None of our JAGS are going to "emerge" as anything beyond a 3rd CB at best.
FA- you DID notice how much Clements went for, didn't you?
We need to draft high a top CB.

This scare with Newman and the continuing concerns with Henry and Glenn underline the priority for the Boys: we need at least ONE more top CB.
King from Penn State, a JR, appears to be the best CB in college right now.
Right now he is considered a possible top 10 pick- if he has as good a season as many think he will have, he will be a top 5 pick.
We have to be realistic: Henry is over 30 and has been injured some both of his seasons. Glenn is truly Methuselah; sooner or later he has to start losing it. And so far none of our other CBs show much beyond being MAYBE a #3.
Now there is no arguement that our WRs are also old- BUT at the same time the bust factor for WRs early in the first is VERY high. You are better off going CB or RB that high in the first. When you look at what we NEED now and WILL NEED soon, CB pretty much takes the prize- as long as another Calvin does not show up in the WR ranks and from all that I have read there ain't going to be any like that next draft. And King appears to be at this time head and shoulders above any other CB. He has all the physical tools and appears to be a great kid as well. So to me its becoming a no brainer: use the cleveland pick and get a top CB!!!
I can dig that. Although I'm very intrigued w/ McFadden, I would sign JJ to a long-term deal if he plays well this season. Keep the JJ, MBIII, TT trio together and go into next year's draft looking for a CB & WR w/ our two 1st rounders.....

As a FS? I don't know about him as a CB though especially since his asking price will probably be high.....

Since 2002, we have drafted a db or a lb with our first pick, with the exception of 2004 when we traded out of the first.

Lots of money is tied up in our secondary as it is. Not that we won't need another WR, but we need to get better at finding talent in later rounds/free agency. I want to be able to draft linemen.

Good news... we have TWO first round picks so we can get DMac AND a CB.

Imagine that.

Rack, our Pick will not get us a TOP CB. We want one that is top 10 or better. That means using Clevelands pick.

There may not even be a CB taken in the top 10 next draft.

Next year is going to be a VERY VERY good year for corners.

I'd take a RB with Cleveland's pick and the CB with our own pick.

I think it's clear that CB will be a high priority in next season's draft.

Given how much a top CB costs in FA, I think we'll go the draft route rather than FA route.

I think our top needs for next season include, CB, NT (let's not forget that Fergy is getting up there in age either), WR, and possibly RB (if JJ isn't re-signed).

If we can get one of the four possible needs in FA, I think we can do the rest via the Draft.

not to mention 2 of our 3 starters are getting up there, and we don't have much in the way of starting caliber backups ready to replace them w/

I think Cason will be a better Pro CB than Chris McAllister from the same program. He is a legit top 10 prospect IMO. He's played in 34 career games, has 182 tackles, 18 passes broken up, and 10 interceptions. Teams throw away from him and at Wilrey Fontenot because Cason will make them pay.

If McFadden is gone Cason becomes one of the players I target with the Browns pick. If we get DMac, then WR and CB need to be our next two picks. Age, health, and time to develop seem to be dictating that to us.

I agree, if McFadden is gone, I think CB looks more of an attractive option in the top 5-10 than any other RB

The secondary...my favorite topic.

Nice to see others finally seeing the light on this subject.

We've had the same starting unit since 2005 [Newman, Henry, Glenn]

This year's draft was disappointing, as many expected the Cowboys to fix a big problem.

Maybe in 2008....

Sorry Silverbear, I originally brought Jammer up thinking he was a FA after the season, but actually prior to the '06 season he signed a contract extension that runs to '12. My mistake.

Good to see you still disagree with Ireland and the rest of the Cowboy brass.

Jammer is good, nothing more. He probably is about the only top 10 CB bust I can think of. And yes I call him a bust since he has never been more then good, and from where he was picked he SHOULD have been a lot better.

And to think there were Cowboys fans foaming at the mouth when we took Roy Williams instead. Roy has his limitations but, for as high as Jammer was drafted, Jammer has been a collosal disappointment.

I agree, after DMac, CB is number one. If we can't get DMac or Stanton, I would actually want to see us resign JJ.

We won't have that option. If we decide to keep Julius the decision will have to be made WAY before the draft starts.

There will be NO "Difference Makers" at CB in next year's draft.

But D-Mac IS a difference maker. If you have a chance to take a difference maker at a position of need (JuJo won't be here next year) then you do it.

Hopefully, Newman's injury will not be a lingering injury, but - if it should continue to bother him throughout the season, then CB will quickly move to, or near the top of our needs list. WR will also no doubt be another high priority position considering both Owens and Glenn's age. I'll be surprised if Julius Jones will still be a Cowboy next year, and if he goes elsewhere next year, then RB should move to the top of the needs list as well. Lots on here have been penciling in, or wanting to pencil in, McFadden as our top pick. I can see us taking either a RB, WR, and now in lieu of how quickly and how well Newman recovers, CB may also move to the top of our draft list. Let's hope that Newman can put this behind him, and that it doesn't continue to bother him throughout the year.

To me, in order to be a "bust", you have to have failed as a player...

Leonard Davis is not a "bust"... Quentin Jammer is not a "bust"... a "disappointment", perhaps, but not a "bust"...

As you said, he's not a Pro Bowler, but he's reasonably solid...

Just remember, you heard it here first-- the Boys will go after Jammer in the offseason... this from the guy who was touting Leonard Davis right from the start this past offseason... they'll have a need at that position, Jammer will be the best CB on the market, and Wade knows him... it just makes perfect sense...
