What does the PK have to do with being an even player?

If he played alot on the PK, i could understand him only being an even player, because you're more likely to let up goals if you play alot of minutes on the PK.

But he doesn't.. he played mainly even strength and PP minutes.. and put up 40 points.

Im much happier not paying him the money and playing Gustafsson, Bourdon, or even Syvret in his place.

PP/PK doesn't affect a players +/-.

Even if a player is on the PK for 3 goals in a game, his +/- will stay at 0.

This Flyer's fan thinks JVR has a much higher threshold then Schenn.

I think Schenn is a good defenseman who automatically upgrades the Flyer defensive corps and will bring a little more toughness to a unit that needs it.

JVR could become a consistent 30 goals per year guy. He has loads of talent but every time you would think he was going to take the next step, he'd be injured or something would be going on.

Up to this point he's been a tease.

I hope the trade shakes him up a little and turns him into the player many thought he would be last season.

Pretty much my thoughts on the situation too, Schenn is a heart and soul type player, at 18 he was fighting guys for his teammates. Good team guy, and he could be a top shutdown d-man in the league.

I like JVR though, i agree with Risen Star too, good trade for both teams, but Schenn was definitely a fan favorite because of his attitude on and off the ice.

I was thinking the guys that play heavy PK minutes are more likely to be less effective on their even strength shifts because PK shifts seem like they would take alot out of you as far as energy level and stamina.

That makes sense, although most players who are on the PK are 3rd/4th line players or 2nd/3rd defensive pairings. So it evens out because they won't play as much.

But yeah, some players get tons of even strength minutes AND PK time.

Well, I think it's an even trade right now. We'll see if it stays even. Schenn could be legit and JVR could always be an injury prone tease. Or JVR could blossom into one of the better scorers in the league and Schenn might not pan out.

To me this was a case of two teams swapping players they expected more of, hoping a change of scenery makes a difference. I think if both teams were being honest they'd admit they're a little worried that they might have given up a future star.

I've seen some Flyers fans making the case that now that Luke's with his brother he'll play better. I don't buy that.

I doubt playing with his brother would change anything, but yeah they both needed a change of scenery.

One of those trades where both teams, get an even deal. (Well, for now anyways)

Flyers sign D Bruno Gervais and F Ruslan Fedotenko.

It looks like they're gonna sit on their cap room and hope the young guys mature. Maybe make a run at next year's FA class which is projected to be stronger.

If it were me, I'd make some kind of move for a goalie. Bryz and Leighton just doesn't give me hope for next year. You have to have Bryz for right now, but you can at least have a better backup behind him.

I guess that's slightly better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

I don't see much out there in goalie land that intrigues me for the back-up position.

I think Leighton will do well in the backup role. Like bringing in Rusty. Gervais is "eh", would rather just let Gusto and Bourdon battle it out for the 6th spot. Still have Syvret in AHL too.

With what is being leaked about the owner's initial proposal for a new CBA, I'm not at all confident that the season will start on time.

According to the players union, they are willing to start the season without a new deal. They saw how much damage was done with the lockout. They don't want to go there again.

That's from the player's perspective.

From the owners... I'm starting to smell a lockout.

I think the owners feel the same way. They don't want to do that kind of damage to their product ever again if they can help it. The NHL is only now beginning to recover from it.

You may be right but I'd be surprised. That league can not afford any missed time.

But speaking strictly for myself, considering our goaltenders, I'm for a multi-year strike.

Flyers sign Shea Weber to a massive 14 years 100 plus million dollars offer sheet. If the Preds dont match the Flyers have to give up, count em, four 1st round picks.
