Dallas is never sigining Maio Williams, he's a defensive end in a 4-3 scheme...

I don't want Spencer here for one year, let alone a long term deal. Just what we need, Signing Bennett back, a second round bust!!

If you need to panic just let it all out, Susan, just try not to swoon if the bodice is too tight.

It depends on what the club decides to do with the options avaiable. We can still create $20 to $25m in cap space its just that next year will see us lose less that $27m off the cap. Its not the end of the world and we can still do quite a bit.

The thing that gets me is that Goodell waited until the last day to do this to the two largest franchises in the NFL. That tells me he is expecting some blowback but is trying to handcuff the two clubs responses.

The clubs themselves have made no statements yet have they?

No, because their statements I imagine will be issued in a court of law this summer.

Less cap room, lesser chance of big FA signings and a whole lot of rueing.

This hurts, but the Skins are the ones who really got reamed... after pissing away a boatload of draft picks, necessitating that they be active in free agency, the league has not hamstrung their ability to be as active as they needed/wanted to be...

Mario can play several positions on D, and strictly saying he can only play in the 4-3 just isn't true. Bottom line is you need talented players in any scheme to be successful, and that is what he would bring.

As for Spencer, I don't think anyone is just in love with bringing him back, its just a matter of if we can find anyone better.

My only point was while it upset me to hear all of this stuff, and it does limit us, we aren't totally screwed. We still can do some things, just can't go overboard signing everyone under the sun.

Now if I was a Foreskin fan, then I would be ready to drink antifreeze.

There goes our off-season...again.

All this means is the Boys will be able to sign one fewer free agent this year, another next year... there will be moves made...

SB, question for you.

Given that the Skins made an agreement with the Rams but before the league season started, and it was a "verbal agreement" from what I can make out, IF the Skins wanted to back out of the deal, could they?

That said, I don't think they will.

"all this means"?

you act like two free agents isn't a big deal.

Regardless of what they do, they need to do it fast. If they accept the terms the league is offering in how to spread out the hit then in essence they would be undercutting any lawsuit. If they do not then they are at a disadvantage.

if there is an option to defer it all until 2013 then i would take that and file lawsuit in the meantime. The league approved the contracts.

Goodell also united Snyder and Jones against him. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I don't know the details. All I know is Shefter just said on ESPN that what the Cowboys did with the contracts is against the rules. Whatever was against the rules, looks like we now have another wasted off season. This franchise is quickly turning into a complete mess.

Gawd, I hate "fans" who give up this easy... overreact much??

It has been speculated that we had the ability to create up to 25-30 million in cap room this offseason for free agency... so worst case scenario, we now have 15-20 million... that's still enough for 2-3 quality free agents...

And if the reports are true, the Boys don't have to eat all of that 10 million this year, they can split it up into two chunks, one hitting next season (when we'll have a large chunk of dead money coming off the cap)... for all I know, they might be able to put all of it off until next season (though if they can, I don't think I would)...

All this means is we're going to be a little less active in free agency this year... which sucks, but it ain't the end of the world, the way you and a few others are acting...

Courage, Camille...

Why would you cancel Sunday Ticket over this? The Cowboys weren't kicked out of the league.

The question is why would you keep it, when you're so completely certain that we're doomed?? Have you got some kind of masochistic streak, do you enjoy making yourself miserable??

The smart thing is to push it until next year and then fight it in court... with he cap rising the next year, it would be less important...

I find it very interesting that both Dallas and Washington have not released any statements on this.

Cowboys lose $10 million in cap space, Commanders lose $36 million in space. Can split it over 2012 and 2013 any way they want. More at ESPN.

If they can split it any way they want, put it all off until 2013... that's when there's 20 mil plus in dead money coming off of the cap anyway... the only downside is that would mean they couldn't maximize the number of players signed this offseason by structuring deals so that the bulk of the cap hit came in 2013 (thus minimizing the hit in 2012)...

From the earlier reports, it seems that the Cowboys want to split it evenly over two years. Maybe because they weren't intending to use all the money anyway this year? Or maybe they can change their minds during the FA process as opportunities present themselves and take the entire charge next year?

Anyone still think we have a chance at Nicks, Mario, and Carr? lol.... Carr IF we are lucky. Kiss Nicks and Mario goodbye! Freaking sucks!

You're overreacting...

I mean, yeah, this freakin' sucks... but if the reports are correct, Jerry can choose to push all of this 10 million off until next offseason... so it might not have any impact at all on this offseason... I'm not sure I'd do that, I think I'd try to split it up pretty close to 50-50 this season and next season... so that might mean adjusting our hopes for this offseason downward a little...

A little...

Really, there are a lot of people in here who would benefit from not posting until they've had a chance to read, and understand, all of the ramifications of a development... this penalty makes no sense, and it will hurt some, but it's not the offseason-killer some of y'all are making it out to be...

actually here is the statement from the Skins...

This is the official statement of Commanders general manager Bruce Allen on recent media reports of an adjusted salary cap for the 2012 season:

“The Washington Commanders have received no written documentation from the NFL concerning adjustments to the team salary cap in 2012 as reported in various media outlets. Every contract entered into by the club during the applicable periods complied with the 2010 and 2011 collective bargaining agreements and, in fact, were approved by the NFL commissioner’s office. We look forward to free agency, the draft and the coming football season.”
