I have heard about that incident and it truly was a bad rap. There has been NOTHING else that shows any red flags at all. But of course someone will always try and use it to go after luxuries instead of what we really need.

It isn't going after luxuries and has nothing to do with need. If you're picking that high, you have to do your homework and he was originally charged.

I expect Jones to walk, so the team will have needs at RB as well as CB. WR will be a need as well. Both WRs are well into their 30s.

There's a whole lot more to why the charges were filed than you think.

Centre County's DA Ray Gricar simply disappeared. It was a national story for about a week, you may remember it. Madiera, an assistant DA, was appointed to replace him then elected while people were still looking for Gricar.

Madiera has a stick up his rear for Penn State football players. He charged one player that Gricar decided shouldn't be charged only to have a judge literally laugh it out of court.

What King did to get charged was insane. A player and his girlfriend were accosted on the street by several guys who then ran into an apartment party. The player then called a teammate to tell him what happened. King heard about what was happening, went there and stopped about a dozen players from entering the apartment. He went into the apartment to literally drag a few players out who had made it into the apartment.

Madeira charged everyone who could be identified as being there or admitted to being there (King as he gave a full statement to the police). Charges were either dropped or dismissed against all but two players who have had most of there charges thrown out.

I wouldn't consider a player stopping a potential brawl as a red flag.

He also already has his degree despite just starting his true junior season. That's impressive in my book.

Thanks, that is background that you don't typically find. Impressive about his degree.

Good job Stan on dropping the hammer on the poster trying to smear King.

I'm not trying to smear King. Grow up. You must be a Penn State fan or something. That's the only way I can really justify your overreaction.

If I was smearing him, I wouldn't mention the charges were dropped. He was charged which is a red flag that needs to be thoroughly investigated if you're picking him high.

well, OGT, why don't you show some evidence to back up your claim.

Junk, you were trying to smear him. And I thought you got the word that I am an Irish homer. Penn State means nothing to me. Nice try though.

Of what? What do you want me to show you?

I just look at all the guys coming out (or likely to come out), look at the experience they have, how they're being ranked by various "experts" and formulate my opinion from there.

Well, from most of the "various experts" I have seen have King VERY highly rated and top 10 or so potential.

To get a top CB, you are going to spend out the yang in FA. Much better to get one in the draft.

yea, the draft is a bargain hunters paradise.

The same Justin King that was charged with criminal trespass, a felony, disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor, and a summary charge of harassment in April '07?

Granted, charges were dropped and it was later claimed he was a peace maker in the incident, but its still a red flag.

How is that trying to smear him? He was charged. The charges were dropped. It is still a red flag that needs to be investigated.

Well, why'd you get so offended over a simple statement of fact. Is he your son?

Sadly many of the pubs don't seem to want to talk about Jrs.

Junk, you did not bother to check it out. You WANTED a red flag. So you could push your own agenda. Just admit it, you WILL feel better.

:laugh2:

Whatever gets you through your day. I looked at King because of his measureables and hype. I found that. I posted it. You got your panties in a bunch.

What agenda? Why would I have an agenda against Justin King? I just posted exactly what I found at NFLdraftscout.com. I'd love to hear your conspiracy theory.

People on this board continue to amaze me on a daily basis.

Oh hey, look I did a google search on Justin King. Look what I found, this is all it says about in an article praising him.

For more than a month in the offseason, King's playing status appeared to be in jeopardy.

He was charged with criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and harassment for his alleged role in an April 1 altercation at an off-campus apartment involving several players.

Prosecutors dropped the charges against King in early May for lack of evidence.

"I'm happy that's behind me and over with now," he said.

Weird. Again, its almost exactly what I posted. I can't believe this article would smear him in such a way.

I didn't think Junk was smearing him at all. He simply stated facts, that's why I tried to fill in the backstory. I'd be very leery also if I didn't know that.

King's season is pretty easy to determine. If he locks up and shuts down Manningham like he did Ginn and Meachem, he's a top 5 pick because he may be the fastest player in the draft.

Personally, I think you have that bass ackwards. I think you should formulate your opinion before looking at where experts have players ranked lest you simply co-opt their opinions as your own.

I don't watch enough tape to formulate my opinion beforehand. I have to look at what they're saying first, and then watch them throughout the season. I often adamantly disagree with the "experts," so I don't think bias is really much of a problem.

And I appreciate that. I'm not sure the details would be very easy to find unless you were pretty tuned into Penn State football (especially the level you provided).

This scare with Newman and the continuing concerns with Henry and Glenn underline the priority for the Boys: we need at least ONE more top CB.
King from Penn State, a JR, appears to be the best CB in college right now.
Right now he is considered a possible top 10 pick- if he has as good a season as many think he will have, he will be a top 5 pick.
We have to be realistic: Henry is over 30 and has been injured some both of his seasons. Glenn is truly Methuselah; sooner or later he has to start losing it. And so far none of our other CBs show much beyond being MAYBE a #3.
Now there is no arguement that our WRs are also old- BUT at the same time the bust factor for WRs early in the first is VERY high. You are better off going CB or RB that high in the first. When you look at what we NEED now and WILL NEED soon, CB pretty much takes the prize- as long as another Calvin does not show up in the WR ranks and from all that I have read there ain't going to be any like that next draft. And King appears to be at this time head and shoulders above any other CB. He has all the physical tools and appears to be a great kid as well. So to me its becoming a no brainer: use the cleveland pick and get a top CB!!!

I appreciate your anxiety about CB.
However, FA will offer a wealth of candidates.
And next draft is relatively light-years away, so a lot can happen until that time.
And, who knows, out of that net of CBs we have in camp, one might emerge as a project, as a keeper.
