wait seriously is a fan of a team with the worse pass rush in the league laughing when his own team passed DWare and Merriman to take Stone hands carlos rogers in the draft because they let their CB Smoot leave via FA?

And then resigns Smoot 2 years later.......

I liked the trade then and I still like it now....same with choosing Ellis over Moss. It was the right thing to do then and definately is now.
I agree 100%. If offered a similar deal this year, I hope we do the same thing.

Why do we have to move on? We remember other things from Cowboys history, such as the Super Bowl wins, they happened, they're done. No harm in looking back at our mistakes and talking about what could have been. In fact I think ESPN has an entire run of articles called "What If..." or something like that.

Exactly, I cant stand these "move on" responses. You should reserve that for a single person who brings up the same thing 10 times.

With Super Bowl wins we look back fondly.
With couldave, shouldave, wouldave, we just agonize over what we know now.

I do, however, believe we can learn from mistakes, likes drafting a so-called diamond in the rough DE every year.

Overall, yes, move on.

I'm obviously not JJ's biggest fan, but even I'm not that upset with the trade. The book has yet to be written on Spears, although I find his whining troubling considering he played well in Parcells scheme after he was publicly called out, threatened to be benched or otherwise motivated to do so. Honestly, I don't think Steven Jackson is going to have a very long career in the NFL. Especially if St. Louis keeps giving him 450 touches a season.

Look at it this way. A RB in this league lasts just a few years. DEs generally last significantly longer. Julius gained over 4 yds a carry last year. Spears was solid although not more. Jackson is not that big of a star. We got two solid starters out of two picks. That's not bad.

Dude, no way is that true. Jackson was an all-pro last year, accumulating 2,334 yards from scrimmage last year, good enough for fifth-best all time. Jackson also gained 1,000 yards the previous year behind Mike Martz's pass-happy offense which rarely used the run. Jackson also scores more TD's, and is really large. Jackson would be a megastar if St. Louis got a better defense and won a few more games.

Spears was a BP pick, I think he will play better next year, but not enough to compensate for skipping Jackson.

As someone one pointed out earlier in this thread and since it seems some people missed it.

It really does not make a difference if we traded that pick or not.

THE COWBOYS WERE NOT TAKING S. JACKSON AT THAT PICK.

Now it does not mean I like it, heck I wanted S.Jackson. The majority of the board wanted S.Jackson.

It was like both heaven and hell in those few minutes dallas was on the clock.

Nobody really thought Jackson was going to fall to our spot so we pretty much had not expected to get him.

However dallas is on the clock and everyone in the chat rooms was cheering and chanting jackson.

Then hell hit and we traded the picks away.

But we later found out that the cowboys were NOT going to take jackson even if we had not traded that pick.

Bill (and I don't know about jerry or stephen) did NOT want to take someone in the first with the Postons as his client and the word was that if we would have stayed there we were going to take Kevin Jones.

Actually if I recall correctly someone was at VR during the draft and right before we were on the clock or as we were on the clock they heard Bill say. Call Jones agent.

Then of course they get a call from the bills and the trade happened.

However even then they tried to trade BACK UP into the 1st round to take a RB...once again Kevin Jones not S.Jackson.

They could not move back up so they fell back on plan B, which was if they did not get Kevin Jones in the first they would take Julius Jones in the 2nd.

I think even Julius has been on record saying that prior to the draft Bill or Jerry told him that if they did not take a RB in the first they would draft him in the second.

One other thing I read, and I have no clue of the validity of these or remember where I read it, but someone said Bill was not too high on S.Jackson because he either ran too upright or did not run hard enough for a man of his size...I can not remember which one it was but it was one of those two.

So no matter what guys, we were not taking S.Jackson.

The plans were one of the Jones all along.

We have to make the best of it now......maybe it will work out if Wade can get the most out of Spears.

I read/heard the exact same thing. Kevin Jones was our target not Jackson. The Poston's being a big reason why. I think ESPN or someone else stated that Parcells said he would never choose a Poston's client.

I didn't like the trade when it was made or rather the picks that were made from the trade. However, I will answer your question after this next season.

Yeah, I remember hearing that too. It's such a horrible reason not to draft a player though, especially if that person is BPA. The thing is, I don't remember hearing about any really significant hold outs or anything on Jackson's part. Not drafting a player because you don't like dealing with his agent is like shopping for a car and not buying a Lexus because the salesman at the lot is too pushy and instead going with a Hyundai because the salesman just kind of goes about your business. Ultimately you end up with an inferior product (which at least seems true with Jones/Jackson) and maybe a couple extras like a moon roof that you couldn't have afforded on the Lexus that don't really make or break the deal (Marcus Spears).

I also remember hearing that Tatum Bell was our choice ahead of JJ too, after Kevin Jones. Anyone remember hearing this/know if there is truth to it?
