No Merriman vs Ware thread yet ?!?!?

I've not scouted Woodley yet (i'll do that after our season is over) but I agree that we need another dominator opposite Ware. Maybe Carpenter will or will not be that player.

One last thing before I overload this thread with Clove posts. I've noticed alot how when Ware rushes, he doesn't go full blown, as if he has to worry about a scrambling QB or the run. When I've watched the few games of the Chargers, I saw Merriman go strictly after the QB period. No trying to isolate and contain the edges, just a B-line towards the QB. I wish we had the LB core to be able to allow a person to go straight after the QB while using others to contain the run.
I wish we had Jamal Williams and Castillo (sp?)
Having said that, Merriman is definitely a better passrusher than Ware at this point. We are 2 years in, and we still have more talent to add to our front 7.
I would up grade either Canty or Spears, if Carpenter doesn't start to show dominance in passrushing, I would replace him. And I like Ayodele, but I'm not sure about James' speed, although he does lead the team in tackles.

Some say he can't cover. Looks like a real stiff in coverage only defending 7 passes and picking 1 to Wares 6 & 1.

watch again. He dropped back into coverage, read Hassleback perfectly, tipped the ball and made a god like acrobatic catch for a guy whos nearly 270 pounds.
Merriman does drop into coverage. It's just NFL fans who do not like the Dallas Cowboys know who the better player is. It's not a knock on Ware. Ware is excellent. Shawne Merriman is just a lot better. And to say that SD has much better players is a testament to bad coaching and scouting. You guys have a plethora of 1rst round picks on your defense. Thats an abundance of talent. Marcus Spears, Roy Williams, Terrence Newman, Bobby Carpenter, DeMarcus Ware, Greg Ellis to SD's Shawne Merriman, Quinetin Jammer, Antonio Cromartie and Luis Castillo.

Why don't you look up the number of times each player has been told to rush the QB, and their resulting success rates...i bet they're not too far apart. Why don't you actually watch the games closely and objectively...you might actually notice that SanDiego's pass rush is FAR superior to ours across the board...I'd be willing to bet that 75% of Merrimans sacks are the result of another lineman flushing him from the pocket. Arguing that Merriman is as versatile as Ware is akin to waving a red flag of football ignorance...don't bring that here. Where are your stats of how many plays have each player actullay have played. And then from those. How many times or % has Marriman rushed the QB...like 100%, because that is all he is asked to do.
How many times has Ware rushed the QB, I bet less than 50% of his palys. How many times has he covered a RB or TE orWR, how many times has he stayed in his position only to stop the RB for a no gain or loss.
