NFCCG: Cardinals-Panthers Thread

You're replying to me. If something that harmless makes you mad and have you go on emotional rants like this so easily, you probably shouldn't discuss things on a message board. But you may have the last word. Oh and we still have a terrible coach while Carolina has a great coach.

and you still whine like a *****.

Not necessarily. Racism is not that simple. Here's an analogy I used to know (and one I used to hear). White people would point to the fact that they're not racist because they have a friend who is black or their nanny was black. And my response to them is, "What does that prove?" Racism isn't just about you liking a person of another race. It involves your reaction when one can exercise authority over you or when they exhibit a culture or a way of doing things that isn't in line with how you would do it.
I know plenty of whites who I talk with, and we're friendly towards one another. And then when I umpire their baseball games, you see the resent towards my authority because I have to ability to determine whether their team wins or loses.
So racism isn't simply people not wanting to watch the game, nor can you conclude that because people like to watch blacks play they're not racist.

How is Aaron Rodgers' "Discount Double check" not arrogant?
Second, you may not see it as the same, but others do. Could it be that you can't see the commonality because of your own conditioning?

It's kind of interesting to hear people (not necessarily you but others I speak with) who arrogantly cheer on their team, bad mouth other teams and brag arrogantly about their team, but it's suddenly wrong for Norman or Sherman to act the way they do because it's arrogant.

Now I'd prefer the Barry Sanders attitude also. But I recognize that people aren't all the same, and they may not see their celebrations as arrogant.

Well said sir.

People don't want to accept it but there is a reason the league voted to bad the TO type of TD celebrations. The majority of fans find it classless and disgusting. It hurts the brand...Cam Newton will make the owners tighten the rules even more. People can accuse others of racism or whatever but the fact is people in general find it classless and will start to tune out if it continues.

A bunch of emotionless androids is going to draw more ratings while characters with attitude turn viewers away?

My conditioning?
You are assuming I am white...

Take a guess what my handle Superonyx means...a hint...onyx is black.

I edited my post. Social conditioning doesn't necessarily mean race.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Yes...the game is the product people are tuning in to see.
The ugly arrogance detracts from the product and shifts the focus to the ugly.
People watch football because the game is the ultimate chess match...it's physical and super competitive. When someone starts running away from celebrating teammates and makes it about themselves it makes people look away with disgust.

I'll speak for myself with respect to the race issue. Someone said the criticism of Newton has NOTHING to do with race. I said some people don't like him doing it because of race, but that doesn't mean everyone does.

Then the conversation morphed from there. I only took exception to the HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RACE comment. I'm okay with this being a discussion on whether end zone celebrations are classless or not.

I like Cam Newton waaaay more than Aaron Rodgers......That's all I got to say about that.

I don't like newtons antics, but he seems like a guy u could approach in public, where Rodgers seems like he.d be an awesome person and 'big time' you

It seems like the Carolina Panthers fans like it. And, apparently, many in the audience like it.

But it will soon fade like the Lambeau Leap fascination.

I think people are treating Denver too lightly. It's different defending the Pats and their quick throw offense to their receivers than it is the Panthers. I think it will be a close game because I think Phillips is a guy who can scheme a defense against any team. Blowouts occur easily enough when you force the other team's QB to turn it over six times. If Denver doesn't turn it over I think it will be a good game.

Isnt saying someone is repetitive and whines like a ***** 100 times lathered in a little irony?

It is. Teeming with it, actually. Fortunately, I'm not above irony but your point is well taken. I'm done for now.

I agree with most of what you said...
I just see people's reaction to a player acting arrogant and know I would be very unhappy if my 3 sons acted this way. The emotion and celebrations are a good thing. Maybe I am getting old because I prefer players showing respect for fellow athletes, fans, and the sport over narrsacistic displays.
