Not surprised.

No one on this team deserves any individual awards.

Harrison has his team in the playoffs and that's going to go a long way with the voters.

Is there a Cowboys bias?

Yeah, but it is what it is.

So the defensive player of the year award has now become a team effort?

Nice work voters!

You should feel really proud of your efforts!

(if screwing it up and getting it wrong was the goal...)

I know... It's a joke isn't it?

Ya think Peyton Manning deserves MVP? I Don't.

I disagree. Ware most definitely did deserve a personal award, in spite of his teammates efforts. He more than did his part. Call the other players undeserving all you want, but not Ware.

I also could have lived with Reed over Ware, but not Harrison. What a joke this award is.

Wow. Just one final disappointing moment in a disappointment of a season.

Almost every time these awards wind up not going to the person I think they should. For example the NFL MVP award went to Manning. Now I've got nothing against Peyton, and I think he's a great QB, but I thought Phillip Rivers, even before the Chargers won on Saturday, deserved it more than Manning, if you're going to give it to a QB, because he had the best year for a QB and he doesn't have nearly the weapons a guy like Manning or Warner has at his disposal to throw to.

Gates is an awesome weapon but it seems like he's never healthy.

congrats to Harrison it was well deserved. but going by recent trends that probably means the Ravens are gonna knock the steelers out of the playoffs.

Matt Ryan Rookie of the year= eliminated by the cards
Chad Pennington Comeback player of the year= eliminated by the Ravens
Peyton Manning the MVP= eliminated by the Chargers
James Harrison DPOY= ???????

They are a year too late.

Harrison should have won this award last year and Ware this year.

Ware likely doesn't get it because he was a virtual no-show in the Eagles game, and the Cowboys didn't make the playoffs.

I think had the Cowboys made the playoffs, the award would have been Ware's hands down.

I see. So, his play in one game (which is debatable as to being a no show), affects the other 15 games, and the fact that the Cowboys didn't make the playoffs has what to do with individual play?

Face it. Sports journalists are as biased as they come. Comparing individual stats, Ware still beat out Harrison and played on a defense that was supposedly worse.

Steelers = playoffs
Boys = at home

That's all you need to know right there. If we would have been a better team, Ware would have won it, but you don't reward players who aren't playing in January. That's how it's always been.

I've always thought that the DPOY award was given as sort of an MVP award for defensive players. If that IS the case, then DWare wins hands down. Although Harrison had one heck of a year, he also had LaMarr Woodley on the strong side with 11.5 sacks. While Ellis had 8 sacks, they were bundled in 3-4 games, so Ware was fighting double-teams the whole season.

Also, "experts" quote two stats, sacks & forced fumbles. If you go by those stats, then Ware wins again. Although Harrison had one more FF than Ware, DW had 4 more sacks, and was the only player going into the last game of the season with any reasonable chance of breaking Strahan's all-time record.

The press, like most aspects of the media, hates the Cowboys, and wants them to fail. If Ware played for almost any other team, even a loser, I believe he would have won.

What a ripoff....:grrr:

good. we need more accolades like we need our star receiver throwing our star qb under the bus. one thing this team sorely needs is humilty.

Toldja.

It's not about the best defensive player, it's about being the best -- or most spectacular -- defensive player on a winning, high profile team.

Said it many times before, but it amazes me that in a day and age when all kinds of stats and information are available to anyone in a matter of seconds, the media only gets more and more lazy and superficial.

Sometimes they get it right but not that often. You're right CL.

But at least this one can be argued. Ware was pretty consistent but there were times when he wasn't seen for long periods of a game. I blame some of that on him and some on Wade. If Wade had been more aggressive I think we'd have made the playoffs and Ware would have gotten that record. And then Ware would have won the DPOY award.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone else had 20+ sacks and not won DPOY? That would be interesting to know.

But what good are individual stats if they don't help your team win?

Are you saying that Ware's stats were above and beyond Harrison's that we shouldn't consider Harrison's team being in the playoffs and Ware's team not?

Oh, and, P.S., EVERYONE is biased. Some people are biased towards winning. I aint got no problems with that, unless you think Drew Brees should get the award because he had more passing yards than every other quarterback and was about to break Dan Marino's 20+ old record.

I expected the answer to be no, but apparently Derrick Thomas had 20 in 1990 and lost out on DPOY to Bruce Smith.

Chris Doleman had 21 in 1989 and lost out to Keith Millard.

Mark Gastineau had 22 in 1984 and lost out to Kenny Easley.

None of them had 4 sacks on their closest competition, and none of them played the same position as the player they lost out to.
