This would allow us to keep Uncle Rico - then put him on IR for a later designated return once concussion protocol is no more.

I think it bears mentioning that we're 28th on the waiver wire chart. So if a player is cut, we have to hope a lot of teams pass on the player for us to get a chance. And chances are, if a player makes it to us, they probably aren't going to be great.

Now, I'm not sure if a player like TJ Ward has to pass through waivers. He'd really help the secondary, but I really think our coaches want to stick with the guys we have. I honestly think we'll be looking for depth guys at OL if we are looking for anyone at all.
vested vet, he doesn't go through waivers. free agent

A vested veteran only goes through the waiver system from the trading deadline in midseason through the end of the season. During the offseason and all the way up to the trading deadline, a vested veteran gets released.
