No moral victories but team is close!

Many are saying this is a rebuilding season, I don’t see it that way, nor has the team approached the season that way.
I'll play along in your Bizarro World of thinking by asking what is this team close to?

For me, I feel shotty is proving his doubters wrong 1 week at a time and i'm loving it.
Oh yes. Got his star WR1 hurt running the ball. Making it rain during practice. Offense shut out in the second half of two games. One win for the season.

We have two elite units and one terrible one. If the defense can just become average, they have a chance.
A chance at what? And the offense that got shut out in the second half of two games is now elite?

Go get a starting linebacker right now and I may be able to get on board with this. I have zero hope for Overshown, whatever he does this year great, there is a great chance he will never be what he once was, and to me anyhow was overhyped by this forum and fans. That doesn't mean he wasn't good.

I honestly don't know how to get through to you; it's almost at the point of not even trying to. Do you know the difference between giving up on the season and not thinking we have a chance to win with the roster on hand? The problem with your line of thinking is that it's exactly 100% of how Jerry and Jr have run this team for 30 years. We are good enough to make it with a playoff game, but not good enough to win all the games. The only way this team could have a "chance" is to go on a spending spree and trade the next 5 years of picks for a shot in the dark. We have started to build a promising group of young core players, and the next 2 years will have the opportunity to fill in MAJOR holes needed for success. We have players coming off of injury at "some" point this season, and they will likely have little impact.

Imagine Revis, Overshown, the 3 Tylers, Blue, Maffa and others developing over the next 1-2 years in conjunction with having early picks? This is the formula of success in the NFL, and this team is nooooooooowhere near where we all want them to be. I just don't get it man....
You can't get through to him. Many others have tried. He lives in the butt crack of Texas full of vacuous men. Don't waste your time trying to speak logic to a Bubba.

Crazy what a tie game will do for some of these guys
Don't be a hater! We tied the mighty Green Bay Packers. The greatest football team of all time! I'm surprised Goodell hasn't cancelled the remaining season and handed us the Lombardi. Come on man, get on board!

That was a tough read BB, I get you like long messages but you could try being succinct sometimes too?

From what I disected in your message, you are saying some fans need to stop saying this a rebuild year as the FO don't think it is?

Yup, I agree with you, the FO don't see it as a rebuild year.

However.........I and many others believe it should be, simple as that.

I'd rather pick 8 in the draft than float about this year watching some good games and some bad and end up picking 19.

Maybe we don't even pick at 8, we could trade that too for a later 1 and a 2 or better still, a later 1 and a 1 in 2027 so we hit 2027 with 3 1s in our pocket.

Please don't rant at me because I believe differently from you, this is a message board where we come to debate / share etc.......tell me you get that?
That's not our place,

You do realize that Jerry Jones owns this it's his it's his business, He doesn't want a tank, he's not filling seats to be bad on purpose.

This is the entertainment business, and yes fans need to stop with the nonsense with their expectations as if somehow because they play Madden and fantasy football and read things online that they're experts... The Internet has bred know it all egomaniacal fan bases that believe that somehow, they are owed something like there's some kind of conditions on their fandom. Too many fans feel self entitled because the Internet has drew them closer in to the whole process with contracts and what goes on leading up to the draft there's too many content creators group pages and the Internet that all think they're experts...

I happen to follow the Dallas Cowboys because it's part of me It's not just a hobby anymore it's a lifestyle and I'm not waiting all off season so we can just give up four games in...

My succinct opinion would be we don't wait for a very long off season to 4 games in giving up and having a throw away year just so we can have a better draft pick!!

that's not how it works,
so I completely disagree with you, this is not a rebuilding year because the owner says it's not, the coaching staff says it's not, and these players make a living doing this and they're not giving up.
.
That's loser talk.... Nobody at this point in the season wants us to have a losing season except for that little 25 per cent in the poll you know that said they hoped we lost to Green Bay like before the game that's sad if you're really that kind of fan you probably should move on...

go play the stock market it seems more up your alley. lol.

They will have “ turned the corner “ when they consistently play well on the road . Jets Panthers both road games.
They actually showed up game one and I realize what you mean by consistency that was on the road against the Super Bowl champions and we were supposed to get blown out So they have the ability to play a close game against a good team and let's not lump the Jets and the Panthers into good teams but you're right the consistency on the road would be nice but consistency. I don't care if they lose most of the games on the road because most teams do I mean that's why you have home games you try to win all eight home games at 1 point I think with Mike Mccarthys group we won 17 games in a row at home Then you try to split on the road that's how you come up with 10 to 12 wins every year..

But in this case I'll give you this one you must win both those games you have to get going forward gain some traction right now before the really hard stuff comes up with the schedule but we do have players coming back to help out but right now you have to beat these two teams it's a must win back to back games I don't care if they're ugly I don't care if we win with one field goal 3 to nothing we need to win these games....

But the flip side of this coin is hard to be consistent with all the injuries I mean it happened in 2020, 2024 and so far this year we've started the year without a lot of people and now there's a list that's hard to fathom on how many guys are on that report.

You know the sarcasm, I can live with that,

that's OK we get it we've done nothing this year, we have a losing record and a tie and moral victories don't buy you a cup of coffee..

however,

I think people have a right to have hope, because when you go on the road game one and probably should have beat the defending Super Bowl championship team at their house in a game we were supposed to get blown out And then with all the hype with Parsons coming into that Green Bay game, following that disaster against the Bears, the expectations again, we were going to get our butts kicked, and Parsons was going to have a record game, he was going to set the single season sack record againt our terrible Tackles, and his revenge game this was going to show us..

It didn't show us anything, it showed us that Parsons was on both sides of 2 lopsided basically losses for his team Green Bay Packers versus the Dallas Cowboys, and the Result is he was basically on the losing side of both those.

hmmmm Statement game my arse..

Sometimes you have to take those moral victories because when you're told by everybody that you're not good enough to even hang with these teams and you come out with a 40-40 TIE against a top five defense, with the Cowboys missing so many players, I don't think you even taking that into account..

I know it's not an excuse but there is a reason that we should have lost these games by a much larger margin.

Lots of these players are coming back, therefore people have some hope, that's it..

so, you can try to lift your leg on our hope and we're not going to allow you to do it sarcasm aside which I can appreciate, I'm a very sarcastic person, and I'm not even going to get on you about it, but I'm going to give you the reasons people have hope.....

Four games into a season with a lot of players coming back, we have a right to do so we're actually fans of a team that we hope that can finish the season strong..

we started out the season 3-5 and 2018 ended up in the second round of the playoffs, that where we're sitting right now, we can have that perspective that this ship is going to get righted and we are going to have a strong second half to the season.

Sad we have so many fans who feel like you.
And looking forward to the draft and free agency in the offseason already that we're hoping to improve our chances for an offseason no one wants to win an offseason...lmao

The defense does not look “close” and the offense is starting to move backwards bc of injuries. It hasn’t effected us yet on the score but I have a feeling we can only play so lights out for so long with so many guys out

Sometimes it's not apparent what's close and what's not close Sometimes it's just a few little subtle changes and it'll click it took a while last year for Mike Zimmer to get his group back healthy and on the same page they started out just like this last year but they finished strong they ended up in I don't know may have been just the NFC or could have been the NFL but it could have just been the last eight games of the season but they led the league and sacks and turnovers over a long period of time to end the season.

That's the reason for hope because yes all of a sudden last year Zimmer's defense just started clicking and maybe Matt's will as well or maybe this is Mike Nolan and it never gets on track I mean I don't know i'm not a fortune teller but I can tell you this there's reason people are trying to have a little hope because we've seen this before I saw it in 2018 we started out three and five everybody thought it was over It was never over it's not over till you're mathematically eliminated and there's time for that to happen we're only four games in...

Problem with last year is we already lost Prescott It was too late too little too late for Rico to get on track for them to find the right offensive line but this year on offense we have that pretty dialed in we're just waiting on the defense to even be 16 can you be mid I mean could you be average we would like to just see average....

There's good reason for people to at least try to have a little hope around here instead of just being at the edge of the Cliff or already jumped off talking about draft picks and the offseason and where our draft slots might be and who we might pick that's just insane four games in people it's not over...

I’m not at the edge of the cliff I’m just being realistic. I’ve been mostly impressed with Schotty and very impressed with Dak/Williams/Pickens/the offense in general. But realistically the odds tell me when 4 of your best starting OL are out and your offense has been your one strong point then you’re going to lose some of the games that were must wins to put yourself in a good position.

The good thing is though I think our offense is adaptable they can increase the run game run more bring three running backs the way our offensive line if he gets healthy can play we can play that ball now we're stopping the run on defense and we can run the football on offense it does not need to be high flying 30 passes a game if the defense shows up we can actually play playoff football but we need a defense first..

Think about it the bigger problems we had over the years was stopping the run and creating a threat in the run game Come December and January I think we have those elements we just need the rest of the defense to get its **** together because people are not going to run against this defense when they can just go pass happy they can make every one of the quarterbacks coming up have their best games of their careers..
I agree the offense is very addapable and has a great foundation with the line plus dak and the wrs are playing great. I do worry that injuries will derail but nothing you can do there.

Defensively i am still not clear if the run game defense is better bc the scheme/players or simply because other teams are having so much more success in the air. Unfortunatly, i dont think the talent on the defense is going to allow them to be any better than 20 or so, especially with the gaunlet of a schedule that we have. That being the case, not sure the offense will be able to keep up.

I do hope jerry doesnt do somethign stupid and trade away picks - we do have some good young (yet inexpereinced) talent that we can build around and the defense could certainly take big leaps with a good draft next year and a FA or two...unfortunately i don't have any hope for them this year.

I agree about the run defense here's the caveat to that though sanborn Murray and and a guy like Clark are better in the run game these are downhill guys you know box guys like Donovan Wilson so if they did decide they're gonna run the ball a lot then next week or to say the Jets they're going to be playing in the box right correct trying to stay up on Justin Fields and trying to contain Breeze Hall which people not talking about this is the kryptonite for the old Cowboys teams so we will get to see what the new tested center of this defense looks like and can they contain the edges..

But my gut feeling is these guys are better in the box and they learned their lesson i'm sure a little bit with the game one against Jalen Hurts they go back and look in that second half matt needs to look at what did they do in that 2nd half to only give up three points and pretty much contain the Eagles I would say use that game plan from the jump against the Jets..

I mean there is a case where they might try to test the Cowboys secondary early hell on the first play of their offense they may try a bomb... I mean why wouldn't you at least test it...

But I do believe we have a chance to get it to 16 just be average before the buy that's all we can ask we got players coming back and maybe they coach and players finally get on the same page...
