Newman is the Biggest Weak Link

jenkins looked horrible sunday, i'm not sure what game you were watching. he made a few good plays, but had so many bad ones completely negating it. newman also played like ****. when we blitz our corners play off, makes no sense and is our biggest problem.

we really do have the dumbest fan base in football...its just freaking amazing

In case people people haven't noticed....

Quarterbacks are regularly completing twenty and thirty passes a week in the new NFL. Phillips is third in the league with a 102 qb rating---with a number of outstanding targets.

Every corner is going to get beat more than just a couple of times per game in today's pass-friendly landscape.

Jenkins played quite well. On a few occasions he was in great position but the QB-receiver combo was just too good.

Rivers QB rating is 103.7 but was limited to 89.6 on Sunday.

In case you hadn't noticed Rivers has been the single BEST Quarterback over the past 6 or 8 games. If you think because Jenkins got beat four, five or six times -- that this means anything...you aren't looking at what is the baseline for good corners around the league.

The Cowboys lost because they missed a field goal and couldn't punch it in from the 1. That and other missed opportunities are the bottom line.

On a couple of those plays, Jenkins had great coverage, but was beaten by a perfect throw and catch.

What isn't forgivable was the huge play Newman gave up in the first half. That was one of the biggest plays of the game, to say nothing of the one he gave up in the 2nd half, though it's hard to tell if the coverage mistake was the safety's.

Regardless, Newman is paid like an elite player, and he isn't one. At times, he's the guy the opponent picks on.

What an awful decision by Jerry Jones to give a 30 yr old CB a megacontract.

Newman should take notes from Jenkins on how to play CB in the NFL.

Newman is just another player on a long list of players that Jerry has vastly overpaid.

Hell, he shouldn't have ever been drafted with the fifth overall pick in the first place at 25 years old.

Jenkins more than held his own despite being locked up 1-on-1 on numerous occasions and the QB throwing darn near perfect passes.

In all honesty, Deion wouldn't have done any better yesterday and I say that in all sincerity. Jenkins was fantastic yesterday.

All I know is that he's killing us on 3rd downs and he's consistant at doing it.. On the flipside tho, Jenkins is flatout ballin....

Clueless........

That's been an argument for a long time on Cowboys boards (re: Newman's age at the time of the draft - I think he was actually 24, though).

I do agree Newman is overpaid but I don't know that he is vastly overpaid. It is hard to find a good CB in FA for $8M/year as that is the going rate. I think I had more issue with the length of the contract than the actual amount per year.

Newman's on the field play is fine, passable (no pun intended), but rumors of his off the field behavior and attitude are starting to make me wonder.

I LOVE threads like this , the same kind I saw for RW 1 & 2 - TNewman killed this football team on Sunday, bottomline - you cannot argue fact. The man was beaten on a lob 39yd completion on 3rd n 12- Ike Holt had more game.

It was dumb to swear this team was playoff caliber, and dumb to laugh at pessimists for doubting this team. Your mouth is stained with the kool aid, and you have the nerve to call other fans dumb for doubting our overpaid overrated cornerback that has visibly on the slide this year.

You're right, we do have the dumbest fanbase in football.

As much as I dog on Newman, he did pick six Delhomme week 3 to seal the game against Carolina.
Dont forget the pick he made against Washington in '07.

when did I "swear" they were playoff calibar? (forget the fact that right now, they are the last playoff team)...when have I ever laughed at pessimists?

as I mentioned in another thread, how bad has Newman been? How many completions do you think he's given up?

looked like that was some sort of zone coverage, where Newman turned the guy loose expecting deep help to alot of people, including me..

if thats the case, I dont know why Wade continues to call that style of coverage because our safeties rarely, if ever get there on time.

What rumors?

Come to think of it Ike Holt did have more game! Next year Newman definitely needs to go to the slot. Jenkins is far better at this point in his 2nd yr than Newman has ever been. Guess thats why Parcells had no interest in him at 5.
