A 5th round pick that might get outright cut?

A 5th round pick that has serious knee issues?

A 5th round pick for a WR who has caught just 99 passes the last 3 years?

A 5th round pick for a WR who will be 30 in October?

I consider a young stud WR a must this draft. If this is Jerry's way of avoiding that commitement then I am firmly against this move.

I'd do it. I'd see if they would do a conditional 5th, and if they won't I'd probably do it anyway.

Here are all of the recent 5th round picks by Dallas... Pat Watkins, Sean Ryan, Pete Hunter, Matt Lehr, Darren Hambrick, Oliver Ross.

It looks like we trade this pick away a lot. If this list of guys was the best we could do with a 5th rounder, then I say we make the trade.

right, but we can do both. bring in walker AND draft a young WR. any WR we draft likely will be a non-factor for this season and we need a WR to step right in and produce now. as long as he passes a physical and it's not a long term deal i have no issues with this.

5th rd draft choices are nothing to take lightly.

Ask the Tuna, he loved them.

I don't mind the move, but if we make this move and let's say Terry comes back. You are now paying Crayton pretty good money to sit on the bench. Also, I would bet guys w/ some talent like Austin or Stanback might get released after TC. I hate to see young developing talent let go.

I'm not sold on Walker, he was hurt in Denver, so we will have to see if he and Glenn and be effective?
Not sure about his attitude, but for a 5th rounder, why not. If anything for depth...

If Walker knees are fine, sounds like a good deal to me. I always liked Jevon Walker and he had a really good year with GB before he got hurt; might even have gone to the pro bowl. He got upset when they refused to renegotiate a 5 year old contract he signed after he was drafted by them; it didn't help that Favre horned in & criticized him for wanting more money. In season opener he blew out his knee. He also didn't want to stay in GB because their fans turned against him since the great Favre criticized him.

He had a pretty good year in Denver in his first year but remember there QB situation isn't that good no matter what some think about Cutler. He can't carry Romo's jock strape. Don't know enough about his knee injury; was it same knee or another? Understand Walker wants to be a #1 but that won't happen. Frankly, he should be thrilled to come to a high profile team like the Cowboys with TO opposite him and a QB like Romo who can make all the throws. Not surprising that TO & Witten and even Crayton had such good season -- as did Romo as well.

My only disagreement with Norm is that I see this as a short term solution. We really need to use a high pick to get quality WR. I'd love Malcolm Kelly but he won't be there when we draft; would also like Hardy and it's a good chance he will be there in the first round. I think Hardy can be another Randy Moss. Anyway since it takes a new player at least a year to significantly contribute the addition of a healthy? Walker will take care of the problems we having on those occasions when teams can take TO out of the game and we left with Crayton (no speed), Hurd (no speed), Austin (still can't catch consistently) and Stanbach (who knows?).

BTW: Some of you want Berriam (sp?) but he will cost too much; we just don't have the cap space for him. Also same goes for Moss but he re-signing with Pats anyway. Understand Joey Porter is a FA but don't know how good he is nor what kind of money he wants.

His former position coach (Sherman) might have the inside track here. He helped develop the guy in Green Bay.

Forgot to mention that even if Glenn comes back all the way, I wouldn't want to bet the farm on him. We can only wait so long before we must add quality WRs. This is Hurd & Austin's 3rd season; it's time for them to step up. Frankly, despite Jerry's hopes/believe Glenn can play this year I'd give the odds as not favorable and even if he can -- for how long will he play? This team is ready now and I don't want to fiddle around too much waiting on Austin & Stanback & Glenn. If we wait too long, we could end up with TO injuried, no Glenn, etc. Who in the heck is our franchise QB suppose to throw to then? It's Jerry's job to ensure that Romo has all the tools he needs to make SB runs. Still upset at the opportunity we let slip away but it was a total team effort in that lost.

I'm not too crazy about Walker with his Knee and his attitude. However, a 5th round pick if true will not be too bad, as long as the contract is incentive heavy. When healthy he is a hell of a wr.

I'd even do a 4th to keep Philly's nose out of this.

Everything else aside I have no problem gambling a 5th on Walker if we do our medical homework. I've said all along that we'll have a hard time finding roster spots for 8 draft picks.

I do think that acquiring Walker likely means Glenn will be released. You still have to draft youth and put him on the roster this year.

Just don't think you can carry TO, Glenn, Walker & Crayton, along with Stanback & a draftee. That's a lot of $, a lot of age/medical concerns, backed up by extreme youth/inexperience.

I think its either or with Glenn & Walker.

With health concerns for both Glenn and Walker you can't count on either to be available the entire regular season and playoffs. Even TO has had his share of injuries. Maybe having Crayton ride the bench would not be such a bad thing because he more than likely will be asked to fill in for someone due to injuries.

His attitude isn't completely awful, but his creaky knees would bother me.

The positive for his attitude is that he would be close to Darrent Williams family in Ft. Worth.

But those creaky knees...~sigh~

What about his own family? Isn't he from Galveston?

Yes. He is.

This deal makes a ton of sense for all involved.

It is a low risk deal if you are Dallas, it is a chance for Walker to get seen on a bigger stage and that 2nd Wr slot is open with Glenn likely retiring.

It is a bit like the Stallworth deal last year. The Pats wanted to add another guy and didn't want to commit long term but liked their minimal commitment.

Javon Walker could be a shell of his former self and still do well here as the 2nd WR. He obviously played well with a gunslinger at QB....
