Fuzzy, if you can't figure it out don't blame me.

You mean figure out that having dreads doesn't make you a thug anymore than baggy clothes do? Means that wearing those things doesn't make you 'earn' dying?

I imagine you don't know the difference between Mobb Deep and Guru.

Stereotyping people because of how they look is not cool for any reason. Saying they 'earn' death is contemptible.

Its part of the image thing. And for the idiots that have to rant against Goodell, it would be nice to see if they could read well enough to notice that this came from the Chiefs, not the Commish.
Gangster Rap truly embodies gangster behavior. That is how they look, and judging from the number that have been shot and killed, they have earned it.
So some in the League do not want to have the league in any way identified with that element.

The fact that you have the balls to call people idiots and then close it out the way you did is the definition of irony.

Nothing however people still continue to be stereotyped. It is a stereotype that is common in America whos fault it is really doesn't matter. My grandmother used to neer allow me to wear doo rags or sag my pants outside of my outside because she felt it was poor representation of my self and made me look like a thug. You can't stop people from thinking the way that they think dreads is very common among the black community however when it comes to getting a job it is almost required for you to have a low cut ceaser (a real job atleast) There is no point in even trying to breakdown the stereotypes people have about another person because you will have an idea of a person based of what they wear and you will perceive someone to be a thug if they have white T baggy jeans and dreads the same way it will be preceived that a girl is loose if she where's short skirts and belly shirt. I am not directing this towards anyone nor do i want someone to respond hey i'm not like that i don't pre judge people i just using you as a general term and i am in no way trying to point out anything about anyone when the only thing that i know about most of you guys is that yall are cowboys fans.

Are you serious? You are a very confused individual.

You're right, everyone man should wear a crew cut and every woman should wear turtle necks and skirts to their ankles.

Seems like every year, we have one of these threads pop up.

Maybe I should start one where cheerleaders should actually wear outfits that look more than like two band aids.

Not to mention "gangsta rap" has been dead for a while. Gangsta rap fell off in around 96-97. NWA was the group that introduced it into mainstream.

Anyone who thinks gangsta rap is still around hasnt heard of the Soulja Boys of the world apparently.

Truthfully i'd much rather hear that then "crank dat" and "ya ***** ya".

We need more Lupe Fiasco, Common, Talib Kweli's.

This thread is pretty humorous in my opinion though. It just shows a lot of you still judge from old standpoint and not modern views.

You can easily think someone looks like a thug based on a look but you will be incorrect a large amount of the time.

People make judgements based on appearance all the time. It's noble to say that if you walk past a man with corn rows, gold teeth, large chains, baggy clothes, tattoos, etc that you would just as soon assume that he's a successful businessman as you would assume that he's a drug dealer, but that is quite bluntly a load of horse ****. Your guard is up, and for good reason. That reaction is built into us to protect us.

Some comedian has a funny bit about seeing a woman in a mini skirt, tiny shirt, really high heels etc, and somehow they get to the point where she says "I am not a *****". His response is "Maybe not, but you're wearing the uniform."

The NFL as a company has the right to set a dress code for their employees. They've already decreed that the hair is part of the uniform. They would seem to be well within their rights to regulate hair length if they chose to, in an attempt to improve the league's image.

I don't think that's a problem they have to worry about though. Alot of guys with the dreds and long hair are really standup guys, like Polamalu and Barber.

This is probably just a lot of nothing.

You guys do realize this is a job where you dress up in brightly colored uniforms and hit other grown men for a few hours, right? That people have had their bones broken, ligaments torn, dirt kicked in their eyes and so on? This is not a fortune 500, desk jockey job that you do till you're 65. And you're worried that their hair is too long?

They clean up the image by requiring clean, uniforms. Certain shoes and sock colors and combinations. Jerseys tucked in. Etc. Already.

It's also a billion dollar industry that gets alot of pressure from sponsors. So I can see why the NFL would consider this. I don't think they should, but image matters alot - maybe even most.

I could possibly understand them saying no hair covering the name but nothing else even though I can't see that happening.

Hmm.

Funny nobody got upset when the league proposed to ban comb overs.

I could care a less about hair length.

What I care about it is the coaches' dress coad.

You can't wear a suit, tie and hat like Landry used to, but you can dress like Belichick who looks like a homeless man hanging around the dumpster behind Denny's.

maybe we should get a tie that comes out from the shoulder pads and down the front the proper length.

maybe arami should make different colored suits for the different teams big enough to hold the pads.

and then we can focus on THE SHOES! patent leather w/a 1/4" heel and we'll get shoeshine boys on the sidelines in case one gets scuffed.

I say make em cut that stuff off. The length of it is getting out of hand and i think it makes the game look bad.

On the opposite end of the 'appearence is everything' spectrum comes the words from the great philosopher Frank Zappa:

Q: "So Frank, you have long hair. Does that make you a woman?"

A: “You have a wooden leg. Does that make you a table?"

Just sumthin to think about.

The military has a dress code for hair and facial hair (you can have a mustache but it has to meet requirements to)

Most Police and Fireman also have this type of restrictions funny how guys put there life on the line for peanuts have to follow a stricter Hair policy than guys making millions and people are whining about it.

Simple if you do not like it go get another job that allows it. Start your own business what ever I do not care. If they do not like the rule they have options

theres no need for them not be able to follow a dress code if they get paid so much hell the league should fine micheal strahan and dat gap he has i can't stand that garbage.

Explain to me how i am confused.

If Goodle wants the imagine of the NFL to look good how can he do that when guys are running around in dreads. You might not want to take it for what it is but people relate dreads to being a thug and it's even worse when the poster bad boy in the nfl has dreads .

That's the truth right there. It's all about money, and not player money, but executive money.

No, IDIOTS relate dreads with being a thug.

What rule? Their job DOES allow it. This is a proposal to change that rule, which is a lot different from entering the job with the rule already in place.
