1st preseason game are meaningless on the W/L front

* We gave up only 13 points without Fergy, Spears

* Area of concern - did not protect QB's - all 3 sacked 4 times

* Romo 8-10-71 Rating of 96.2 with 28 yard completion called back. Nice showing at #2.

Henson 6-13-64 Rating of 61.1 - Late 3rd and 4th qtr mop up against 3rd and 4th stringers. Ok showing that he can build on if he plays earlier in a game.

Bledsoe 4-8-27 Rating of 57.8 - 2 SACKS - Appears to be a poor showing

*Penalties 12-91 yards - Nothing is changed.....

We won TOP battle we won 32.59 to 27.01

* No significant injuries

What were Romos stats after Witten left the game?

Well nors, most people agree henson played much better than his stats showed. He had to throw the ball away several times due to good coverage and bad protection.

As much as you say an area of concern is not protecting the QB's - having no pash rush , despite only giving up 13 points, is as big a concern. If Arizona had their 1st string in the second half would that be 26 points instead of 13???

3-4 of those incompletions by Henson were him throwing it away because no one was open. He made the right decision by throwing it away instead of taking a sack or throwing an int.

A reply from someone who was there.

Bledsoe was awful.

Romo was okay, but lacks arm strength.

Henson has moxie, too.:D

Singleton and Burnett are both MUCH BIGGER than Shanle, and Als had tackles all over the field.

Neither center played well.

The 3-4 had no sacks or turnovers. :D

Was also playing with a 3rd & 4th team OL. Half of Romo's yards were to J. Whitten, who was the only 1st teamer left in on offense for Romo's 1st drive. Henson didn't have that same opportunity. Romo also was late on what should have been a TD pass to Crayton. Rolle broke it up only because the throw was not on time.

Just so you know, I have no agenda. I want the best guy to win the backup job. But you spin things any way you want if you do have an agenda.

Yes - Burnett will be starting over Als this year. Thats who Burnett is battling to start....

Brady does the same - he gets it out to the open guy quick (8-10 completions by Romo) Who had the hold on the 28 yard Romo pass called back. That had to be deflating.

I fear QB's that can't progress fast and revert to sacks or chucking it way. Appears thats just what the Drews did. Bledsoe sacked twice and Henson only completed 46% of his attempts.

I am quite aware of who is competing with whom.

But since you have this weight/big LB agenda I just wanted to point out what we saw, first hand, less than 150 feet away.

Ware does not look any bigger than Singleton, he's longer and both are cut.

Burnett looks bigger than both of them, Burnett has a thicker base.

Thornton, James and Fowler are next biggest.

Dat, Shanle and O'Neill all are about the same size.

Also speaking of size, on the DL:

Canty and Ellis look close upper body wise, but Canty has a lot mor junk in his trunk.

Ogbogu's arms are HUGE.

Glover and "Pepper" have similar builds, but Pepper has a little baby Sapp, too him.

Coleman, Carson, and Van Hoy are all square bodies, as Hos and Adbutcher calls them.

Nors. How come Henson was the only QB that completed any passes into tight coverage.

You bring up Henson going against 3rd stringers but that is all he had on his side to. Sure woulda been nice to see what Henson coulda done if he had Witten in the game like Romo did.

BTW - who was the QB in the game that had a 3rd down and 50 to go. Not Henson.

Nors, this is a section from Cowlishaw's article today, which got dispatched to the Article Zone.

Cowlishaw - Bledsoe not so hot in Arizona

Bledsoe got Dallas nowhere near the end zone, other than when his fumble put the Cowboys in the shadows of their own goal posts.

Bledsoe's night was an unimpressive 4-for-8 for 27 yards with two sacks, one fumble and one near interception. If things go the way coach Bill Parcells hopes this season, Bledsoe will throw about 500 passes, so his first eight in August at Sun Devil Stadium don't really mean a thing.

However, the valid criticisms of Bledsoe – that he holds the ball too long and is prone to mistakes – showed up Saturday night. In 10 attempts to pass, he was sacked twice, fumbled once and was knocked down three times.

The Cowboys can't afford for him to take anywhere near that kind of pounding as the season wears on, or he will wear out.

Bledsoe's only highlight in five series was a 15-yard pass to Pro Bowl tight end Jason Witten, set up by a nice pick, er, rather, block from Keyshawn Johnson.

That was the only first down for the Dallas first-team offense in five possessions. When Bledsoe was in, the Cowboys never reached the 50 and punted all five times. Only twice did they punt from closer to midfield than where they took possession.

Here's how it went for the first-unit offense.

Start from the 20, punt from the 23. Start from the 18, punt from the 16. Start from the 18, punt from the 18. Start from the 27, punt from the 43. Start from the 19, punt from the 14.

What does that have to do with Romo/Henson other than Henson pushing to be named starter. I agree - appeared Drew B had a bad game. Having gone to many a preseaso opener - this really doesn't mean anything to the starters.... Its 40 guys soon to be cut running around out there late in games.

No major injuries - I'm happy.

I was just providing you with some information for your recap as you apparently did not see the game.

Big props on your moxie tho..for starting just a thread what with all the folks who did see it, whether live or in person.

...I think the third preseason game will be the one to use a better barometer of their abilities and preparation for the upcoming season.

I sometimes wonder if the vets are out there on the first preseason game just shaking off the rust. Bledsoe has a few campaigns under his belt and he may be just pacing himself.

If not, and I'm just wrong, then I fear for this team.

I love the "I was there" stuff ...

I saw the freakin' game too ... and there are pros and cons of both being there and watching it on TV ... but being there gives you no more credibility than before ... especially since your agenda was clear before you went to the game ...

Give the "I was there" stuff a rest ... we saw the game too ...

LTN:

I said from afar - I noted the stats. Those penalties don't lie..... WAS I WRONG THERE? QB's I'll take a 96 QB ranking all day everyday. Surprised on all the he sucked comments I read on return.....1 WEEK away from announcement.

I was on a weekend vacation shoreline Maine. Had a great time and don't put much into this candidly. Anyone been to a 1st preseason game knows that.
