the biggest reason Parcells passed on Jackson is because he graded him, Kevin Jones, Tatum Bell, Julius Jones, and Chris Perry about the same, he was trying to get the better value and 1st instead of the best player since others were graded similarly

disclaimer: just explaining Parcells reasoning

Before taking BP to task for not wanting to deal with the Postons (and it would have been Steven and JJ;s job anyway) you ought to read up a little on them.

And despite Jackson's 'great' season, the Cowboys two-headed ground attack was able to be more productive than Jackson and the Rams?

Anyone else feel better now?

In all actuality, it was not Julius Jones, Sean Ryan and Marcus Spears for the opportunity to select Jackson or Kevin Jones.

It was actually Julius Jones, Sean Ryan and DEMARCUS WARE for the opportunity to select Jackson or Kevin Jones.

If Dallas had only one pick in the first round of 2005, then it would have been Marcus Spears taken at #11 overall instead of Ware.

Plus, I am not ready to give up on Spears or Julius Jones yet.

BP said flat out that HIS target was Kevin Jones. He was going to pass on Jackson anyway. We were only going to get jackson if Kevin Jones went first.
As it turned out JOnes and Jackson were taken before our new pick came up and BP took Julius. Jackson had a great year last year- no argument. But we were not going to get him. It was NOT going to happen. Get used to it.

UUUUUM Ok correct me if I am wrong. But both Stephen Jackson and Kevin Jones was on the board when our pick came up. We traded down and that is when we missed out on both of them. Stupid move no matter how you look at it IMO

hey thats great to know...only about the 100,000th time something like this has been posted

lets talk about this again after the 2007 season...Jackson has had one season better than Jujo's out of three and this past yr he was the only guy getting carries for hsi team, and Spears has been totally wasted for two yrs in a lousy scheme...he'll be vastly improved in 2007 if he stays healthy

we can all revisit this then

David

To me it is case closed.

Jackson is superior and will always be.

How many "next years" is Julius Jones going to receive until people realize the phenom we saw in 2004 was a fluke?

Speaking of the Postons. Who are they representing this year?

Or wait, didn't they get banned by the league or something?

Bill OBVIOUSLY knew what he was doing :lmao:

This is coming from the fan of a 5-11 team that has a useless, senile coach. Get out of the basement, then come take your little shots at our franchise. Do you really not understand why nobody gives a crap about the Commanders?

Please, come back and talk to us when your team makes it back to mediocrity.

Frankly, most of the arguments being made, like "BP wanted Jones over Jackson anyway" and "if we'd only had one draft pick, Parcells wanted Spears over Ware" simply make Bill Parcells sound like the same idiot knowitall who also drafted Peterman and Rogers in rounds 2 and 3. Typical coach being too involved in the draft scenerio.

I thought this thread was started by prophet or philo, then I remembered they were banned. Nevertheless, Alexander is right: the clear winner at this stage is Jackson, but if Wade can light a fire under Spears ...

First. ONce again, too many fans have this wrong

its not JJ and spears

its JJ and ware

Spears was highly wanted by BP, and if we had only one pick it would have been spears

And it stands. Two players is better than one. I dont care what you say

Or we could go on talking about something that a number of people obviously still care to discuss and you could go back to your hole and think up more terrific insults like calling people mammas boy. Sorry if real discussions scare you tough guy.

Well that's kind of a tough thing to say. As it's been said, supposedly Parcells wanted Spears over Ware at 11 anyways and Jerry overruled him so maybe Jerry would have overruled him in our hypothetical scenario too. Certainly there's potential of it being either way. As far as two players being better than one...that statement is strictly dependent on who the players are.

only 1 of the bros was banned, I think it was Kevin, could be Carl ;)

I think his suspension ends pretty soon, I think it was only a 2/3 year thing

I agree w/ ndanger here, what's the point of crying about something that happened over 2 years ago? we can't fix the past, we can only deal w/ it, sad to say

even though Spears hasn't lived up to expectations, I haven't seen a better DE that we could have drafted other than Castillo who we passed on, that should be the real gripe IMO

Dude, no way is that true. Jackson was an all-pro last year, accumulating 2,334 yards from scrimmage last year, good enough for fifth-best all time. Jackson also gained 1,000 yards the previous year behind Mike Martz's pass-happy offense which rarely used the run. Jackson also scores more TD's, and is really large. Jackson would be a megastar if St. Louis got a better defense and won a few more games.

Spears was a BP pick, I think he will play better next year, but not enough to compensate for skipping Jackson.

Well Dude, if he does it a few more times then I'll curtsy when he passes. Until then I'll look at the trade for what it was....a draft decision made on the clock without the benefit of hindsight. We did ok and we still don't know what either will be like this year.

BTW, if Julius had touched the ball as much as Jackson with a 4.1 avg what would he have gained? And if Julius was the benefactor of an offense designed for swing passes to the RB how many yds would he have gained? Well, you can't answer that any more than I can. You're comparing apples to oranges.

If I had one less ex-wife I'd be a lot richer. I guess I should have drafted another one. Crap, I'm as bad as Parcells.
