NFL Radio - Dallas is 3rd most dysfunctional team in NFL

Probably nothing. But Jerry is such a huge part of the equation you cannot simply take him out.

He created a circus of a game experience that draws heavy scrutiny from NFL purists and he is too stubborn to realize that he is the problem.

Edit: Oh yeah. Dez Bryant is also a criminal. /sarcasm

Yep. I don't know about 'one of the most dysfunctional' teams, but the owner brings enough dysfunction with him that it's a competitive disadvantage. That's really enough in a league where you have to minimize mistakes and limit big risks. Jerry's willingness to spend money and desire to win help us out, but the meddling with the staff and the swinging for the fences really hurts.

Again - what are those advantages?

I've seen this question brought up a few times, not just by you. But Jerry had the right idea. The Cowboys are a national brand and an elite franchise with regard to the history of the NFL.

The potential for marketing is great with the Cowboys. Endorsement deals are more likely with the national spotlight. I mean, think how big Romo was once he burst on the scene in '06.

All in all, I think if someone had to pick between Buffalo and Dallas all things relatively the same, they'd pick Dallas.

We have the ability to have the best everything and we don't take advantage of it.

Our facilities are great.. Our scouting and coaching is bottom of the barrel.

With the money that Jerry Jones makes we should have the best everything.

Plus... A lot of these teams still don't spend as much as we do because they can't afford to pay their roster what we can.

I think you are misinformed. Everyone's cap number is the same. Again if you want to grouse about the cap management then I'll have your back up to a point.

We have good scouts. We are drafting better and I expect that to improve even more.

Whether by their choice or not I cannot remember the last time I saw a Cowboy in a national commercial advertising anything. Maybe I'm having a brain freeze but I can't.

How is being able to afford the best coaches and front office an advantage over teams like Jacksonville and Buffalo? Really?
Point is, Jax and Buf or however aren't exactly struggling to pay their coaches. I'd say that the huge amount of turnover they have had is probably more expensive than just keeping one guy.

Every team can afford the coaches that they want.Seattle, for instance, has the 17th largest media market but Pete Carroll has the third highest salary among head coaches.

It's been a while because there hasn't been as much success. But ask yourself this? How many more national commercials were there for us in our dynasty days vs the amount for the Pats in theirs?

I think the last national ad I can really remember were the Pepsi ads with Romo. Then Wade, Romo and Jerry and that yawning commercial. And I think that Papa John's commercial with a dancing Jerry was national, but I'm not 100% sure. I fairly certain the others aren't, but I think that one was an exception.

A successful Cowboys team is a better marketing vehicle than most teams with the same success. I think the Packers are probably the only other team on that level [discount double check].

The dynasty days were way before my time.

Might not hurt having by far the richest owner, too.

OK, we are bad.
Just not that bad.
I'd put us . . . hmmmm . . . at No. 16, in the middle of the pack where we belong. Where we seem destined to stay. Mediocre, yes, right in the middle.

Looking at Dallas' history after the last Super Bowl justifies the statement. Parcells was the only bright spot. Just think of Dallas win/loss stats if he didn't coach the team.

If Parcells was the only bright spot . . . i just never knew we half been this bad since the mid 90s.

He's actually 6th in line. We're the most valuable franchise by far (half billion dollar difference between us and the next team), but Paul Allen is far and away the most wealthy.

He's worth a little over 5 times as much as Jerry, and 3 times more than the next guy in line, Stanley Kroenke (rams).

I hear ya, but I really think that is urban legend. Time moves on. The 'marquee' Dallas Cowboys no longer carry enough cache to lure a player here over any other place in the NFL. The Cap changed that in 1992.

Now, if faced with moving your family to Buffalo vs Dallas - if you're not a cold weather guy, you might opt for Dallas. But, then again, you might opt for Miami...

When the Dallas Cowboys were perennial champions, yes, they had an advantage. There was a mystic that eveyone wanted to be part of. Excellence was the culture, the mission, the vision... That is gone.

That Star is an incredible brand or logo. So is the stadium. But, that doesn't put excellent players on the field - it might actually being working against the organization. Too soft. And, that would be a Disadvantage, not an Advantage.

Listening to NFL radio this morning, Ross Tucker ranks Dallas #3 behind Miami and Cleveland as most dysfunctional organization in the NFL. Agree or disagree?

there is no team in all of professional sports who is more dysfunctional than Jerry Jones run Dallas Cowboys. And its not even close.

Jeff Wilpon and the Mets are a close second............

I agree with the bold to an extent. I think the stadium hasn't been the advantage it was envisioned to be.

Right. Time moves on and the Cowboys no longer have the same clout they used to. But in the absence of success, more opportunities have arisen because the surroundings have become more prominent.

*The Dallas Fort Worth Market is actually the 3rd largest market in the NFL.
*The markets within the division are ranked 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 6th.

And because of that Dallas is still a national brand. The history hasn't completely evaporated, although Jones has tarnished it.

That's the point I'm trying to make. Jones and the FO have mismanaged this organization and handicapped us of taking advantage of such a great marketing platform.

Yeah we can't get things on our name alone, but we do enjoy advantages over most teams in the NFL. Add a little success and we enjoy more advantages than just about any team in the league-- GB would probably be the only team that could hang.

Well I guess Dallas has been on the level of the Pats, Steelers, and Packers for the last 17 years.
