1) cable sux folks...DirecTV just kills them in every way

2) if all else fails, go to a sports bar

David

If it were not for my Cable Net provider I would switch.

But sorry I have seen the different, in my area at least, between Cable net and DSL.

Cable just kills in this area.

But I am about ready just to split that up now.

Our local Cable Company (charter) was bought out by another Cable Company (suddenlink) and they are really crappy with how they are doing things IMO.

We had the total package, all the movie channels and top net level....called it something like the leadership package.

So we basically got all the channels except for ESPN Classic and NFL Network.

Now this new company is wanting to actually charge more money per month for the cable service while at the same time taking away channels that we were getting before.

I am seriously thinking about getting direct TV and just keeping the cable ISP.

No satellite net provider in your area? I went that direction when we moved out to the country. Does suck in bad weather though.

Yes you can get the Sat net but it is overpriced and honestly it is just not that good compared to the cable IMO.

No way it's as good as cable but when dialup is the only other choice sat is a Godsend. I'm actually paying the same for Sat net as I was for Cox Cable net. Direct TV is sure higher than Cox cable TV though having 5 boxes in the house.

I hear what you are saying and agree with you. My cable company (Cablevision) doesn't carry the NFL channel, but I have DirectTV's Sunday ticket (I only have Sunday ticket, not the DirectTV package), so I get the NFL channel there.

Sounds like you paid more for a sports tier package to get the NFL channel ? Now at the last minute NFL changed the rules and you won't get it ? That would bite compared to just getting it on a "normal" package and have it taken away.

Maybe you could take legal action ? I with you bro and feel your pain...Sounds like the problem is one that could grow, the NFL channel has a monopoly on these games, now that they have started the raise their rates 800% ??? Lets all hope that this isn't a sign of the future. As years go by and they get more games, then raise their rates accordingly.

I could see the Superbowl becomming a pay per veiw event in the future on their channel, $50-$100 bucks maybe ? Rex, this could just become the beginning...
The real truth is that the change was made when the nfl added the games to the package, but his local cable company decided not to tell him until now and are weasling out of the blame by trying to say its a recent change.

Yes I agree...I hate working on some of the relatives computers that have dial up...drives me up the wall if I have to download a driver or something.

About the the multiple boxes...we have two cable boxes now, both DVR and it is added to the bill (like renting the boxes) but I don't think it is too much.

Another thing that bothers me about Sat tv vs our cable is the On Demand channels like HBO/Showtime, Movie channel and stars.

I really like the on demand service so I can just go and look through the list of movies or shows on the movie channels and watch them whenever I feel like it.

Really nice when there is a series and you can go back and watch the full season one episode after another.

I thought direct TV had that but my wife's grandfather has direct tv and his service did not have it.
