This seems really similar to the Glenn trade too. Glenn was around Walker's age at the time of his trade, and correct me if I'm wrong, Glenn was picked up for a sixth rounder. Stats were pretty much similar too (I mean, using Glenn's stats from before the trade)

Maybe history will repeat itself. Anyways, Walker has performed before at least.

Also TO & Walker as friends so just maybe TO would be a good influence on Walker. As for Walker's knees, don't know if his knee injury last year is same knee as before or the other knee. If we can get Walker cheap & give up a 5th rounder, count me on board so long as he can pass a physical. Also I see Walker as a stop gap while we draft a high round WR who will take at least a year to really develop. In the meantime we need someone to play opposite TO and who is legit #2 WR -- something Crayton definitely isn't. Also would be Stanbach's first year as a WR and we don't know how good he will be. We can't waste Romo's years waiting for the necessary WRs. It's Jerry's job to get it down.

I just talked to someone with the Cowboys organization who said the club was interested in Broncos wide receiver Javon Walker. The Broncos would like to move Walker in a trade, but it's hard to imagine that the Cowboys would give up anything of value for a disgruntled player who is coming off an injury-plagued season.

Denver coach Mike Shanahan said in his final news conference of the season that Walker would likely have to undergo microfracture knee surgery in the next few years. In a lot of ways, Walker's value has always exceeded his actual production. He had a breakout season with the Packers in 2004 and a solid season with the Broncos in 2006.

Other than that, his career has been largely defined by a knee injury that caused him to miss almost the entire 2005 season. He also went through the mental trauma of having Broncos teammate Darrent Williams die in his arms at the end of the 2006 season. According to people who talk to him on a daily basis, he hasn't been the same since.

Teams will likely wait for the Broncos to release Walker before signing him. He's due a large signing bonus on March 4, and there's no way the Broncos will pay it. Oh, and he's not exactly the type of personality that would mesh with T.O. Walker, 29, believes he's still a No. 1 receiver in the league, and that wouldn't be the case in Dallas.

I here Philly will make a strong push for Walker as well according to wip610.

I'd rather Philly waste their time with him. I'm not against it, provided we don't have to take that contract he has currently, on, and that it's only for a 5th rounder, or lower.

So... now we are collecting wrs with bad knees?

Glenn and now possibly Walker? I don't think it's a great move, but this isn't too bad for a fifth... would prefer a sixth or seventh though. I hope the medical staff thoroughly checks him out.

Does anyone know what his contract parameters are and what they would be if he was traded to the Boys?

Make the draft choice conditional and maybe its not a bad move --but the collection of bad knees is making me a little nervious

its a frickin FIFTH round draft pick, who cares about some bad knees? hell we picked skyler green and isaiah stanback in the 4th the last two years, you guys really worried about missing out on those type of players for a consistent 1,000 yard receiver.

It usually takes two years to fully recover from an ACL injury anyway. So I would assume Javon Walker would be back in better shape this upcoming season.

Well... he definitely is not worth trading for if he is due a 5 million dollar roster bonus in March. The Boys are better off waiting till he is cut for that kind of price.

They would negotiate a new contact for the trade to go through.

‘BOYS EYEING JAVON?

So Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wants to put some “wow” into the offense? One possibility we’re hearing about is by acquiring receiver Javon Walker from the Broncos.

A league source tells us that the Cowboys are working on a deal that would bring Walker to Big D. The problem, however, is Walker’s knee. He tore an ACL during the first game of the 2005 regular-season, and he missed plenty of time in 2007, his second year in Denver, due to lingering problems with it.

There’s a chance, said the source, that Walker wouldn’t pass a physical.

If Walker were to land in Dallas, however, things could get interesting. Said the source: “Can you picture [Terrell] Owens’ reaction? Walker has pissed people off in Green Bay and Denver because he wants the ball so much. They are supposedly friends so I’m sure they think it could work but it would be fun to watch.

Owens and Walker made plenty of headlines three years ago in their efforts to get new contracts. Both threatened to hold out and, in the end, both caved.

Walker was traded to Denver in April 2006, and received the new contract he craved. After a solid first season with the Broncos, the team picked up an option for 2007. In hindsight, it’s yet another poor decision from Denver’s de facto G.M.

Norm just did a segment on the cowboys and wr's. He said from what he has been told and what the speculation is on a wr for Dallas is that there have been discussions with Dallas and Denver.

Apparently the deal right now is Javon Walker for a 5th round pick.

he did mention the possibility of Roy Williams still, but thinks giving a 5th for a player like walker who can step right in would be hard to pass on. he also said this is a move a super bowl team makes.

then he went into how this would allow us to use our high picks and corners and backs.

So Glenn and Walker.... each with a bad wheel. Meh.... put them together and we have ONE, Great WR

I thought we should've taken a shot for him the last time around, too. I'm perfectly fine with him being given a chance.

You know thats what the Cowboys did to get Terry Glenn.

Funny you should bring up Glenn.

He was viewed as washed up in Green Bay and he was stolen.

If what Shanahan says is true, and he's going to need microfracture soon, perhaps this is just a player who wants to win before he ends it.

Ray Sherman knows him very well, so I am sure we will make the right decision, one way or the other.

Trust the staff and organization on this one.

It is not just pie in the sky.

My sentiments exactly. This smacks of Jerry rolling the dice, though. A late round draft pick and a short term contract, he'll probably do it. Me, I think it wastes a roster spot - I'd rather make a strong play for Roy Williams. Either way, I don't think we can go into the season with the current WR situation - Crayton will never be a #2.

...Dallas biting on the Walker deal. Why should they?

Dallas' odds are as good as anyone's in getting in on the Walker sweepstakes after he is released.

What's more important with "risky" players is to minimize your risk with them and despite the perceived paltry value of a 5th round pick in some opinions it makes no sense to me.

He is really a vet minimum, year to year type of guy right now until he can show he has overcome him physical and mental problems.

We can't make this franchise the grab bag for every player who has failed in the recent past for one reason or another.

At some point you may realize that the team you have stacked with these type of players has also become a failure.

It's sexy for fans and the media to give attention to the "long shots" and "second chances" of the league, but the foundation of any team should be solid players with a background in excellence. If we follow that we should be a contending franchise for a long time.

If I was Dallas I would put my best foot forward in the free agent market for Walker. The deal should focus not on money, but rather an opportunity to revitalize a career with a strong team that would allow him to contribute without aggravating his knee injury.

I don't see Walker as an every down player. Dallas is a team that could give him 7-10 quality snaps a game and allow him to resurrect his NFL worth.
