Speculation is the timeline was moved up due to actions on the part of the NFL Management Council. Three guesses who is the chairman of the council.

Per Joey Ickes twitter.

Edit: Clarified the OP for the white knights below.

In the policy: notice of disciple comes, then you have 5 days to appeal. Appeal hearing is scheduled for the 4th Tuesday following.

There are like 10 owners on the council. Chairs aren't the only voice nor can they be partial dictators if they want to keep the position

I thought it was fast because originally they were saying Gregory's appeal wouldn't be ruled on until around March or April and he was able to finish the season.

If they have rules in place and they altered the procedure for any reason, that's grounds to go to court and seek an injunction. In fact, it's the only grounds. It has to be a situation where the NFL has rules and procedures in place and they don't follow them.

Goodell makes up rules as he goes with agendas in place. He loves witchhunts.

We got news if this suspension some time ago. By that timing, this appeal hearing would not be rushed or early at all

Just the threat of going to Federal Court is enough to get a more favorable outcome

Jerry usually sides with protecting the League

While that's been true in recent years, remember when Jerry first came in, he was a maverick, often being buddy-buddy with Al Davis and ruffling Taglibue's feathers. Fought the NFL hard over several issues, like apparel sales, liquor sales, and other things.

If this is really the NFL policy, why is it silly to pursue this? I know some of you think Gregory deserves the death penalty for smoking weed, but this shows clear bias if that really is the NFL policy.

was it ever clarified what exactly happened w gregorys last failed test? did he staight up smoke through rehab or did he miss the test bc he was away? a missed test i believe goes down as "positive". so im wondering what happened exactly. maybe i missed this..

ASFIK, the reports were over a failed test. The notice of discipline was delayed until the other suspension ran it's course. So that would have been around the time of the Lions game. The timeline makes it pretty obvious that the next suspension was moved up due to the playoffs and according to their own policy the earliest his appeal could be heard would be after the next game. Potentially against the team who's owner oversaw this miscarriage of justice.
