Plus it's not 10m per year...it would be 10m for 1 year. A year when he was still in his prime. You pay a little more to avoid the long term commitment since it's well documented how RB's breakdown at 30.

Murray wasn't, isn't and never will be worth $10M for 1 year. Especially coming off the workload season last year. We spent several months debating this issue in here (with varing amounts per year) with that same conclusion every time.

Let's just see if he has the same success in Philadelphia before crowning him another Patterson.

It matters more what kind of success he would have here this year. It has nothing to do with crowning him another Peterson. We have almost all the pieces in place for a super bowl run. We let the most productive player on our team go to the Eagles when we could have locked him up for 1 more year at a cost that isn't much more (if any more ) than what we offered him. And why? Because we were not successful in signing Dez without the threat of a franchise tag.

Agreed.

DeMarco Hurray set franchise records for rushing attempts and yards last season and he still scored fewer touchdowns than Dez Almighty.

We paid the correct player.

It isn't and never was a debate about Dez vs Demarco. The option existed that we kept them both. Of course everyone would choose Dez over Demarco. Demarco would choose Dez over Demarco.

So you are telling me that you don't feel a back that rushes for 1845 Yards and catches 50 receptions is worth 10 million per year? How much production is worth 10 million?

Hate to say it but this is true.

Sorry, he was talking value, and that is core to a discussion of Crawford as well!!

A set-in-stone RB while being on the cusp of a SB run is value. We have a great team with a lot of questions in the backfield. The guys saying Murray could have got hurt this year should know the same is true with Randle or DMac, not because of workload, but because injuries happen. We were very fortunate in that dept last year offensively.

At present, I think the Dallas running back group can handle a deep playoff run.

A great passing game can keep opposing linebackers and corners fully occupied and on their heels if running is strong as well.

I really don't think that Murray is a true 1800 yard rusher outside of with Dallas. We shall see just how good the Philadelphia offensive line is, in comparison...but injury isn't the determining feature. Effectiveness of the passing game does more at leveling the playing field. There are many questions on the Eagle team at present.

They have a good defense, but probably also does Dallas now.

I can see both sides of the Murray debate, but for me its pretty simple.

There is a huge difference between a rb in a contract season vs. a disgruntled back playing under the franchise tag.

We moved on to a trio of backs with some ability playing for peanuts and all literally fighting for their NFL livelihood.

Im OK with that.

Guys the Demarco Murray milk was spilled months ago. While this discussion may remind you of what happened there, the team values OL and DL more and thank goodness for that. What they did with a RB has no bearing on how they view OL and DL.

Holding onto angst for that long has to give indigestion.

Tyron only makes $10m for the next several years. Scandrick and Witten are paid under market value. While Dez will probably be billed as setting a new market, he isn't paid close to what the top WR makes. Romo's $17m is looking very reasonable nowadays. Carr is an easy cap casualty in coming years. We're not as hamstrung as you think.

I also think that even if he blows up this year and has 15+ sacks, Hardy isn't going to make Suh/Houston money. His baggage is what it is.

If Hardy has 15+ sacks and improves his image, he'll get top dollars. Furthermore based on his age who wouldn't take the chance on Hardy in the aforementioned scenario.

He will get paid a lot but he will never be paid like Williams, Watt, Suh, and Houston. I don't think it's necessarily fair but unless the nations climate changes I don't see it happening. DV is going to be magnified for the foreseeable future as women's groups are all about it. I don't doubt their staying power either. 50 years ago, drunk driving wasn't seen as that bad of a things. They changed our culture that time too.

He seems like the type that doesn't value the dollar as the most important factor. If he likes it here he may choose comfortability over top money. A Dez type contract may be the ceiling with less guaranteed.

Just a guess though.

I don't think signing Hardy would be a problem for the cap.

By the time many young players are getting big money Romo will likely be gone. Zack Martin will not be a true free agent until after the 2018 season.

The Cowboys have been reducing dead money each year but are stil at 12M this year. That could be near zero in a year or two. Also, the NFL cap is continuing to increase.
