We might or might not win the game, but the Saints certainly have not looked that great through three games, especially defensively.

And we're going to be beaten with that measuring stick and dumped on the curb with no cab fare.

We are 2-1, feeling pretty good. However, both of our wins have come against teams not considered playoff caliber in the Titans and Rams.

However, the Saints is a different story. Despite their 1-2 start, most of the media still considers them to be a playoff caliber team. This team is the same team that put 40 first downs on us last season.

If we can get past the Saints and with the Texans on deck, we could be looking at 4-1 start to the season. How many teams that start 4-1 make the playoffs? Probably 80% I would imagine, that bolds well for the Garrett backers.

I have said it from day 1, if Garrett can somehow just qualify for the playoffs (even if we lose in the first round), Jerry will give him an extension because "progress is being made". A 4-1 start would almost guarantee qualifying for the playoffs.
It will be an improvement because Garrett has been 2-3 after 5 games each of the past 3 years. Still with his teams that could happen again, but this year may be different.

You want to beat all the teams you should beat. Then, get better players.

This is actually one of the things I like best about JG as a HC. He wins all the games we should win. We've lost against good QBs because we can't keep them from passing more efficiently than we do.

That excuse may be ok if it was JG's second year. Not so much on his fourth year.

How do we beat the Saints?

Hope it gets wet and windy Sunday night and Jerry opens the roof for the game.

It's simple, if the offense doesn't play at a high level this sunday, they will have no chance to win.Actually the offense will have to play really well every week, or they won't win.

I am looking for an entertaining game. I do not expect a win. The Saints find wasy of beating us badly ... outplayed and outcoached.

I will not get upset if we lose. I want a solid game and for us to stay competitive. If we get killed ... so be it. Nothing new.

Not in this defense there isn't.

IT's basically us sitting off the receivers and not challenging anything they do.

Dallas at the very least could show the offense some things that makes them have to think instead of playing so basic all game and allowing QB's to play in a comfortable environment.

I don't think that's true. We play a lot SPs which is common core for most teams. I forget all the details but I seem to remember someone saying we played a lot of Nickel and Big Nickel. I know we play some man under as well as multiple common zones. We roll coverages at times. I've been promising myself to look at our coverages of stacked receivers but I just haven't done so. But all that is common fare for defensive teams. We do play a lot of 3 and 1 technique shooting the gaps which is fairly common but we don't AFAIK play a lot of shoot and hold. I haven't looked at how much we blitz or what types but we don't a lot although we certainly do blitz. I don't think we do a lot of exotic stuff.

I would agree, wouldn't knowing for sure, that a fair amount of the defensive play calling is subdued because of overall problems with rush, LBers playing with less experience, health issues with the DBs and inexperience with one of the safeties as well as weaknesses of certain players ie say playing man vs zone or bump and run.

We do a lot but much of what the league does these days is common fare and we are a tad limited in what we can do well and/or get away with due to talent deficits etc.

So to close the book on this bet, can I suggest that it's only for a week seeing as there will be a game the following week? I'd suggest longer if the 'boys were on a bye week.

Sure. That sounds fine to me. And would you mind being the 'authority figure' for it? To keep us on the up and up?

I dunno, there's been a TV on the Saints game where I've been watching the games and they don't look anything like they have the last several years.

Not sure what's wrong with them, but this isn't the well-oiled machine we're used to seeing. Or even close.

I'm thinking we might make them punt this year.

Can someone get a program so we can find out the Saints' punter's name so we can identify him if we do happen to see him?

LOL. Sounds like a pyrrhic victory.

If Garrett can start beating a team over .500 I wouldn't mind it either....but only beating losing teams doesn't say much for his coaching. His record speaks for itself

Titans were 1 and 0 when we beat them, I think that is a winning record but not sure my math is off. Defeated Philly last year who won the division with 10 wins. Let's be real is not like he hasn't beaten teams with winning records.

I do agree he needs some wins against great teams. Had Denver beat and they made the Superbowl. I'm not in to moral victories but this team has the talent to beat good teams, mistakes and bad playcalling has led to losses

Please tell me you aren't going back to 2010 to say look at what Garrett has done since? It has been four years. You also forget that 1-7 team was coming off a division championship AND the only playoff victory since 1996.

Yes I am, I can only go by when he became coach. To think he hasn't changed the entire roster almost completely is non sense. That 1-7 team coming off a playoff win last in the divisional round because the OL. Garrett has rebuilt the entire OL, RB, WR and TE position besides Witten. Defense had almost all new players as well. Why you think we are 4th youngest team in the league.

I get it let's just count last season and not Garrets entire head coaching tenure

way to set the bar low
I don't know if you realize that in the 3+ years with garrett as HC we have NEVER won 3 games in a row

yeah, this team "could" go on a 10 game winning streak:rolleyes:

LOL.......okay you took my post the wrong way. I twas a hypothetical not a guarantee. History is just that. History. A 3 game win streak would be GREAT. But in the scheme of things if we lose what does it actually do? It ruins our season? That's my point.

Exactly.............at some point Garrett has to actually beat somebody if he wants an extension. Beating the Titans and Rams of the NFL is nothing special, we all know Garrett's record against scrub teams is outstanding. However, we all know that his record against playoff caliber, above 500 teams is laughable.

That needs to change this year and the Saints are a good start. And don't tell me they are invincible, they lost to freaking Cleveland..........................they are beatable.
