I saw that.

All I can say is "Wow!"

Weber is possibly the best D in hockey and a perfect fit for the Flyers but I don't believe any player is worth four 1st round picks.

I'm hoping Nashville matches.

You have to think they'll match. They can't lose Suter and Weber in one offseason. There'd be a fan revolt.

Those picks will probably be in the high 20's anyway, so I hope the Predators don't match it. This move would make them instant Stanely Cup favorites.
Bring on the stinking rangers!

Oh you mean in the general area where we drafted Giroux and Richards?

No thank you.

Supposedly the contract pays Weber 27 million the first calendar year. That's the poison pill for the Predators.

While I don't think the present Flyer D (sans Pronger) is the elite of the NHL, I think it's pretty good.

Sounds like the Flyers structured the contract and bonuses so that that Preds will be up against the wall if they match. Weber for 4 first round picks? To lock up a 26 year old beast D'man.. i'll be fine with that. Chances of any of those picks ever being as good as Weber is slim to none.

They have a very young team. A player like Weber can put us over the top and make us be competitive for many years to come.

They wouldn't have to be as good individually. The chances of four first round picks collectively providing more impact than one defenseman is very good.

Sitting out the first round the next four years of the draft is hardly a great way to remain competitive.

This is about mortgaging your future for immediate impact and I'm against it.

Sounds like a Jerreh move... Or maybe an "old" Jerreh move.

I would agree, but it seems like Homer feels we have a very good chance to win with the group we have here now. Makes sense to go ahead and bring in a proven leader and a stopper on the backend to anchor the D. Young guy, still has his prime ahead of him, and probably the best D man in the league. If i give away 4 first round picks, Weber is one of the only guys i would do it for.

There are more Rob Schremps and Kris Chuckos in the late 1st round than there are Girouxs and Richards. I doubt that the Flyers or The Predators would hit a home run on all 4 of those picks.

I don't know man, like i said, the way we structured the contract, it makes it darn near impossible for them to.

The number of dollars makes it steep, but if they have the cash they can do it.

Plus they're way under the low-cap level.

In other words they have to spend some money.

Maybe not this amount and to this player, but they gotta spend.

And then you have the whole fan-base there in Nashville to consider.

I honestly think either way, whether they match or not, they are screwed. Homer didn't make this easy for them, that's for sure. Probably alot of f bombs being dropped at his expensive in the Nashville GM's office right now, ha.

They have to win a cup with Weber leading the way for this to be a good decision.

They say Weber's new contract would be 16% of the Predators' overall net worth. They just might have to take the picks.

No doubt. Yup, the first year they would owe him around 27 million.. with their net worth only being 163 million total.
