What difference does it make what year it is, distraction is distraction and his talent level isn't good enough to give him a roster spot.

Well, it does make a difference that most people in North America are living in the 2000s and not the 1950s

May I ask why you think his talent level isn't good enough to warrant a look, and how you seem to be a pro-level scout when it comes to a 7th round pick not on our team?

Thats neither here nor there. Fact or fiction? Is Michael Sam getting a lot of media coverage or not? That is the debate right now, not whether people care if he's gay or not. Doesn't mean it's a bad thing, just means that the media is all over him and some teams might not want that when bringing is some bubble guy and thats what Michael Sam is whether you want to admit it or not.

I think the point there is that maybe in another time, this would have been some sort of controversy. But that time has long since past. Granted, you may have folks stuck in their ways, but they are pretty few and far between. Most people, most Cowboys fans, can tell the line isn't near where it should be, and if we were to pass over someone who could improve it, even slightly, because of what he did or didn't do in his personal life, that would be a shame. This team has dealt with far heavier attention, and usually from a negative standpoint. The "distraction" would be nothing more than positive stories about Michael Sam, because there really isn't two logical sides to his playing in the NFL (again, you do have the outliers). So if he can play, sign him up. If he can't, why was he a great college player and had 3 sacks in 4 games? Some team is going to answer that question.

I know you weren't asking me but i'll chime in.
This is no longer pre-season. You can't just bring in guys to give them a look....you have to release someone.

Fact. he will get some more attention. But this is the NFL. Take Manziel for example. He is an attention magnet. But the story is starting to die down a bit, and once the season starts and Johnny sits, there will be less to talk about. There's just too much going on to keep writing stories about backups. Same with Sam. He'll make someone's team, he won't start, and folks will move on. The end.

Just because you were a good college player doesn't mean you're going to be a good fit in the pro game, we've seen this over and over again. His sacks came against guys who will be driving beer trucks next week. We're talking about a guy who was nearly undrafted, there are plenty of guys who were cut this weekend, now the question is why is Sam so special as a 7th round pick that was cut?

I'm not so sure. His release is the number 1 trend on Yahoo and Facebook right now.

He looks like a decent nickel rusher prospect in our scheme but by no means does he look like a beast.

That's just it. He's not more special. But he isn't any less special, either. The fact that you "know" he's not an NFL player, even though he shined in the opportunities he was given, shows the... misguidedness of your position. If he had no sacks and three tackles this preseason, no one would be advocating this. But he played pretty well in the time he was given to do so.

I never said he wasn't an NFL player, I said the Cowboys don't need his distraction because his talent isn't good enough to warrant it. You sound like one of those guys who bought a Michael Sam jersey and are upset that he didn't make the cut. Calm down dude, and stop calling people who disagree with you "misguided"

I haven't been paying much attention to the rest of the NFL this year, and I have literally not had a single piece of info regarding Sam cross my path. The only bits of info I heard regarding him came directly from this board. I heard stuff about Manziel and Gordon, nothing about Sam.

Point being, playing a casual NFL viewer this summer, I was exposed to no extra Sam stories than normal.

This who think he garners extra attention and causes a distraction are likely over exposing themselves to his story. A self fulfilling prophecy, that's called.

Why would I buy a Michael Sam jersey? Do they even make Michael Sam jerseys? Why would I want a jersey of a 7th round pick from a team I don't follow?

By your logic, advocating we give someone an equal chance of competing, regardless of background, is equal to buying their jersey and being a fan. I guess I'm a fan of every player that's ever played then. Jerseys for all.

Yes they sell Michael Sam jerseys, in fact, his was the 2nd highest selling jersey. I'm glad to hear you're a Cowboy fan because you sound more like a Michael Sam fan. I don't think he can help the Cowboys in any way and it seems as though the front office feels the same way. We can end this conversation with that fact. Go Cowboys!!!

How can that be when his release is the number 1 story trending right now? I got nothing against the dude, what he does with his life is his business, however, he has been all over the news each step of the way.

Well you would buy it because you are apparently a sam super-fan. Hes a fringe guy. He might be able to help the cowboys. He might not. Its not worth cutting someone to take a look at him.

Hey I could be wrong; just that from my perspective and from the sites I frequent, Sam has been a non-story to this point
