Newman has had some big games and has shut down some of the best receivers in the league when our pass rush was a joke.

He didn't make a big play and nothing appeared in the stat column so bonehead Cowboy fan always will find a way to say he is overrated.

Terrence Newman is topsies in the league when it comes to covering the guy across from him and not allowing him to get his job done.

Who rarely makes any plays, so the braindead folks here would have to say he is overrated or stinks right?

He's had one season where he had more than one pick, and 3 where he had none.

The numbers dont lie dude, he doesnt get thrown at much.

How many passes did Philly and Pitt throw his way in those two games? 5 maybe?

And the two best plays against him were both unbelievable throws by the other teams QB. Give the other people some credit too.

When he's healthy.

As far as Scandrick is concerned, he made play after play last year as a rookie.

Scandrick had 4 pass deflections. 0 picks. 0 FF. That's hardly making "play after play".

Fun fact: Mike Jenkins made more plays than Scandrick in half the playing time.

Except for that Carolina playoff game. If we acknowledge the good, we have to acknowledge the bad.

You just brought up terrible memories. Richie Anderson's fumble. Quincy Carter trying to think.

To think, that team has gotten just as far as our 'talent-filled' squad has.

Its a playoff game. Who cares? We don't compete in those anymore.

Newman shut him down twice in the regular season, that's when it matters, for us.

LOL.... great comment.

I have complete faith in Newman..... When he's on the field. It's obvious that he can't stay healthy for more than a few games. If the injury problem is going to cause him to miss some games this year, it's going to be tough for the Secondary. We need to go out and get a couple veteran CB's. I trust Scandrick enough to help hold things together, but I'm really nervous about Jenkins due to lack of playing time. Coaches have a lot of confidence in these guys now that Anthony Henry is gone.
