Wow, I love it when people call 4 million/year a low number...lol. Maybe being the old man that I am I was thinking 4 million/year is a lot of money. Of course, were he to get injured at some point, that 20 million might look pretty good, at least to this old guy.

I agree, but today's player and his agent to follow current policy and what a top player should be receiving at his position.

Here, someone has to first become one of those top players with Dallas.

It's a lot of money to you because no one is waiting to pay you $8mil/yr on the open market

It's all relative. That would put him around 21st or 22nd among all DTs in the league.

Brandon Carr would be about 7.5M in dead money if cut before 2016.

Brinkley could be a cut candidate because his salary is scheduled to be 2M in 2016. That would be 625K in dead money.

If somebody like Collins were to beat out Doug Free, then Free could be a cut for 2016 which would be 3M in dead money.

He seems like the type that doesn't value the dollar as the most important factor. If he likes it here he may choose comfortability over top money. A Dez type contract may be the ceiling with less guaranteed.

Just a guess though.

I could see him taking the exact Dez contract despite the fact that it is lower than the top pass rusher Justin Houston's contract.

Hardy seems like less of a risk than Dez in some ways. I think he has just had the 1 incident in his career.

Murray wasn't, isn't and never will be worth $10M for 1 year. Especially coming off the workload season last year. We spent several months debating this issue in here (with varing amounts per year) with that same conclusion every time.

Yes, before the 2014 season Murray was somewhat injury prone.

Add in the stats that show a big decline for the majority of RBs with over 370 carries, and his probability of staying healthy and productive in 2015 seems low.

The Crawford love has come out of nowhere. I think I remember this message board blowing up around the draft because we didn't draft a DT in the late first round. Now 1 article where Garrett said he has high potential makes him the next Kevin Ogletree and Ryan Williams.

He may turn into Suh for all I know. I would prefer he shows it before he is talked about as a franchise tag player.

Many of those people wanting a DT in the draft, wanted a 1tech to replace Hayden.

Plus it's not 10m per year...it would be 10m for 1 year. A year when he was still in his prime. You pay a little more to avoid the long term commitment since it's well documented how RB's breakdown at 30.

The stats show RBs in general start to decline at 27.

The stats also show that almost all RBs with over 370 carries decline significantly the next season and most of them never recover.

A majority of the RBs in both categories above did not have as many injuries issues in their career as Murray has had.

Thing people need to remember about Crawford is that he was like a 3rd round draft pick and basically has made no money so far in his career.

He's 25 and this might be his last chance to get a big contract. He is a major up and coming player at his position to. Extremely unheralded. I wouldn't sign until the end of this year if I was him.

That is the exact reason he might jump at a 10m signing bonus. He has only made 2.5m so far and getting a check for 10m is hard to turn down. A 4yr/24m deal would still leave room for another contract in 3 years.

So you think we should have gave him CJ money so we could keep Murray
That was the option at the time and to say it wasn't is nothing but revisionist history and not based in fact

Any statement where you pretend to know what offer we made before to Dez and how much he came down or how much we went up during the negotiations is not based in fact.

So how do you know if Dez would have happily signed the same deal before? You don't.
Neither do I. The difference is a don't make statements and call them facts without any way to know that they are actually facts.

I agree. However we can't know that Murray would decline between last January and this September at a level that makes my point any less valid. Maybe he would get hurt? Maybe Dez will get hurt. Maybe anyone would. You see what Murray gave us in a contract year. For 10 million he would be giving us that again.

It's the cool thing to do on this board to downplay Murray because he is now an Eagle....but if he was a cowboy today you would have thread and thread get posted where people are ranking the leagues RB's and Murray would be in almost everyone's top 3 right now...just because he left doesn't mean he is suddenly a bum. He has been productive every year he has played football since high school. He isn't Adrian Peterson. But he isn't Trent Richardson either.

For 1 year and 10 million dollars (this year) Demarco Murray would be a gamble worth taking.

It's a fantasy to think months ago that dez would have taken this deal when at the time he was asking for a 100 mil deal
No, I don't know the exact numbers but to think both sides were that close that long ago and still let it drag out till the last minute is not logical
we are not talking about a couple weeks ago when that decision had to be made
It was over 4 months ago

We may have a Sophie's choice between Martin and Collins on the OL for a contract. I kinda hope it is as it means Collins is playing at a high level that makes it tough to decide.

Collins will have to chop a lot of wood to be considered as good as Martin already is.

Murray is a very good back who had a career year last year. That is all. Nothing more or less. He was too expensive to keep with the odds against him ever being that good again.

If Collins plays well he will likely get a new contract after two seasons. Martin would likely get the 5th year option with 4 seasons left from now for him to play out.

Where is the proof that he was asking for a 100 million deal? You speak of speculation as if it's a fact and then throw around other people's speculation as fantasy.

Dez didn't sign on some discount contract. The Cowboys said this was their toughest negotiation yet. I believe the Cowboys upped the money at the end to get him to sign. We can't know if he would have signed before at this amount. It didn't seem all that urgent to our FO for the last few months. It took a few Dez threats to get them to react. If they wanted to franchise Murray they could have handled the negotiations much more aggressively.

But again it's all just speculation. At least I can admit that much. Can you?

There is no solid concrete "I want $100M" quotes by Dez but the general feeling is he wanted that much only with a 7 or 8 year deal.

===========

Bryant doesn’t want the franchise tag. He wants a long-term deal worth upwards of $100 million with a large chunk of it guaranteed.
