News: NFL making changes to game ball security procedures

FACT: Even after warming up, 3 of the 4 Colts balls still measured below the legal limit of 12.5 on at least 1 of the gauges - despite their initial pressure being 0.5 PSI higher.

The Colts balls did decrease, but had time to warm up at halftime before they were measured. Check out the infographic on the previous page to see what I mean.

So when the Patriots said the ball-boy referred to himself as "the Deflator" because he was a big guy who wanted to lose weight, did you believe them?

They cheated, period. It's clear as day to any non-biased, reasonable person who read the texts/phone records in the Wells Report. The PSI specifics in the Colts game shouldn't exonerate them from the mountains of circumstantial evidence that the Wells Report uncovered. Punish the repeat offenders and don't look back.

The league will be measuring the balls at halftime of randomly selected games. It is not clear what number of games will be randomly selected (i.e. 1 a week, 3 a week, etc...)

Unless the pats play a double header, im guessing it will frequently be 1.

Sounds like this is the way it should have been the entire time.

Indeed. I couldnt believe it was possible for something like this to happen...even though it seems as if it didnt happen.

Translation: "It doesn't matter that the balls were within range of where science says they should be, they're guilty guilty guilty!!!"

It's really pretty sad how desperately people cling to months-old text messages taken out of context while completely ignoring the actual real, scientific evidence.

DERP accurate sciences!

You didn't answer my question. Here it is again: Did you believe the Patriots "the Deflator" explanation? That the guy called himself that because he wanted to lose weight?

Why would 2 ballboys text about deflating footballs for Tom Brady in exchange for gifts, and what reason would Tom Brady have for spending hours talking to a ballboy after the story broke? Why wouldn't Brady cooperate with the investigation?

Circumstantial evidence is evidence too. This isn't a criminal case where it must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. "More probable than not" is enough, and only a dope could read those texts/phone records and not reach the OBVIOUS conclusion that they've been cheating the system. Get a clue.

I honestly don't know what he meant. One of the text messages sent by Jastremski's friend in the middle of Green Bay game said "Deflate and give somebody that jacket." Tell me how the word "deflate" refers to footballs in that context.

Really.... Looking over years of text messages and phone calls, and that's the best they found??? He called himself "the deflator". Never said anything about deflating below the legal level, never said anything about deflating after the balls have passed inspection, never said anything about Brady telling him to deflate, and the physical evidence shows no deflation took place (beyond what the laws of physics say should have taken place). Just a guy who used a workplace term in a strange way. That's it. That is so weak as to be laughable.

This is a ridiculous question. You have a story about football gaining national steam. Why in the world would you think Brady wouldn't call the equipment guy to figure out what the hell was going on???
Why wouldn't Brady cooperate with the investigation?
Uh gee, I wonder.... one of the most famous athletes in the country, who happens to be married to one of the most famous women on the planet, didn't want to provide his personal communications to the leak factory of the NFL.

Only a dope could look at balls that are in range of where they are supposed to be according to those silly little laws of physics and conclude they were illegally deflated.

They did that in response to complaints from some player. Trying to remember who it was that lobbied the league for that change.
Brady and Manning lobbied for it, with the support of every starting QB in the league, and it really doesn't have anything to do with Deflategate for those of us who understand the rule change. "That change" (as you call it) is one of the most misunderstood things in this whole discussion.

OLD RULE: Home team breaks in all gameday balls
NEW RULE: Home team prepares their gameday balls, road team prepares their own

Tell me, which rule do you think makes more sense? Do you think it makes more sense for Romo to prep his own balls (insert joke here) for road games, or to force him to use whatever, for example, the Giants equipment manager gives him?

between this thread and the one in the NFL zone poor Rogah is looking like something the cat dragged in, threw up on, then got thrown in the garbage.

what would really be fair (a definition you need to look up) would be for the NFL to prepare all the balls the SAME WAY and randomly give them out during the game so NO ONE GETS AN ADVANTAGE. Something you cheaters could never understand.

We all know you disagree with me, but could you please refrain from the personal attacks so that those of us who want to discuss this issue can discuss it without the thread being closed? TIA

There are 32 starting quarterbacks in the league that would vehemently protest such a system. I would have no problem if they made that change, but the QB's of the NFL would. As I mentioned in another post, they literally spends weeks, if not months, prepping gameday balls to get them precisely to their liking.

By the way, if each team is allowed to prep their own balls, then how in the world does that give any one team an advantage??
