4 years 20 million is reasonable

I'm very much in the "you don't pay RBs" crowd, but I could live with this for Murray. Especially if it is structured so that least year is extremely team friendly if he is done before age 30, and there are injury/playing time clauses involved as in Lee's contract.

The biggest contract this offseason was 3 years 10.5 million. Last year was 4 years 16 million.

My guess is that they offered him 4 years 20 million.

He won't take that, and he will look to free agency, where some team will give him at least 8 million.

Let him look then. The season isn't over and he's never made it through to the end.

So now that we have a great running game everyone wants us to let Murray walk? Lol. If Running backs are a dime a dozen why did it take us a decade to find a 1000 yard rusher?

Murray is the perfect runner for this zone scheme and he's one of only a couple true every down backs in the league. We'd be beyond stupid to let him walk, the way he's playing is one of the main reasons we look like a real threat for the first time in a long time.

Romo's scheduled to make 27 million next year to be a bus driver, and people are gawking at paying our workhorse anything over 5 million a year. Makes me shake my head, some people would rather beat their chest about not paying a RB instead of sticking with what's working and is the clear formula to get back to being a playoff contender.

It's like that whole "running the ball doesn't matter as much as passing" crowd that used to argue with those of us who pleaded for this team to become a run first offense, that it was the only way Romo could thrive and have actual success. How's that argument looking now??

You guys watch too much ESPN about the passing league and how RBs are devalued and assume that's the only way to do your business. Murray's a damn stud, time to start giving him some **** respect.

I'm not sure how overrated he is. I'd like to see Williams and Randle getting some carries behind this line and seeing how productive they are before handing Murray a large contract.

Given Murray's injury history you may get your wish before the season is over. If he stays healthy all year, I wonder how much that would have to do with this being a contract year??

Even if he considered overrated by some and underrated by others, are Randall or Williams capable of doing all Murray does; ie. recognize and pick up blitzes, block and catch passes well. We're working with a well rounded back that if he can stay healthy is more valuable for continuity, every position is not plug and play and Romo has a tendency to mistrust new guys especially ones that can't protect him and his back. I say offer a fair contract and let the chips fall where they will if he doesn't sign but definitely not easily replaceable.

The first round pick should be spent on (if the draft falls in the Cowboys' favor) to a defensive end or even another offensive lineman to replace Free.
We spend another 1st round pick on the OL and people will start to question what our GM is thinking.

I agree... Murray is a good back .. Not great .. Pay him good back money and no more.. This is the same back that many in the past had said he consistently runs to darkness .. So why overpay for good... I thought as an organization we are trying to get away from that .. Don't get me wrong .. I wouldn't mind keeping Demarco Murray around .. But let's not jump the gun here and overpay him

He isn't going to get big money. No rb does.

And I used to laugh at the running to darkness comments based on like two or three runs viewed in slow motion.

Silly.

Well yeah. :)

Don't get me wrong, DE should be the prime target. OL (along with a couple other positions) should be secondary targets.

It's actually a 4 year deal, my bad I'm not sure how to edit titles.

No details but it doesnt seem like JJ wants to compete with the rest of the NFL for DeMarco's services.

According to team sources, Cowboys runningback DeMarco Murray has been offered a four-year contract that would pay him “more than any free agent runningback received this past offseason.” This was reported on NFL Network’s pre-game networking.

This does not mean necessarily that Murray has accepted the contract or even that the two sides are even close to reaching an agreement, but it does represent a significant revelation that the Cowboys will indeed be trying to sign Murray to a long-term contract as opposed to applying the franchise tag to the player.

Was shocked to see this thread, but after hearing the offer is likely around 4 years, 18 million, this sounds more like a teaser. Murray has his eyes on the prize. Double that.

I love Murray but I remember MBIII all too well. I'm conflicted about this.

MBIII was possibility the most overrated Cowboy ever. Made a name for himself killing tired 4th quarter defenses in 2007. He had a nice overall game as far as being a receiver and blocker, but as a runner he was no more then a decent change of pace guy

I guess I could live with 4 years 24 million, with 16 million guaranteed. If he wants more, don't let the door hit you...

That's the first thing that crossed my mind. It's like giving MB3 that killer contract. What for? Let the season play out.
Because the risk is that his value keeps going up. This may be the last chance to get him to take a (relatively) low-dollar contract seriously.

I could live with a 4-year deal at $4-5M per. Not an ideal use of resources, but Murray is a very good 3-down back and a deal like that expires when he's likely to collapse (meaning when he turns 30). But my fear is that they take a contract like that and start extending it down the road, and you absolutely do not want to be paying an RB in his 30s.

I would agree except I think we franchise him for one more year. I believe we could be in a window right now with next year being the key year in that window. After a defensive draft and key free agent signing, I think we go all in on next year and go from there.

If he can get $8 million a year from someplace else more power to him, I like Murray but Dallas has to be careful on the money they offer him.

This is such a bad idea, let him at least for finish the season without getting hurt(which he has never done).the same thing happened with Lee,these guys don't seem to learn when it comes to often injured players.

I'm a big jerri hater, but I can see where they're coming from on this one. Its a tough decision and comes with a level of risk like all contracts do. By signing him now, he may be enticed to accept terms more favorable to the team because he would get guaranteed money. I'm sure he's concerned about injury as well. Once the season plays out and if he stays healthy and maintains his high level on the field, he'll have all the leverage.

If he's going to get signed and injured, I'd like the lowest, best term contract that gives the team the most flexibility and least cap impact.

Decisions, decisions.......do they have the discipline to walk away if the numbers get crazy? If they don't give in to the pressure and let him walk, I'll be sad to see him go but feel much better about how the team is run going forward
