I hope the Giants overlook us as much as the author of that article is.

We've actually owned NY recently. I believe we had beaten them 5 or 6 times in a row until they finally got us at the end of last year when we were in full on downward spiral mode.

I think that Northeast summer heat is effecting their already delusional brains. Or maybe it's too much inner city smog.

If Romo were healthy and the Giants were starting a rookie qb, we would be saying the same thing

And we would be just as wrong as this writer is for making these assumptions.

Regardless of how someone feels about us starting a rookie QB for a few games, the Giants have shown and done nothing to be considered a contender for anything.

hahaha I can't wait for the game against the Giants.

Can this possibly get any easier for the Giants and Eli Manning?

Perhaps only if Kirk Cousins is injured and Hall of Famer Sonny Jurgensen comes out of retirement to play quarterback for Washington. He recently celebrated his 82nd birthday — but can still spin it.

The Cowboys lost Tony Romo for about two months, and on Saturday, eight days before the start of the season, the Eagles, now in a complete rebuild, traded starting quarterback Sam Bradford to the desperate Vikings, who are still in shock after losing Teddy Bridgewater for the season after a devastating non-contact knee injury in practice last week.

So, the season opens next week with the Giants in Dallas facing rookie fourth-round pick Dak Prescott, a summertime superstar against vanilla defenses. Mark Sanchez, after losing out in Denver to QBs who have never thrown a regular season pass — Trevor Siemian, who played one snap as a rookie (a kneel down), and rookie Paxton Lynch — was cut Saturday by the Super Bowl champs and expected to sign with the Cowboys as a backup.

Frankly who wouldnt be confident after spending a ton of money on offseason free agents? I prefer being the underdog anyway.

I understand that it's a QB driven league and that rookie QBs tend to struggle. But how many rookie QBs are operating behind a line like ours, throwing to a WR like Dez, throwing to a TE like Witten, and handing off to a guy like Morris? I'm not counting Zeke because he's just a rookie too, but realistically we all know he's likely (from the 7 carries we've seen virtually guaranteed) to be a big improvement over Morris.

That writer seems to have forgotten the facts that the Giant's oline is a dumpster fire and they have no running game. We also don't know if spending a lot of money will make their defense any better.

Generally rookie QB's who are starting are also doing so for teams who lack talent around the rookie QB.
He doesn't have to play like rookie Dan Marino to be effective enough to allow us to "contend" with a team who has been awful for 3 straight seasons.

This is why I just shake my head when I hear people apply those generalizations to Dak and the Cowboys.

This is not at all your normal "rookie QB being a starter week 1" situation. Dak has A LOT of foundation in this offense that he can and should lean on.

We can still win the division.

I think the writer was heaping pressure on the Giants and letting them know they have zero excuses this season. Anyway, if I was forced to choose between the two I would be taking the Deadskins in a heartbeat. The vanilla defenses that Dak tore apart also shut down that much hyped, much anticipated Giants offense, Eli, ODB, Cruz and all. Oh, and newsflash, that 200 million d-line will not make up for that bad O-line. You don't go from historically bad to great in one offseason no matter how much money you throw at it.

If we finish last, Garrett must be fired. We have a much better roster than the Eagles. We are equipped with an outstanding offense, Romoless or not. And he had a season long dress rehearsal for this exact scenario just last year. If you cannot lead your team through adversity, then you are of no use.

Can't blame them for thinking that. Prescott will have to prove himself in the regular season before anybody sees us as a threat.
I blame them. Anybody who falls for that vanilla defense line is a fool (with all do respect). People are stupid. Of course regular season is going to be different...but Dak"s success had nothing to do with vanilla, stawberry, or chocolate. Get out of here with "dat".

You're far more likely to have initial success with a rookie head coach than QB.

Sometimes we have to look at things intelligently. Rookie QBs generally struggle big time in the NFL.
Yeah...stupid rookie QBs.

Agreed. That dude was lights out when he played. Like off the charts good. Seattle was trying their best to stop him and couldn't. That is one of the best defenses in the NFL too. Vanilla or not defenses, Dak is legit. Cowboys are going to beat the hell out of the Giants week one and the DAK love will be insane.

He does have a better supporting cast on offense than most rookie QBs but he also has a dreadful defense. Probably worse than most rookies. So it's a wash, IMO. You're only objecting to this because it's the Cowboys.

So I wonder how long Dak has to play well for people to stop with the "Did well against vanilla defenses" argument which BTW, is the same defense that everyone else faced yet no one looked nearly as good.

The article only mentions Prescott once and that is to dismiss him. Typical NYP puff piece from the rag.

This is true and I surely wouldn't say the standard should be rookie QB's coming in and having great years but it has been done especially recently. Dalton, Carr, Bridgewater, RGIII, Luck, Russell, Cam, Winston......what most have in common is they are all high picks with the exception of Russ, Dalton, Carr and Bridgewater but it also goes to the point that most of those guys played well with bad teams as well. Its debatable how good or bad we are but this offense is built for a rookie QB to come in and have it easier than lets say a Wentz or a Goff.

I think he will. He appears to have his head on straight and acts extremely mature for his age. He doesn't play like a rookie. Teams are going to have a real hard time trying to stop Zeke behind this line too. When they try and stack the box, Dak will get some one on ones with Dez.

There is no doubt in my mind we are going to own the Giants and Dak will play well.
