K so if your needing surgery and the best doctor has dreads you will pass for a more "uniform efficient" doctor?

You sure you want that "thug" operating on you even though his heritage leads back to long hair?

It's especially peculiar bc a lot of you were alive in the 60's and 70's when long hair was the thing. But I guess when it's you personally it's not thuggish. It's only other people.

Lol, seriously?

Cops, soldiers and firemen are far underpaid but then again... A lot of people can become one of those, not many can become a professional athlete. And we as fans determined what their pay rate would be by accepting some large prices for games.

Its not to say officers etc. aren't worry of it. But you as an american citizen have the right to do a ride along with an officer on a regular basis ( and take it from me it not nearly as impressive as the fifth row seat of a playoff game)

Also I think a cop with longer hair would still warrant just as much respect, but maybe thats just me. It's not a fashion show, if a cop pulls me over he could have a jerry curl for all I care, I still respect the law and the outfit, the same way a fan should respect a team or uniform.

Luckily the worst we have is MBIII whom most of us adore.God forbid we have an Al Harris b/c then you would hear nothing but how unfair it was to do so.

Wait a minute last see you are assuming I care about long hair one way or another I never stated my stance on long hair. If you know the truth I give a rat arse different if you grow it long.

What I stated is that it is no big deal a dress code is a dress code even changed dress codes. There is precedents for dress codes and if people in the armed forces and the Police;firemen etc can deal with a dress code for 1000's of dollars so can multi millionaire players.

See you made an assumption about me hating long hair which I never clarified one way or another. Look if the dress code changes deal with it or go get a new job it is that easy. I worked at a job for years required me to wear a shirt and tie everyday even Fridays so be it I followed the Dress Code. I worked in the Military where I had hair restrictions My brother law like to have a beard but he has been a cop for years upon years so he has to shave instead.

Funny how the players get fined for the wrong color socks having socks to low and a ton of other uniform violations. This is just another one

Why would they create this new rule?
They already have the horse collar rule in place after playing successfully without the rule for how many years????
If you want to watch an intimidating defense you have to watch college games now!:bang2:
There will be a horse collar rule in college next year.

What do firemen or cops have to do with anything? These guys arent cops, they arent hired like cops are, don't work in a capacity similar to cops, or anything of that nature.

Fishermen don't have a dress code. They can look however they want. If its good enough for fishermen then it should be good enough for NFL players.

Whether or not you like it or approve of it, there is a players union and that union is there to support the players and their wants. If the players, who are independent contractors btw, want to be able to have tattoos, dreads and whatnot then they have the right to bargain to keep that. It just so happens there is a clause in the CBA that says the league cant do this so its pretty cut and dry.

Wouldn't it be dangerous for a fireman to have long hair? Same with cops and the military, so I don't see how well you can compare them to NFL players. It is not a straight comparison to say if these guys can do it, then NFL players should be held to the same standards. And there is more than just it can be a job hazard. There are plenty of reasons why the military, police forces and firemen have an appearance standard.

Plus it is always hard to compare pro athletes to real world people. We all know that there are different sets of rules for these guys.

Do guys with long hair really present a bad image for the NFL? I don't think so. I don't like long hair for myself, but I could care less if a player wears his hair long. When you can name pretty much all the guys in the league with long hair right off the top of your head then it isn't running rampant in the league. I also don't see it is hurting the NFL's image. They are still selling their product very easily.

Troy Polamalu wears his hair long because it is part of his Samoan culture. I doubt the NFL would want to risk getting into a tift about not letting a player express a part of his culture. It could be a slippery slope. Would they tell Tony Gonzales not to do ads or promotions for the NFL in Spanish?

It's a privilege, not a right to play in the NFL. So the owners and the league can tell the players to cut their hair if they decide to do that, just like the NBA enforced a dress code.

Too bad if a player doesn't like it. They can go find another league to play in where they can wear their hair long.

That's the reality of it and arguing about it until the end of time doesn't change that reality.

It is a dress code some times it is for safety sometimes it is for uniformed look.

If they want they can go become fisherman if they do not like the dress code. The NBA added a dress code for Jackets on the sideline for all players not dressed out to play.

Many teams have a Dress Code teams for when they travel in the NFL. So spin it how ever you want yes they can implement a Dress Code including Hair length when in uniform.

The players can get over it like everyone else that has to follow a Dress code or go get a job that does not require it.

The change would still allow for some long hair the hair is just not allowed to cover the name on the back of the Jersey is what is being proposed by the Chiefs.

Keep spinning it guys how ever you want if they have to cut there hair what ever.

It is not a slippery slope of any type when it comes to hair and a dress code

It's about advertising dollars $$ , plain and simple!! You see guys like Peyton Manning in the commercials. Notice you don't see Randy Moss in many commercials.

Image is extremely important in this society and a clean cut, wholesome image sells in middle America and the other look does not.

Also, it has nothing to do with race either. Michael Jordan is the most popular pitch man of all time because he presented the right image.

The NFL is very concerned about it's image and dread locks and long hair aren't good for the image. That's the bottom line.

People can cope with all kinds of things and dress codes are insignificant in that regard. i don't see why that matters.

Youre the only one thats spinning. the players dont have to deal with anything. The CBA and the union prevent the NFL from being able to do this.

I say Tiger Woods is about to pass op MJ in that regard. Tiger has his name on Gatorade bottles now that is some stout marketing power there.

Yes Tiger has the clean cut imagine as well

They have no power if they get it is labeled as part of the uniform they have no say it the department period.

If the players had any power in that area they would not being fined because they where black socks instead of white socks or they where cleat a over cleat b

I did not say race. I said culture.

Randy Moss doesn't do much advertising. It is not because of his hairstyle. If Peyton Manning started letting his hair get a little longer, then he would probably still be in a lot of ads.

I understand it is about money. A handful of guys having long hair has not hurt the NFL nor will it prevent the NFL from making even more money. Long hair is not bad for the NFL's image. It is kind of silly to think that a small percentage of players sporting long hair will actually hurt the bottom line. It just isn't the case.

I agree it's about culture, but many times there obviously is a connection between the hair and the culture. Not with every player, (MB3 being the best example--you couldn't ask for a better teammate and person), but you notice Pacman has gotten rid of his locks now that he's trying to clean up his image.

if you live the lifestyle because of the lifestyle then yes, it's an issue for you and those around you. unfortuantely this is where people will stereotype vs. take an individual at face value.

This is a pretty bad and irrelevant idea. They should be more strict about suspensions for off-field incidents if they want to improve their image.
Agreed. Who's running the show...Steinbrenner?? Like it or not, it's just hair. They said they don't want it to obscur a player's name. Uh, who doesn't know that's Troy Palomalu's frizzy fur hanging out of that Steelers helmet?

Agreed...Goodell and the league should do more to punish those that ..oh say...are caught cheating?

I think that it is nice when players have longer hair. It kind of makes them different from everyone else, and makes them look more laid back. Could be because I also have long hair, but it is just hair, so who cares how long it is.
